33-1 And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. 神の人モーセは死ぬ前にイスラエルの人々を祝福した。祝福の言葉は次のとおりである。
33-2 And he said,Jehovah came from Sinai,And rose from Seir unto them;He shined forth from mount Paran,And he came from the ten thousands of holy ones:At his right hand was a fiery law for them. 「主はシナイからこられ、セイルからわれわれにむかってのぼられ、パランの山から光を放たれ、ちよろずの聖者の中からこられた。その右の手には燃える火があった。
33-3 Yea, he loveth the people;All his saints are in thy hand:And they sat down at thy feet;Every one shall receive of thy words. まことに主はその民を愛される。すべて主に聖別されたものは、み手のうちにある。彼らはあなたの足もとに座して、教をうける。
33-4 Moses commanded us a law,An inheritance for the assembly of Jacob. モーセはわれわれに律法を授けて、ヤコブの会衆の所有とさせた。
33-5 And he was king in Jeshurun,When the heads of the people were gathered,All the tribes of Israel together. 民のかしらたちが集まり、イスラエルの部族がみな集まった時、主はエシュルンのうちに王となられた」。
33-6 Let Reuben live, and not die;Nor let his men be few. 「ルベンは生きる、死にはしない。しかし、その人数は少なくなるであろう」。
33-7 And this is the blessing of Judah: and he said,Hear, Jehovah, the voice of Judah,And bring him in unto his people.With his hands he contended for himself;And thou shalt be a help against his adversaries. ユダについては、こう言った、「主よ、ユダの声を聞いて、彼をその民に導きかえしてください。み手をもって、彼のために戦ってください。彼を助けて、敵に当らせてください」。
33-8 And of Levi he said,Thy Thummim and thy Urim are with thy godly one,Whom thou didst prove at Massah,With whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah; レビについては言った、「あなたのトンミムをレビに与えてください。ウリムをあなたに仕える人に与えてください。かつてあなたはマッサで彼を試み、メリバの水のほとりで彼と争われた。
33-9 Who said of his father, and of his mother, I have not seen him;Neither did he acknowledge his brethren,Nor knew he his own children:For they have observed thy word,And keep thy covenant. 彼はその父、その母について言った、『わたしは彼らを顧みない』。彼は自分の兄弟をも認めず、自分の子供をも顧みなかった。彼らはあなたの言葉にしたがい、あなたの契約を守ったからである。
33-10 They shall teach Jacob thine ordinances,And Israel thy law:They shall put incense before thee,And whole burnt-offering upon thine altar. 彼らはあなたのおきてをヤコブに教え、あなたの律法をイスラエルに教え、薫香をあなたの前に供え、燔祭を祭壇の上にささげる。
33-11 Bless, Jehovah, his substance,And accept the work of his hands:Smite through the loins of them that rise up against him,And of them that hate him, that they rise not again. 主よ、彼の力を祝福し、彼の手のわざを喜び受けてください。彼に逆らう者と、彼を憎む者との腰を打ち砕いて、立ち上がることのできないようにしてください」。
33-12 Of Benjamin he said,The beloved of Jehovah shall dwell in safety by him;He covereth him all the day long,And he dwelleth between his shoulders. ベニヤミンについては言った、「主に愛される者、彼は安らかに主のそばにおり、主は終日、彼を守り、その肩の間にすまいを営まれるであろう」。
33-13 And of Joseph he said,Blessed of Jehovah be his land,For the precious things of heaven, for the dew,And for the deep that coucheth beneath, ヨセフについては言った、「どうぞ主が彼の地を祝福されるように。上なる天の賜物と露、下に横たわる淵の賜物、
33-14 And for the precious things of the fruits of the sun,And for the precious things of the growth of the moons, 日によって産する尊い賜物、月によって生ずる尊い賜物、
33-15 And for the chief things of the ancient mountains,And for the precious things of the everlasting hills, いにしえの山々の産する賜物、とこしえの丘の尊い賜物、
33-16 And for the precious things of the earth and the fulness thereof,And the good will of him that dwelt in the bush.Let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph,And upon the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren. 地とそれに満ちる尊い賜物、しばの中におられた者の恵みが、ヨセフの頭に臨み、その兄弟たちの君たる者の頭の頂にくだるように。
33-17 The firstling of his herd, majesty is his;And his horns are the horns of the wild-ox:With them he shall push the peoples all of them, even the ends of the earth:And they are the ten thousands of Ephraim,And they are the thousands of Manasseh. 彼の牛のういごは威厳があり、その角は野牛の角のよう、これをもって国々の民をことごとく突き倒し、地のはてにまで及ぶ。このような者はエフライムに幾万とあり、またこのような者はマナセに幾千とある」。
33-18 And of Zebulun he said,Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out;And, Issachar, in thy tents. ゼブルンについては言った、「ゼブルンよ、あなたは外に出て楽しみを得よ。イッサカルよ、あなたは天幕にいて楽しみを得よ。
33-19 They shall call the peoples unto the mountain;There shall they offer sacrifices of righteousness:For they shall suck the abundance of the seas,And the hidden treasures of the sand. 彼らは国々の民を山に招き、その所で正しい犠牲をささげるであろう。彼らは海の富を吸い、砂に隠れた宝を取るからである」。
33-20 And of Gad he said,Blessed be he that enlargeth Gad:He dwelleth as a lioness,And teareth the arm, yea, the crown of the head. ガドについては言った、「ガドを大きくする者は、ほむべきかな。ガドは、ししのように伏し、腕や頭の頂をかき裂くであろう。
33-21 And he provided the first part for himself,For there was the lawgiver’s portion reserved;And he came with the heads of the people;He executed the righteousness of Jehovah,And his ordinances with Israel. 彼は初穂の地を自分のために選んだ。そこには将軍の分も取り置かれていた。彼は民のかしらたちと共にきて、イスラエルと共に主の正義と審判とを行った」。
33-22 And of Dan he said,Dan is a lion’s whelp,That leapeth forth from Bashan. ダンについては言った、「ダンはししの子であって、バシャンからおどりでる」。
33-23 And of Naphtali he said,O Naphtali, satisfied with favor,And full with the blessing of Jehovah,Possess thou the west and the south. ナフタリについては言った、「ナフタリよ、あなたは恵みに満たされ、主の祝福に満ちて、湖とその南の地を所有する」。
33-24 And of Asher he said,Blessed be Asher with children;Let him be acceptable unto his brethren,And let him dip his foot in oil. アセルについては言った、「アセルは他の子らにまさって祝福される。彼はその兄弟たちに愛せられ、その足を油にひたすことができるように。
33-25 Thy bars shall be iron and brass;And as thy days, so shall thy strength be. あなたの貫の木は鉄と青銅、あなたの力はあなたの年と共に続くであろう」。
33-26 There is none like unto God, O Jeshurun,Who rideth upon the heavens for thy help,And in his excellency on the skies. 「エシュルンよ、神に並ぶ者はほかにない。あなたを助けるために天に乗り、威光をもって空を通られる。
33-27 The eternal God is thy dwelling-place,And underneath are the everlasting arms.And he thrust out the enemy from before thee,And said, Destroy. とこしえにいます神はあなたのすみかであり、下には永遠の腕がある。敵をあなたの前から追い払って、『滅ぼせ』と言われた。
33-28 And Israel dwelleth in safety,In a land of grain and new wine;Yea, his heavens drop down dew. イスラエルは安らかに住み、ヤコブの泉は穀物とぶどう酒の地に、ひとりいるであろう。また天は露をくだすであろう。
33-29 Happy art thou, O Israel:Who is like unto thee, a people saved by Jehovah,The shield of thy help,And the sword of thy excellency!And thine enemies shall submit themselves unto thee;And thou shalt tread upon their high places. イスラエルよ、あなたはしあわせである。だれがあなたのように、主に救われた民があるであろうか。主はあなたを助ける盾、あなたの威光のつるぎ、あなたの敵はあなたにへつらい服し、あなたは彼らの高き所を踏み進むであろう」。
