The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin: |

to whom the word of Jehovah came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. |
アモンの子、ユダの王ヨシヤの時、すなわちその治世の十三年に、主の言葉がエレミヤに臨んだ。 |

It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month. |
その言葉はまたヨシヤの子、ユダの王エホヤキムの時にも臨んで、ヨシヤの子、ユダの王ゼデキヤの十一年の終り、すなわちその年の五月にエルサレムの民が捕え移された時にまで及んだ。 |

Now the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, |
主の言葉がわたしに臨んで言う、 |
| 1-5 |
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee; I have appointed thee a prophet unto the nations. |
「わたしはあなたをまだ母の胎につくらないさきに、あなたを知り、あなたがまだ生れないさきに、あなたを聖別し、あなたを立てて万国の預言者とした」。 |

Then said I, Ah, Lord Jehovah! behold, I know not how to speak; for I am a child. |
その時わたしは言った、「ああ、主なる神よ、わたしはただ若者にすぎず、どのように語ってよいか知りません」。 |
| 1-7 |
But Jehovah said unto me, Say not, I am a child; for to whomsoever I shall send thee thou shalt go, and whatsoever I shall command thee thou shalt speak. |
しかし主はわたしに言われた、「あなたはただ若者にすぎないと言ってはならない。だれにでも、すべてわたしがつかわす人へ行き、あなたに命じることをみな語らなければならない。 |

Be not afraid because of them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith Jehovah. |
彼らを恐れてはならない、わたしがあなたと共にいて、あなたを救うからである」と主は仰せられる。 |
| 1-9 |
Then Jehovah put forth his hand, and touched my mouth; and Jehovah said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth: |
そして主はみ手を伸べて、わたしの口につけ、主はわたしに言われた、「見よ、わたしの言葉をあなたの口に入れた。 |

see, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant. |
見よ、わたしはきょう、あなたを万民の上と、万国の上に立て、あなたに、あるいは抜き、あるいはこわし、あるいは滅ぼし、あるいは倒し、あるいは建て、あるいは植えさせる」。 |

Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond-tree. |
主の言葉がまたわたしに臨んで言う、「エレミヤよ、あなたは何を見るか」。わたしは答えた、「あめんどうの枝を見ます」。 |

Then said Jehovah unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I watch over my word to perform it. |
主はわたしに言われた、「あなたの見たとおりだ。わたしは自分の言葉を行おうとして見張っているのだ」。 |
| 1-13 |
And the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a boiling caldron; and the face thereof is from the north. |
主の言葉がふたたびわたしに臨んで言う、「あなたは何を見るか」。わたしは答えた、「煮え立っているなべを見ます。北からこちらに向かっています」。 |

Then Jehovah said unto me, Out of the north evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land. |
主はわたしに言われた、「災が北から起って、この地に住むすべての者の上に臨む」。 |
| 1-15 |
For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith Jehovah; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah. |
主は言われる、「見よ、わたしは北の国々のすべての民を呼ぶ。彼らは来て、エルサレムの門の入口と、周囲のすべての城壁、およびユダのすべての町々に向かって、おのおのその座を設ける。 |
| 1-16 |
And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands. |
わたしは、彼らがわたしを捨てて、すべての悪事を行ったゆえに、わたしのさばきを彼らに告げる。彼らは他の神々に香をたき、自分の手で作った物を拝したのである。 |

Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at them, lest I dismay thee before them. |
しかしあなたは腰に帯して立ち、わたしが命じるすべての事を彼らに告げよ。彼らを恐れてはならない。さもないと、わたしは彼らの前であなたをあわてさせる。 |

For, behold, I have made thee this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. |
見よ、わたしはきょう、この全国と、ユダの王と、そのつかさと、その祭司と、その地の民の前に、あなたを堅き城、鉄の柱、青銅の城壁とする。 |

And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee, saith Jehovah, to deliver thee. |
彼らはあなたと戦うが、あなたに勝つことはできない。わたしがあなたと共にいて、あなたを救うからである」と主は言われる。 |
