Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant, and Israel, who I have chosen: |
しかし、わがしもべヤコブよ、わたしが選んだイスラエルよ、いま聞け。 |
| 44-2 |
Thus saith Jehovah that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, who will help thee: Fear not, O Jacob my servant; and thou, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen. |
あなたを造り、あなたを胎内に形造り、あなたを助ける主はこう言われる、『わがしもべヤコブよ、わたしが選んだエシュルンよ、恐れるな。 |
| 44-3 |
For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and streams upon the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: |
わたしは、かわいた地に水を注ぎ、干からびた地に流れをそそぎ、わが霊をあなたの子らにそそぎ、わが恵みをあなたの子孫に与えるからである。 |

and they shall spring up among the grass, as willows by the watercourses. |
こうして、彼らは水の中の草のように、流れのほとりの柳のように、生え育つ。 |
| 44-5 |
One shall say, I am Jehovah’s; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto Jehovah, and surname himself by the name of Israel. |
ある人は「わたしは主のものである」と言い、ある人はヤコブの名をもって自分を呼び、またある人は「主のものである」と手にしるして、イスラエルの名をもって自分を呼ぶ』」。 |

Thus saith Jehovah, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God. |
主、イスラエルの王、イスラエルをあがなう者、万軍の主はこう言われる、「わたしは初めであり、わたしは終りである。わたしのほかに神はない。 |

And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I established the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and that shall come to pass, let them declare. |
だれかわたしに等しい者があるか。その者はそれを示し、またそれを告げ、わが前に言いつらねよ。だれが、昔から、きたるべき事を聞かせたか。その者はやがて成るべき事をわれわれに告げよ。 |
| 44-8 |
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have I not declared unto thee of old, and showed it? and ye are my witnesses. Is there a God besides me? yea, there is no Rock; I know not any. |
恐れてはならない、またおののいてはならない。わたしはこの事を昔から、あなたがたに聞かせなかったか、また告げなかったか。あなたがたはわが証人である。わたしのほかに神があるか。わたしのほかに岩はない。わたしはそのあることを知らない」。 |

They that fashion a graven image are all of them vanity; and the things that they delight in shall not profit; and their own witnesses see not, nor know: that they may be put to shame. |
偶像を造る者は皆むなしく、彼らの喜ぶところのものは、なんの役にも立たない。その信者は見ることもなく、また知ることもない。ゆえに彼らは恥を受ける。 |

Who hath fashioned a god, or molten an image that is profitable for nothing? |
だれが神を造り、またなんの役にも立たない偶像を鋳たか。 |
| 44-11 |
Behold, all his fellows shall be put to shame; and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; they shall fear, they shall be put to shame together. |
見よ、その仲間は皆恥を受ける。その細工人らは人間にすぎない。彼らが皆集まって立つとき、恐れて共に恥じる。 |
| 44-12 |
The smith maketh an axe, and worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with his strong arm: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth; he drinketh no water, and is faint. |
鉄の細工人はこれを造るのに炭の火をもって細工し、鎚をもってこれを造り、強い腕をもってこれを鍛える。彼が飢えれば力は衰え、水を飲まなければ疲れはてる。 |

The carpenter stretcheth out a line; he marketh it out with a pencil; he shapeth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compasses, and shapeth it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man, to dwell in a house. |
木の細工人は線を引き、鉛筆でえがき、かんなで削り、コンパスでえがき、それを人の美しい姿にしたがって人の形に造り、家の中に安置する。 |

He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the holm-tree and the oak, and strengtheneth for himself one among the trees of the forest: he planteth a fir-tree, and the rain doth nourish it. |
彼は香柏を切り倒し、あるいはかしの木、あるいはかしわの木を選んで、それを林の木の中で強く育てる。あるいは香柏を植え、雨にそれを育てさせる。 |
| 44-15 |
Then shall it be for a man to burn; and he taketh thereof, and warmeth himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread: yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto. |
こうして人はその一部をとって、たきぎとし、これをもって身を暖め、またこれを燃やしてパンを焼き、また他の一部を神に造って拝み、刻んだ像に造ってその前にひれ伏す。 |
| 44-16 |
He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied; yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire. |
その半ばは火に燃やし、その半ばで肉を煮て食べ、あるいは肉をあぶって食べ飽き、また身を暖めて言う、「ああ、暖まった、熱くなった」と。 |
| 44-17 |
And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image; he falleth down unto it and worshippeth, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. |
そしてその余りをもって神を造って偶像とし、その前にひれ伏して拝み、これに祈って、「あなたはわが神だ、わたしを救え」と言う。 |
| 44-18 |
They know not, neither do they consider: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand. |
これらの人は知ることがなく、また悟ることがない。その目はふさがれて見ることができず、その心は鈍くなって悟ることができない。 |
| 44-19 |
And none calleth to mind, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree? |
その心のうちに思うことをせず、また知識がなく、悟りがないために、「わたしはその半ばを火に燃やし、またその炭火の上でパンを焼き、肉をあぶって食べ、その残りの木をもって憎むべきものを造るのか。木のはしくれの前にひれ伏すのか」と言う者もない。 |

He feedeth on ashes; a deceived heart hath turned him aside; and he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand? |
彼は灰を食い、迷った心に惑わされて、おのれを救うことができず、また「わが右の手に偽りがあるではないか」と言わない。 |
| 44-21 |
Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me. |
ヤコブよ、イスラエルよ、これらの事を心にとめよ。あなたはわがしもべだから。わたしはあなたを造った、あなたはわがしもべだ。イスラエルよ、わたしはあなたを忘れない。 |
| 44-22 |
I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. |
わたしはあなたのとがを雲のように吹き払い、あなたの罪を霧のように消した。わたしに立ち返れ、わたしはあなたをあがなったから。 |
| 44-23 |
Sing, O ye heavens, for Jehovah hath done it; shout, ye lower parts of the earth; break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for Jehovah hath redeemed Jacob, and will glorify himself in Israel. |
天よ、歌え、主がこの事をなされたから。地の深き所よ、呼ばわれ。もろもろの山よ、林およびその中のもろもろの木よ、声を放って歌え。主はヤコブをあがない、イスラエルのうちに栄光をあらわされたから。 |

Thus saith Jehovah, thy Redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb: I am Jehovah, that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth (who is with me?); |
あなたをあがない、あなたを胎内に造られた主はこう言われる、「わたしは主である。わたしはよろずの物を造り、ただわたしだけが天をのべ、地をひらき、――だれがわたしと共にいたか―― |

that frustrateth the signs of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish; |
偽る物のしるしをむなしくし、占う者を狂わせ、賢い者をうしろに退けて、その知識を愚かにする。 |
| 44-26 |
that confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith of Jerusalem, She shall be inhabited; and of the cities of Judah, They shall be built, and I will raise up the waste places thereof; |
わたしは、わがしもべの言葉を遂げさせ、わが使の計りごとを成らせ、エルサレムについては、『これは民の住む所となる』と言い、ユダのもろもろの町については、『ふたたび建てられる、わたしはその荒れ跡を興そう』と言い、 |

that saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers; |
また淵については、『かわけ、わたしはあなたのもろもろの川を干す』と言い、 |
| 44-28 |
That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure, even saying of Jerusalem, She shall be built; and of the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid. |
またクロスについては、『彼はわが牧者、わが目的をことごとくなし遂げる』と言い、エルサレムについては、『ふたたび建てられる』と言い、神殿については、『あなたの基がすえられる』と言う」。 |
