And Jehovah said unto me, Take thee a great tablet, and write upon it with the pen of a man, For Maher-shalal-hash-baz; |
主はわたしに言われた、「一枚の大きな札を取って、その上に普通の文字で、『マヘル・シャラル・ハシ・バズ』と書きなさい」。 |

and I will take unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah. |
そこで、わたしは確かな証人として、祭司ウリヤおよびエベレキヤの子ゼカリヤを立てた。 |

And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said Jehovah unto me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz. |
わたしが預言者の妻に近づくと、彼女はみごもって男の子を産んだ。その時、主はわたしに言われた、「その名をマヘル・シャラル・ハシ・バズと呼びなさい。 |

For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and, My mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria. |
それはこの子がまだ『おとうさん、おかあさん』と呼ぶことを知らないうちに、ダマスコの富と、サマリヤのぶんどり品とが、アッスリヤ王の前に奪い去られるからである」。 |

And Jehovah spake unto me yet again, saying, |
主はまた重ねてわたしに言われた、 |
| 8-6 |
Forasmuch as this people have refused the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son; |
「この民はゆるやかに流れるシロアの水を捨てて、レヂンとレマリヤの子の前に恐れくじける。 |
| 8-7 |
now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the River, strong and many, even the king of Assyria and all his glory: and it shall come up over all its channels, and go over all its banks; |
それゆえ見よ、主は勢いたけく、みなぎりわたる大川の水を彼らにむかってせき入れられる。これはアッスリヤの王と、そのもろもろの威勢とであって、そのすべての支流にはびこり、すべての岸を越え、 |

and it shall sweep onward into Judah; it shall overflow and pass through; it shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of its wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel. |
ユダに流れ入り、あふれみなぎって、首にまで及ぶ。インマヌエルよ、その広げた翼はあまねく、あなたの国に満ちわたる」。 |

Make an uproar, O ye peoples, and be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces. |
もろもろの民よ、打ち破られて、驚きあわてよ。遠き国々のものよ、耳を傾けよ。腰に帯して、驚きあわてよ。腰に帯して、驚きあわてよ。 |

Take counsel together, and it shall be brought to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us. |
ともに計れ、しかし、成らない。言葉を出せ、しかし、行われない。神がわれわれと共におられるからである。 |
| 8-11 |
For Jehovah spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying, |
主は強いみ手をもって、わたしを捕え、わたしに語り、この民の道に歩まないように、さとして言われた、 |
| 8-12 |
Say ye not, A conspiracy, concerning all whereof this people shall say, A conspiracy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be in dread thereof. |
「この民がすべて陰謀ととなえるものを陰謀ととなえてはならない。彼らの恐れるものを恐れてはならない。またおののいてはならない。 |
| 8-13 |
Jehovah of hosts, him shall ye sanctify; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. |
あなたがたは、ただ万軍の主を聖として、彼をかしこみ、彼を恐れなければならない。 |
| 8-14 |
And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. |
主はイスラエルの二つの家には聖所となり、またさまたげの石、つまずきの岩となり、エルサレムの住民には網となり、わなとなる。 |
| 8-15 |
And many shall stumble thereon, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken. |
多くの者はこれにつまずき、かつ倒れ、破られ、わなにかけられ、捕えられる」。 |
| 8-16 |
Bind thou up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. |
わたしは、あかしを一つにまとめ、教をわが弟子たちのうちに封じておこう。 |
| 8-17 |
And I will wait for Jehovah, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him. |
主はいま、ヤコブの家に、み顔をかくしておられるとはいえ、わたしはその主を待ち、主を望みまつる。 |
| 8-18 |
Behold, I and the children whom Jehovah hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from Jehovah of hosts, who dwelleth in mount Zion. |
見よ、わたしと、主のわたしに賜わった子たちとは、シオンの山にいます万軍の主から与えられたイスラエルのしるしであり、前ぶれである。 |
| 8-19 |
And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits and unto the wizards, that chirp and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? on behalf of the living should they seek unto the dead? |
人々があなたがたにむかって「さえずるように、ささやくように語る巫子および魔術者に求めよ」という時、民は自分たちの神に求むべきではないか。生ける者のために死んだ者に求めるであろうか。 |
| 8-20 |
To the law and to the testimony! if they speak not according to this word, surely there is no morning for them. |
ただ教とあかしとに求めよ。まことに彼らはこの言葉によって語るが、そこには夜明けがない。 |
| 8-21 |
And they shall pass through it, sore distressed and hungry; and it shall come to pass that, when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse by their king and by their God, and turn their faces upward: |
彼らはしえたげられ、飢えて国の中を経あるく。その飢えるとき怒りを放ち、自分たちの王、自分たちの神をのろい、かつその顔を天に向ける。 |

and they shall look unto the earth, and, behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish; and into thick darkness they shall be driven away. |
また地を見ると、見よ、悩みと暗きと、苦しみのやみとがあり、彼らは暗黒に追いやられる。 |
