Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might quake at thy presence, |
どうか、あなたが天を裂いて下り、あなたの前に山々が震い動くように。 |

as when fire kindleth the brushwood, and the fire causeth the waters to boil; to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence! |
火が柴木を燃やし、火が水を沸かすときのごとく下られるように。そして、み名をあなたのあだにあらわし、もろもろの国をあなたの前に震えおののかせられるように。 |

When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains quaked at thy presence. |
あなたは、われわれが期待しなかった恐るべき事をなされた時に下られたので、山々は震い動いた。 |

For from of old men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen a God besides thee, who worketh for him that waiteth for him. |
いにしえからこのかた、あなたのほか神を待ち望む者に、このような事を行われた神を聞いたことはなく、耳に入れたこともなく、目に見たこともない。 |

Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou wast wroth, and we sinned: in them have we been of long time; and shall we be saved? |
あなたは喜んで義を行い、あなたの道にあって、あなたを記念する者を迎えられる。見よ、あなたは怒られた、われわれは罪を犯した。われわれは久しく罪のうちにあった。われわれは救われるであろうか。 |

For we are all become as one that is unclean, and all our righteousnesses are as a polluted garment: and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. |
われわれはみな汚れた人のようになり、われわれの正しい行いは、ことごとく汚れた衣のようである。われわれはみな木の葉のように枯れ、われわれの不義は風のようにわれわれを吹き去る。 |

And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee; for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us by means of our iniquities. |
あなたの名を呼ぶ者はなく、みずから励んで、あなたによりすがる者はない。あなたはみ顔を隠して、われわれを顧みられず、われわれをおのれの不義の手に渡された。 |

But now, O Jehovah, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. |
されど主よ、あなたはわれわれの父です。われわれは粘土であって、あなたは陶器師です。われわれはみな、み手のわざです。 |

Be not wroth very sore, O Jehovah, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, look, we beseech thee, we are all thy people. |
主よ、ひどくお怒りにならぬように、いつまでも不義をみこころにとめられぬように。どうぞ、われわれを顧みてください。われわれはみな、あなたの民です。 |

Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. |
あなたの聖なる町々は荒野となり、シオンは荒野となり、エルサレムは荒れすたれた。 |

Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned with fire; and all our pleasant places are laid waste. |
われわれの先祖があなたをほめたたえた聖なる麗しいわれわれの宮は火で焼かれ、われわれが慕った所はことごとく荒れはてた。 |

Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O Jehovah? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore? |
主よ、これらの事があってもなお、あなたはみずからをおさえ、黙して、われわれをいたく苦しめられるのですか。 |
