8-2 And thou shalt remember all the way which Jehovah thy God hath led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or not. あなたの神、主がこの四十年の間、荒野であなたを導かれたそのすべての道を覚えなければならない。それはあなたを苦しめて、あなたを試み、あなたの心のうちを知り、あなたがその命令を守るか、どうかを知るためであった。
8-3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by everything that proceedeth out of the mouth of Jehovah doth man live. それで主はあなたを苦しめ、あなたを飢えさせ、あなたも知らず、あなたの先祖たちも知らなかったマナをもって、あなたを養われた。人はパンだけでは生きず、人は主の口から出るすべてのことばによって生きることをあなたに知らせるためであった。
8-4 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years. この四十年の間、あなたの着物はすり切れず、あなたの足は、はれなかった。
8-5 And thou shalt consider in thy heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so Jehovah thy God chasteneth thee. あなたはまた人がその子を訓練するように、あなたの神、主もあなたを訓練されることを心にとめなければならない。
8-6 And thou shalt keep the commandments of Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. あなたの神、主の命令を守り、その道に歩んで、彼を恐れなければならない。
8-7 For Jehovah thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills; それはあなたの神、主があなたを良い地に導き入れられるからである。そこは谷にも山にもわき出る水の流れ、泉、および淵のある地、
8-8 a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig-trees and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey; 小麦、大麦、ぶどう、いちじく及びざくろのある地、油のオリブの木、および蜜のある地、
8-9 a land wherein thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig copper. 9あなたが食べる食物に欠けることなく、なんの乏しいこともない地である。その地の石は鉄であって、その山からは銅を掘り取ることができる。
8-10 And thou shalt eat and be full, and thou shalt bless Jehovah thy God for the good land which he hath given thee. あなたは食べて飽き、あなたの神、主がその良い地を賜わったことを感謝するであろう。
8-11 Beware lest thou forget Jehovah thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: あなたは、きょう、わたしが命じる主の命令と、おきてと、定めとを守らず、あなたの神、主を忘れることのないように慎まなければならない。
8-12 lest, when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; あなたは食べて飽き、麗しい家を建てて住み、
8-13 and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; また牛や羊がふえ、金銀が増し、持ち物がみな増し加わるとき、
8-14 then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget Jehovah thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; おそらく心にたかぶり、あなたの神、主を忘れるであろう。主はあなたをエジプトの地、奴隷の家から導き出し、
8-15 who led thee through the great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint; あなたを導いて、あの大きな恐ろしい荒野、すなわち火のへびや、さそりがいて、水のない、かわいた地を通り、あなたのために堅い岩から水を出し、
8-16 who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not; that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end: 先祖たちも知らなかったマナを荒野であなたに食べさせられた。それはあなたを苦しめ、あなたを試みて、ついにはあなたをさいわいにするためであった。
8-17 and lest thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand hath gotten me this wealth. あなたは心のうちに『自分の力と自分の手の働きで、わたしはこの富を得た』と言ってはならない。
8-18 But thou shalt remember Jehovah thy God, for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as at this day. あなたはあなたの神、主を覚えなければならない。主はあなたの先祖たちに誓われた契約を今日のように行うために、あなたに富を得る力を与えられるからである。
8-19 And it shall be, if thou shalt forget Jehovah thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish. もしあなたの神、主を忘れて他の神々に従い、これに仕え、これを拝むならば、――わたしは、きょう、あなたがたに警告する。――あなたがたはきっと滅びるであろう。
8-20 As the nations that Jehovah maketh to perish before you, so shall ye perish; because ye would not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah your God. 主があなたがたの前から滅ぼし去られる国々の民のように、あなたがたも滅びるであろう。あなたがたの神、主の声に従わないからである。
