| 10-1 |
Now while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there was gathered together unto him out of Israel a very great assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept very sore. |
エズラが神の宮の前に泣き伏して祈り、かつざんげしていた時、男、女および子供の大いなる群集がイスラエルのうちから彼のもとに集まってきた。民はいたく泣き悲しんだ。 |

And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land: yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing. |
時にエラムの子孫のうちのエヒエルの子シカニヤが、エズラに告げて言った、「われわれは神にむかって罪を犯し、この地の民から異邦の女をめとりました。しかし、このことについてはイスラエルに、今なお望みがあります。 |

Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law. |
それでわれわれはわが主の教と、われわれの神の命令におののく人々の教とに従って、これらの妻ならびにその子供たちを、ことごとく追い出すという契約を、われわれの神に立てましょう。そして律法に従ってこれを行いましょう。 |

Arise; for the matter belongeth unto thee, and we are with thee: be of good courage, and do it. |
立ちあがってください、この事はあなたの仕事です。われわれはあなたを助けます。心を強くしてこれを行いなさい」。 |
| 10-5 |
Then arose Ezra, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. So they sware. |
エズラは立って、おもだった祭司、レビびとおよびすべてのイスラエルびとに、この言葉のように行うことを誓わせたので、彼らは誓った。 |

Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water; for he mourned because of the trespass of them of the captivity. |
エズラは神の宮の前から出て、エリアシブの子ヨハナンのへやにはいったが、そこへ行っても彼はパンも食べず、水も飲まずに夜を過ごした。これは彼が、捕囚から帰った人々のとがを嘆いたからである。 |
| 10-7 |
And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem; |
そしてユダおよびエルサレムにあまねく布告を出し、捕囚から帰ったすべての者に告げて、エルサレムに集まるべき事と、 |
| 10-8 |
and that whosoever came not within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the assembly of the captivity. |
つかさおよび長老たちのさとしに従って、三日のうちにこない者はだれでもその財産はことごとく没収され、その人自身は捕われ人の会から破門されると言った。 |

Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within the three days; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month: and all the people sat in the broad place before the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain. |
そこでユダとベニヤミンの人々は皆三日のうちにエルサレムに集まった。これは九月の二十日であった。すべての民は神の宮の前の広場に座して、このことのため、また大雨のために震えおののいていた。 |
| 10-10 |
And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have trespassed, and have married foreign women, to increase the guilt of Israel. |
時に祭司エズラは立って彼らに言った、「あなたがたは罪を犯し、異邦の女をめとって、イスラエルのとがを増した。 |
| 10-11 |
Now therefore make confession unto Jehovah, the God of your fathers, and do his pleasure; and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign women. |
それで今、あなたがたの先祖の神、主にざんげして、そのみ旨を行いなさい。あなたがたはこの地の民および異邦の女と離れなさい」。 |
| 10-12 |
Then all the assembly answered and said with a loud voice, As thou hast said concerning us, so must we do. |
すると会衆は皆大声をあげて答えた、「あなたの言われたとおり、われわれは必ず行います。 |
| 10-13 |
But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without: neither is this a work of one day or two; for we have greatly transgressed in this matter. |
しかし民は多く、また大雨の季節ですから、外に立っていることはできません。またこれは一日やふつかの仕事ではありません。われわれはこの事について大いに罪を犯したからです。 |
| 10-14 |
Let now our princes be appointed for all the assembly, and let all them that are in our cities that have married foreign women come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God be turned from us, until this matter be despatched. |
それでどうぞ、われわれのつかさたちは全会衆のために立ってください。われわれの町の内に、もし異邦の女をめとった者があるならば、みな定めの時にこさせなさい。またおのおのの町の長老および裁判人も、それと一緒にこさせなさい。そうすればこの事によるわれわれの神の激しい怒りは、ついにわれわれを離れるでしょう」。 |

Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah stood up against this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them. |
ところがアサヘルの子ヨナタンおよびテクワの子ヤハジアはこれに反対した。そしてメシュラムおよびレビびとシャベタイは彼らを支持した。 |
| 10-16 |
And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain heads of fathers’ houses, after their fathers’ houses, and all of them by their names, were set apart; and they sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter. |
そこで捕囚から帰って来た人々はこのように行った。すなわち祭司エズラは、氏族の長たちをその氏族にしたがい、おのおのその名をさして選んだ。彼らは十月の一日から座してこの事を調べ、 |
| 10-17 |
And they made an end with all the men that had married foreign women by the first day of the first month. |
正月の一日になって、異邦の女をめとった人々をことごとく調べ終った。 |
| 10-18 |
And among the sons of the priests there were found that had married foreign women: namely, of the sons of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and his brethren, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah. |
祭司の子孫のうちで異邦の女をめとった事のあらわれた者は、ヨザダクの子エシュアの子ら、およびその兄弟たちのうちではマアセヤ、エリエゼル、ヤリブ、ゲダリヤであった。 |

And they gave their hand that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their guilt. |
彼らはその妻を離縁しようという誓いをなし、すでに罪を犯したというので、そのとがのために雄羊一頭をささげた。 |

And of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah. |
インメルの子らのうちではハナニおよびゼバデヤ。 |

And of the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah. |
ハリムの子らのうちではマアセヤ、エリヤ、シマヤ、エヒエル、ウジヤ。 |
| 10-22 |
And of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah. |
パシュルの子らのうちではエリオエナイ、マアセヤ、イシマエル、ネタンエル、ヨザバデ、エラサ。 |
| 10-23 |
And of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah (the same is Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer. |
レビびとのうちではヨザバテ、シメイ、ケラヤ（すなわちケリタ）、ペタヒヤ、ユダ、エリエゼル。 |

And of the singers: Eliashib. And of the porters: Shallum, and Telem, and Uri. |
歌うたう者のうちではエリアシブ。門衛のうちではシャルム、テレム、ウリ。 |

And of Israel: Of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, and Izziah, and Malchijah, and Mijamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah. |
イスラエルのうち、パロシの子らのうちではラミヤ、エジア、マルキヤ、ミヤミン、エレアザル、ハシャビヤ、ベナヤ。 |

And of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah. |
エラムの子らのうちではマッタニヤ、ゼカリヤ、エヒエル、アブデ、エレモテ、エリヤ。 |

And of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza. |
ザットの子らのうちではエリオエナイ、エリアシブ、マッタニヤ、エレモテ、ザバデ、アジザ。 |
| 10-28 |
And of the sons of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai. |

And of the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, Jeremoth. |

Of the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Iddo, and Joel, Benaiah. |

| 10-44 |
All these had taken foreign wives; and some of them had wives by whom they had children. |
これらの者は皆異邦の女をめとった者である。彼らはその女たちをその子供と共に離縁した。 |
