But there shall be no gloom to her that was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali; but in the latter time hath he made it glorious, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. |
しかし、苦しみにあった地にも、やみがなくなる。さきにはゼブルンの地、ナフタリの地にはずかしめを与えられたが、後には海に至る道、ヨルダンの向こうの地、異邦人のガリラヤに光栄を与えられる。 |

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. |
暗やみの中に歩んでいた民は大いなる光を見た。暗黒の地に住んでいた人々の上に光が照った。 |
| 9-3 |
Thou hast multiplied the nation, thou hast increased their joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil. |
あなたが国民を増し、その喜びを大きくされたので、彼らは刈入れ時に喜ぶように、獲物を分かつ時に楽しむように、あなたの前に喜んだ。 |

For the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, thou hast broken as in the day of Midian. |
これはあなたが彼らの負っているくびきと、その肩のつえと、しえたげる者のむちとを、ミデアンの日になされたように折られたからだ。 |

For all the armor of the armed man in the tumult, and the garments rolled in blood, shall be for burning, for fuel of fire. |
すべて戦場で、歩兵のはいたくつと、血にまみれた衣とは、火の燃えくさとなって焼かれる。 |

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. |
ひとりのみどりごがわれわれのために生れた、ひとりの男の子がわれわれに与えられた。まつりごとはその肩にあり、その名は、「霊妙なる議士、大能の神、とこしえの父、平和の君」ととなえられる。 |

Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this. |
そのまつりごとと平和とは、増し加わって限りなく、ダビデの位に座して、その国を治め、今より後、とこしえに公平と正義とをもってこれを立て、これを保たれる。万軍の主の熱心がこれをなされるのである。 |

The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel. |
主はひと言をヤコブにおくり、これをイスラエルの上にくだされる。 |

And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in pride and in stoutness of heart, |
すべてこの民、エフライムとサマリヤに住む者とは知るであろう。彼らは高ぶり、心おごって言う、 |
| 9-10 |
The bricks are fallen, but we will build with hewn stone; the sycomores are cut down, but we will put cedars in their place. |
「かわらがくずれても、われわれは切り石をもって建てよう。くわの木が切り倒されても、くわの木が切り倒されても、われわれは香柏をもってこれにかえよう」と。 |

Therefore Jehovah will set up on high against him the adversaries of Rezin, and will stir up his enemies, |
それゆえ、主は敵を起して彼らを攻めさせ、そのあだを奮い立たせられる。 |
| 9-12 |
the Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. |
東にスリヤびとあり、西にペリシテびとあり、彼らは大口をあけてイスラエルを食い尽す。それでも主の怒りはやまず、なおも、そのみ手を伸ばされる。 |

Yet the people have not turned unto him that smote them, neither have they sought Jehovah of hosts. |
しかもなお、この民は自分たちを撃った者に帰らず、万軍の主を求めない。 |
| 9-14 |
Therefore Jehovah will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm-branch and rush, in one day. |
それゆえ、主はイスラエルから頭と尾と、しゅろの枝と葦とを一日のうちに断ち切られる。 |
| 9-15 |
The elder and the honorable man, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. |
その頭とは、長老と尊き人、その尾とは、偽りを教える預言者である。 |
| 9-16 |
For they that lead this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed. |
この民を導く者は、これを迷わせ、彼らに導かれる者は、のみ尽される。 |
| 9-17 |
Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for every one is profane and an evil-doer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. |
それゆえ、主はその若き人々を喜ばれず、そのみなしごと寡婦とをあわれまれない。彼らはみな、不信仰であって、悪を行う者、すべての口は愚かな事を語るからである。それでも主の怒りはやまず、 |

For wickedness burneth as the fire; it devoureth the briers and thorns; yea, it kindleth in the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke. |
悪は火のように燃え、いばらと、おどろとを食い尽し、茂りあう林を焼き、煙の柱となって巻きあがる。 |
| 9-19 |
Through the wrath of Jehovah of hosts is the land burnt up; and the people are as the fuel of fire: no man spareth his brother. |
万軍の主の怒りによって地は焼け、その民は火の燃えくさのようになり、だれもその兄弟をあわれむ者がない。 |
| 9-20 |
And one shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm: |
彼らは右手につかんでも、なお飢え、左手で食べても飽くことがない。おのおのその隣り人の肉を食う。 |
| 9-21 |
Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh; and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. |
マナセはエフライムを、エフライムはマナセを食い、彼らは共にユダを攻める。それでも主の怒りはやまず、なおも、そのみ手を伸ばされる。 |
