37-1 And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Jehovah. ヒゼキヤ王はこれを聞いて、衣を裂き、荒布を身にまとって主の宮に入り、
37-2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz. 宮内卿エリアキムと書記官セブナおよび祭司のうちの年長者たちに荒布をまとわせて、アモツの子預言者イザヤのもとへつかわした。
37-3 And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of contumely; for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth. 彼らはイザヤに言った、「ヒゼキヤはこう言います、『きょうは悩みと責めと、はずかしめの日です。胎児がまさに生れようとして、これを産み出す力がないのです。
37-4 It may be Jehovah thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Jehovah thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left. あなたの神、主は、あるいはラブシャケのもろもろの言葉を聞かれたかもしれません。彼はその主君アッスリヤの王につかわされて、生ける神をそしりました。あなたの神、主はその言葉を聞いて、あるいは責められるかもしれません。それゆえ、この残っている者のために祈をささげてください』」。
37-5 So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah. ヒゼキヤ王の家来たちがイザヤのもとに来たとき、
37-6 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith Jehovah, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. イザヤは彼らに言った、「あなたがたの主君にこう言いなさい、『主はこう仰せられる、アッスリヤの王のしもべらが、わたしをそしった言葉を聞いて恐れるには及ばない。
37-7 Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he shall hear tidings, and shall return unto his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land. 見よ、わたしは一つの霊を彼のうちに送って、一つのうわさを聞かせ、彼を自分の国へ帰らせて、その国でつるぎに倒れさせる』」。
37-8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish. ラブシャケは引き返して、アッスリヤの王がリブナを攻めているところへ行った。彼は王がラキシを去ったことを聞いたからである。
37-9 And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come out to fight against thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, この時、アッスリヤの王はエチオピヤの王テルハカについて、「彼はあなたと戦うために出てきた」と人々が言うのを聞いた。彼はこのことを聞いて、使者をヒゼキヤにつかわそうとして言った、
37-10 Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. 「ユダの王ヒゼキヤにこう言いなさい、『あなたは、エルサレムはアッスリヤの王の手に陥ることはない、と言うあなたの信頼する神に欺かれてはならない。
37-11 Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered? あなたはアッスリヤの王たちが、国々にしたこと、彼らを全く滅ぼしたことを聞いている。どうしてあなたは救われることができようか。
37-12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden that were in Telassar? わたしの先祖たちはゴザン、ハラン、レゼフおよびテラサルにいたエデンの人々を滅ぼしたが、その国々の神々は彼らを救ったか。
37-13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? ハマテの王、アルパデの王、セパルワイムの町の王、ヘナの王およびイワの王はどこにいるか』」。
37-14 And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up unto the house of Jehovah, and spread it before Jehovah. ヒゼキヤは使者の手から手紙を受け取ってそれを読み、主の宮にのぼっていって、主の前にそれをひろげ、
37-15 And Hezekiah prayed unto Jehovah, saying, 主に祈って言った、
37-16 O Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, that sittest above the cherubim, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. 「ケルビムの上に座しておられるイスラエルの神、万軍の主よ、地のすべての国のうちで、ただあなただけが神でいらせられます。あなたは天と地を造られました。
37-17 Incline thine ear, O Jehovah, and hear; open thine eyes, O Jehovah, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, who hath sent to defy the living God. 主よ、耳を傾けて聞いてください。主よ、目を開いて見てください。セナケリブが生ける神をそしるために書き送った言葉を聞いてください。
37-18 Of a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the countries, and their land, 主よ、まことにアッスリヤの王たちは、もろもろの民とその国々を滅ぼし、
37-19 and have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them. またその神々を火に投げ入れました。それらは神ではなく、人の手の造ったもので、木や石だから滅ぼされたのです。
37-20 Now therefore, O Jehovah our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art Jehovah, even thou only. 今われわれの神、主よ、どうぞ、われわれを彼の手から救い出してください。そうすれば地の国々は皆あなただけが主でいらせられることを知るようになるでしょう」。
37-21 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, その時アモツの子イザヤは人をつかわしてヒゼキヤに言った、「イスラエルの神、主はこう言われる、あなたはアッスリヤの王セナケリブについてわたしに祈ったゆえ、
37-22 this is the word which Jehovah hath spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion hath despised thee and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee. 主が彼について語られた言葉はこうである、『処女であるシオンの娘はあなたを侮り、あなたをあざける。エルサレムの娘は、あなたのうしろで頭を振る。
37-23 Whom hast thou defied and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel. あなたはだれをそしり、だれをののしったのか。あなたはだれにむかって声をあげ、目を高くあげたのか。イスラエルの聖者にむかってだ。
37-24 By thy servants hast thou defied the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice fir-trees thereof; and I will enter into its farthest height, the forest of its fruitful field; あなたは、そのしもべらによって主をそしって言った、「わたしは多くの戦車を率いて山々の頂にのぼり、レバノンの奥へ行き、たけの高い香柏と、最も良いいとすぎを切り倒し、またその果の高地へ行き、その密林にはいった。
37-25 I have digged and drunk water, and with the sole of my feet will I dry up all the rivers of Egypt. わたしは井戸を掘って水を飲んだ。わたしは足の裏でエジプトのすべての川を踏みからした」。
37-26 Hast thou not heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? now have I brought it to pass, that it should be thine to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps. あなたは聞かなかったか、昔わたしがそれを定めたことを。堅固な町々を、あなたがこわして荒塚とすることも、いにしえの日から、わたしが計画して今それをきたらせたのだ。
37-27 Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as a field of grain before it is grown up. そのうちに住む民は力弱く、おののき恥をいだいて、野の草のように、青菜のようになり、育たずに枯れる屋根の草のようになった。
37-28 But I know thy sitting down, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy raging against me. わたしは、あなたの座すること、出入りすること、また、わたしにむかって怒り叫んだことをも知っている。
37-29 Because of thy raging against me, and because thine arrogancy is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest. あなたが、わたしにむかって怒り叫んだことと、あなたの高慢な言葉とがわたしの耳にはいったゆえ、わたしは、あなたの鼻に輪をつけ、あなたの口にくつわをはめて、あなたを、もと来た道へ引きもどす』。
37-30 nd this shall be the sign unto thee: ye shall eat this year that which groweth of itself, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof. あなたに与えるしるしはこれである。すなわち、ことしは落ち穂から生えた物を食べ、二年目には、またその落ち穂から生えた物を食べ、三年目には種をまき、刈り入れ、ぶどう畑を作ってその実を食べる。
37-31 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward. ユダの家の、のがれて残る者は再び下に根を張り、上に実を結ぶ。
37-32 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and out of mount Zion they that shall escape. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this. すなわち残る者はエルサレムから出、のがれる物はシオンの山から出る。万軍の主の熱心がこれをなし遂げられる。
37-33 Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come unto this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither shall he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it. それゆえ、主はアッスリヤの王について、こう仰せられる、『彼はこの町にこない。またここに矢を放たない。また盾をもって、その前にこない。また塁を築いて、これを攻めることはない。
37-34 By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and he shall not come unto this city, saith Jehovah. 彼は来た道から帰って、この町に、はいることはない、と主は言う。
37-35 For I will defend this city to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake. わたしは自分のため、また、わたしのしもべダビデのために町を守って、これを救おう』」。
37-36 And the angel of Jehovah went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand; and when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies. 主の使が出て、アッスリヤびとの陣営で十八万五千人を撃ち殺した。人々が朝早く起きて見ると、彼らは皆死体となっていた。
37-37 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. アッスリヤの王セナケリブは立ち去り、帰っていってニネベにいたが、
37-38 And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead. その神ニスロクの神殿で礼拝していた時、その子らのアデラン・メレクとシャレゼルがつるぎをもって彼を殺し、ともにアララテの地へ逃げていった。それで、その子エサルハドンが代って王となった。
