And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem. |
こうしてイスラエルの人々はその町々に住んでいたが、七月になって、民はひとりのようにエルサレムに集まった。 |

Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt-offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God. |
そこでヨザダクの子エシュアとその仲間の祭司たち、およびシャルテルの子ゼルバベルとその兄弟たちは立って、イスラエルの神の祭壇を築いた。これは神の人モーセの律法にしるされたところに従って、その上に燔祭をささげるためであった。 |

And they set the altar upon its base; for fear was upon them because of the peoples of the countries: and they offered burnt-offerings thereon unto Jehovah, even burnt-offerings morning and evening. |
彼らは国々の民を恐れていたので、祭壇をもとの所に設けた。そしてその上で燔祭を主にささげ、朝夕それをささげた。 |

And they kept the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt-offerings by number, according to the ordinance, as the duty of every day required; |
また、しるされたところに従って仮庵の祭を行い、おきてに従って、毎日ささぐべき数のとおりに、日々の燔祭をささげた。 |

and afterward the continual burnt-offering, and the offerings of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of Jehovah that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a freewill-offering unto Jehovah. |
そしてその後は常燔祭、新月と主のすべて定められた祭とにささげる供え物および各自が主にささげる真心よりの供え物をささげた。 |

From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt-offerings unto Jehovah: but the foundation of the temple of Jehovah was not yet laid. |
すなわち七月一日から燔祭を主にささげることを始めたが、主の宮の基礎はまだすえられてなかった。 |

They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and food, and drink, and oil, unto them of Sidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar-trees from Lebanon to the sea, unto Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia. |
そこで石工と木工に金を渡し、またシドンとツロの人々に食い物、飲み物および油を与えて、ペルシャ王クロスから得た許可に従って、レバノンからヨッパの海に香柏を運ばせた。 |

Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem, and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to have the oversight of the work of the house of Jehovah. |
さてエルサレムの神の宮に帰った次の年の二月に、シャルテルの子ゼルバベルとヨザダクの子エシュアはその兄弟である他の祭司、レビびとおよび捕囚からエルサレムに帰って来たすべての人々と共に工事を始め、二十歳以上のレビびとを立てて、主の宮の工事を監督させた。 |

Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to have the oversight of the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites. |
そこでユダの子孫であるエシュアとその子らおよびその兄弟、カデミエルとその子らは共に立って、神の宮で工事をなす者を監督した。ヘナダデの子らおよびレビびとの子らと、その兄弟たちもまた一緒であった。 |

And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of Jehovah, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise Jehovah, after the order of David king of Israel. |
こうして建築者が主の宮の基礎をすえた時、祭司たちは礼服をつけてラッパをとり、アサフの子らであるレビびとはシンバルをとり、イスラエルの王ダビデの指令に従って主をさんびした。 |

And they sang one to another in praising and giving thanks unto Jehovah, saying, For he is good, for his lovingkindness endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised Jehovah, because the foundation of the house of Jehovah was laid. |
彼らは互に歌いあって主をほめ、かつ感謝し、「主はめぐみ深く、そのいつくしみはとこしえにイスラエルに絶えることがない」と言った。そして民はみな主をさんびするとき、大声をあげて叫んだ。主の宮の基礎がすえられたからである。 |

But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers’ houses , the old men that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy: |
しかし祭司、レビびと、氏族の長である多くの人々のうちに、もとの宮を見た老人たちがあったが、今この宮の基礎のすえられるのを見た時、大声をあげて泣いた。また喜びのために声をあげて叫ぶ者も多かった。 |
| 3-13 |
so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people; for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off. |
それで、人々は民の喜び叫ぶ声と、民の泣く声とを聞きわけることができなかった。民が大声に叫んだので、その声が遠くまで聞えたからである。 |
