| 9-1 |
Now when these things were done, the princes drew near unto me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. |
これらの事がなされた後、つかさたちは、わたしのもとに来て言った、「イスラエルの民、祭司およびレビびとは諸国の民と離れないで、カナンびと、ヘテびと、ペリジびと、エブスびと、アンモンびと、モアブびと、エジプトびと、アモリびとなどの憎むべき事を行いました。 |

For they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the peoples of the lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass. |
すなわち、彼らの娘たちをみずからめとり、またそのむすこたちにめとったので、聖なる種が諸国の民とまじりました。そしてつかさたる者、長たる者が先だって、このとがを犯しました」。 |

And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my robe, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down confounded. |
わたしはこの事を聞いた時、着物と上着とを裂き、髪の毛とひげを抜き、驚きあきれてすわった。 |
| 9-4 |
Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the trespass of them of the captivity; and I sat confounded until the evening oblation. |
イスラエルの神の言葉におののく者は皆、捕囚から帰って来た人々のとがのゆえに、わたしのもとに集まったが、わたしは夕の供え物の時まで、驚きあきれてすわった。 |

And at the evening oblation I arose up from my humiliation, even with my garment and my robe rent; and I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto Jehovah my God; |
夕の供え物の時になって、わたしは断食から立ちあがり、着物と上着を裂いたまま、ひざをかがめて、わが神、主にむかって手をさし伸べて、 |

and I said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God; for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our guiltiness is grown up unto the heavens. |
言った、「わが神よ、わたしはあなたにむかって顔を上げるのを恥じて、赤面します。われわれの不義は積って頭よりも高くなり、われわれのとがは重なって天に達したからです。 |

Since the days of our fathers we have been exceeding guilty unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to plunder, and to confusion of face, as it is this day. |
われわれの先祖の日から今日まで、われわれは大いなるとがを負い、われわれの不義によって、われわれとわれわれの王たち、および祭司たちは国々の王たちの手にわたされ、つるぎにかけられ、捕え行かれ、かすめられ、恥をこうむりました。今日のとおりです。 |

And now for a little moment grace hath been showed from Jehovah our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage. |
ところがいま、われわれの神、主は、しばし恵みを施して、のがれ残るべき者をわれわれのうちにおき、その聖所のうちに確かなよりどころを与え、こうしてわれわれの神はわれわれの目を明らかにし、われわれをその奴隷のうちにあって、少しく生き返らせられました。 |

For we are bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended lovingkindness unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the ruins thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem. |
われわれは奴隷の身でありますが、その奴隷たる時にも神はわれわれを見捨てられず、かえってペルシャ王たちの目の前でいつくしみを施して、われわれを生き返らせ、われわれの神の宮を建てさせ、その破壊をつくろわせ、ユダとエルサレムでわれわれに保護を与えられました。 |

And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments, |
われわれの神よ、この後、何を言うことができましょう。われわれは、あなたの戒めを捨てたからです。 |

which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land through the uncleanness of the peoples of the lands, through their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their filthiness: |
あなたはかつて、あなたのしもべである預言者たちによって命じて仰せられました、『おまえたちが行って獲ようとする地は、各地の民の汚れにより、その憎むべきわざによって汚れた地で、この果から、かの果まで、その汚れに満ちている。 |
| 9-12 |
now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their prosperity for ever; that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever. |
それでおまえたちの娘を、彼らのむすこに与えてはならない。彼らの娘を、おまえたちのむすこにめとってはならない。また永久に彼らの平安をも福祉をも求めてはならない。そうすればおまえたちは強くなり、その地の良き物を食べ、これを永久におまえたちの子孫に伝えて嗣業とさせることができる』と。 |

And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great guilt, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such a remnant, |
われわれの悪い行いにより、大いなるとがによって、これらすべてのことが、すでにわれわれに臨みましたが、われわれの神なるあなたは、われわれの不義よりも軽い罰をくだして、このように残りの者を与えてくださったのを見ながら、 |

shall we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the peoples that do these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant, nor any to escape? |
われわれは再びあなたの命令を破って、これらの憎むべきわざを行う民と縁を結んでよいでしょうか。あなたはわれわれを怒って、ついに滅ぼし尽し、残る者も、のがれる者もないようにされるのではないでしょうか。 |
| 9-15 |
O Jehovah, the God of Israel, thou art righteous; for we are left a remnant that is escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our guiltiness; for none can stand before thee because of this. |
ああ、イスラエルの神、主よ、あなたは正しくいらせられます。われわれはのがれて残ること今日のとおりです。われわれは、とがをもってあなたの前にあります。それゆえだれもあなたの前に立つことはできません」。 |
