Then Darius the king made a decree, and search was made in the house of the archives, where the treasures were laid up in Babylon. |
そこでダリヨス王は命を下して、バビロンのうちで、古文書をおさめてある書庫を調べさせたところ、 |

And there was found at Achmetha, in the palace that is in the province of Media, a roll, and therein was thus written for a record: |

In the first year of Cyrus the king, Cyrus the king made a decree: Concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, let the house be builded, the place where they offer sacrifices, and let the foundations thereof be strongly laid; the height thereof threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof threescore cubits; |
クロス王の元年にクロス王は命を下した、『エルサレムにある神の宮については、犠牲をささげ、燔祭を供える所の宮を建て、その宮の高さを六十キュビトにし、その幅を六十キュビトにせよ。 |

with three courses of great stones, and a course of new timber: and let the expenses be given out of the king’s house. |
大いなる石の層を三段にし、木の層を一段にせよ。その費用は王の家から与えられる。 |

And also let the gold and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took forth out of the temple which is at Jerusalem, and brought unto Babylon, be restored, and brought again unto the temple which is at Jerusalem, every one to its place; and thou shalt put them in the house of God. |
またネブカデネザルが、エルサレムの宮からバビロンに移した神の宮の金銀の器物は、これをかえして、エルサレムにある宮のもとの所に持って行き、これを神の宮に納めよ』」。 |

Now therefore, Tattenai, governor beyond the River, Shethar-bozenai, and your companions the Apharsachites, who are beyond the River, be ye far from thence: |
「それで川向こうの州の知事タテナイおよびセタル・ボズナイとその同僚である川向こうの州の知事たちよ、あなたがたはこれに遠ざかり、 |

let the work of this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build this house of God in its place. |
神のこの宮の工事を彼らに任せ、ユダヤ人の知事とユダヤ人の長老たちに、神のこの宮をもとの所に建てさせよ。 |

Moreover I make a decree what ye shall do to these elders of the Jews for the building of this house of God: that of the king’s goods, even of the tribute beyond the River, expenses be given with all diligence unto these men, that they be not hindered. |
わたしはまた命を下し、神のこの宮を建てることについて、あなたがたがこれらのユダヤ人の長老たちになすべき事を示す。王の財産、すなわち川向こうの州から納めるみつぎの中から、その費用をじゅうぶんそれらの人々に与えて、その工事を滞らないようにせよ。 |

And that which they have need of, both young bullocks, and rams, and lambs, for burnt-offerings to the God of heaven; also wheat, salt, wine, and oil, according to the word of the priests that are at Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day without fail; |
またその必要とするもの、すなわち天の神にささげる燔祭の子牛、雄羊および小羊ならびに麦、塩、酒、油などエルサレムにいる祭司たちの求めにしたがって、日々怠りなく彼らに与え、 |

that they may offer sacrifices of sweet savor unto the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons. |
彼らにこうばしい犠牲を天の神にささげさせ、王と王子たちの長寿を祈らせよ。 |

Also I have made a decree, that whosoever shall alter this word, let a beam be pulled out from his house, and let him be lifted up and fastened thereon; and let his house be made a dunghill for this: |
わたしはまた命を下す。だれでもこの命ずる所を改める者があるならば、その家の梁は抜き取られ、彼はその上にくぎづけにされ、その家はまた、これがために汚物の山とされるであろう。 |

and the God that hath caused his name to dwell there overthrow all kings and peoples that shall put forth their hand to alter the same, to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I Darius have made a decree; let it be done with all diligence. |
これを改めようとする者、あるいはエルサレムにある神のこの宮を滅ぼそうとして手を出す王あるいは民は、かしこにその名をとどめられる神よ、願わくはこれを倒されるように。われダリヨスは命を下す。心してこれを行え」。 |

Then Tattenai, the governor beyond the River, Shethar-bozenai, and their companions, because that Darius the king had sent, did accordingly with all diligence. |
ダリヨス王がこう言い送ったので、川向こうの州の知事タテナイおよびセタル・ボズナイとその同僚たちは心してこれを行った。 |

And the elders of the Jews builded and prospered, through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they builded and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the decree of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia. |
そしてユダヤ人の長老たちは、預言者ハガイおよびイドの子ゼカリヤの預言によって建て、これをなし遂げた。彼らはイスラエルの神の命令により、またクロス、ダリヨスおよびペルシャ王アルタシャスタの命によって、これを建て終った。 |

And this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king. |
この宮はダリヨス王の治世の六年アダルの月の三日に完成した。 |
| 6-16 |
And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy. |
そこでイスラエルの人々、祭司たち、レビびとおよびその他の捕囚から帰った人々は、喜んで神のこの宮の奉献式を行った。 |
| 6-17 |
And they offered at the dedication of this house of God a hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and for a sin-offering for all Israel, twelve he-goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel. |
すなわち神のこの宮の奉献式において、雄牛一百頭、雄羊二百頭、小羊四百頭をささげ、またイスラエルの部族の数にしたがって、雄やぎ十二頭をささげて、すべてのイスラエルびとのための罪祭とした。 |

And they set the priests in their divisions, and the Levites in their courses, for the service of God, which is at Jerusalem; as it is written in the book of Moses. |
またモーセの書にしるされてあるように祭司を組別により、レビびとを班別によって立て、エルサレムで神に仕えさせた。 |
| 6-19 |
And the children of the captivity kept the passover upon the fourteenth day of the first month. |
こうして捕囚から帰って来た人々は、正月の十四日に過越の祭を行った。 |

For the priests and the Levites had purified themselves together; all of them were pure: and they killed the passover for all the children of the captivity, and for their brethren the priests, and for themselves. |
すなわち祭司、レビびとたちは共に身を清めて皆清くなり、すべて捕囚から帰って来た人々のため、その兄弟である祭司たちのため、また彼ら自身のために過越の小羊をほふった。 |

And the children of Israel that were come again out of the captivity, and all such as had separated themselves unto them from the filthiness of the nations of the land, to seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, did eat, |
そして捕囚から帰って来たイスラエルの人々、およびその地の異邦人の汚れを捨てて彼らに連なり、イスラエルの神、主を拝しようとする者はすべてこれを食べ、 |

and kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy: for Jehovah had made them joyful, and had turned the heart of the king of Assyria unto them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel. |
喜んで七日の間、種入れぬパンの祭を行った。これは主が彼らを喜ばせ、またアッスリヤの王の心を彼らに向かわせ、彼にイスラエルの神にいます神の宮の工事を助けさせられたからである。 |
