2-1 And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, 主の言葉がわたしに臨んで言う、
2-2 Go, and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, I remember for thee the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals; how thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown. 「行って、エルサレムに住む者の耳に告げよ、主はこう言われる、わたしはあなたの若い時の純情、花嫁の時の愛、荒野なる、種まかぬ地でわたしに従ったことを覚えている。
2-3 Israel was holiness unto Jehovah, the first-fruits of his increase: all that devour him shall be held guilty; evil shall come upon them, saith Jehovah. イスラエルは主のために聖別されたもの、その刈入れの初穂である。すべてこれを食べる者は罪せられ、災にあう」と主は言われる。
2-4 Hear ye the word of Jehovah, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel: ヤコブの家とイスラエルの家のすべてのやからよ、主の言葉を聞け。
2-5 thus saith Jehovah, What unrighteousness have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain? 主はこう言われる、「あなたがたの先祖は、わたしになんの悪い事があるのを見て、わたしから遠ざかり、むなしいものに従って、むなしくなったのか。
2-6 Neither said they, Where is Jehovah that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that none passed through, and where no man dwelt? 彼らは言わなかった、『われわれをエジプトの地より導き出し、荒野なる、穴の多い荒れた地、かわいた濃い暗黒の地、人の通らない、人の住まない地を通らせた主はどこにおられるか』と。
2-7 And I brought you into a plentiful land, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination. わたしはあなたがたを導いて豊かな地に入れ、その実と良い物を食べさせた。しかしあなたがたはここにはいって、わたしの地を汚し、わたしの嗣業を憎むべきものとした。
2-8 The priests said not, Where is Jehovah? and they that handle the law knew me not: the rulers also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit. 祭司たちは、『主はどこにおられるか』と言わなかった。律法を扱う者たちはわたしを知らず、つかさたちはわたしにそむき、預言者たちはバアルによって預言し、益なき者に従って行った。
2-9 Wherefore I will yet contend with you, saith Jehovah, and with your children’s children will I contend. それゆえ、わたしはなお、あなたがたと争う、またあなたがたの子孫と争う」と主は言われる。
2-10 For pass over to the isles of Kittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently; and see if there hath been such a thing. 「あなたがたはクプロの島々に渡ってみよ、また人をケダルにつかわして、このようなことがかつてあったかをつまびらかに、しらべてみよ。
2-11 Hath a nation changed its gods, which yet are no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit. その神を神ではない者に取り替えた国があろうか。ところが、わたしの民はその栄光を益なきものと取り替えた。
2-12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith Jehovah. 天よ、この事を知って驚け、おののけ、いたく恐れよ」と主は言われる。
2-13 13 For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. 「それは、わたしの民が二つの悪しき事を行ったからである。すなわち生ける水の源であるわたしを捨てて、自分で水ためを掘った。それは、こわれた水ためで、水を入れておくことのできないものだ。
2-14 Is Israel a servant? is he a home-born slave? why is he become a prey? イスラエルは奴隷であるか、家に生れたしもべであるか。それならなぜ捕われの身となったのか。
2-15 The young lions have roared upon him, and yelled; and they have made his land waste: his cities are burned up, without inhabitant. ししは彼に向かってほえ、その声を高くあげて、彼の地を荒した。その町々は滅びて住む人もない。
2-16 The children also of Memphis and Tahpanhes have broken the crown of thy head. メンピスとタパネスの人々もまた、あなたのかしらの冠を砕いた。
2-17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, when he led thee by the way? あなたの神、主があなたを道に導かれた時、あなたは主を捨てたので、この事があなたに及んだのではないか。
2-18 And now what hast thou to do in the way to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? or what hast thou to do in the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River? あなたがナイルの水を飲もうとして、エジプトへ行くのは何のためか。またユフラテの水を飲もうとして、アッスリヤへ行くのは何のためか。
2-19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and a bitter, that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts. あなたの悪事はあなたを懲しめ、あなたの背信はあなたを責める。あなたが、あなたの神、主を捨てることの悪しくかつ苦いことであるのを見て知るがよい。わたしを恐れることがあなたのうちにないのだ」と万軍の神、主は言われる。
2-20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bonds; and thou saidst, I will not serve; for upon every high hill and under every green tree thou didst bow thyself, playing the harlot. 「あなたは久しい以前に自分のくびきを折り、自分のなわめを断ち切って、『わたしは仕えることをしない』と言った。そして、すべての高い丘の上と、すべての青木の下で、遊女のように身をかがめた。
2-21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate branches of a foreign vine unto me? わたしはあなたを、まったく良い種のすぐれたぶどうの木として植えたのに、どうしてあなたは変って、悪い野ぶどうの木となったのか。
2-22 For though thou wash thee with lye, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord Jehovah. たといソーダをもって自ら洗い、また多くの灰汁を用いても、あなたの悪の汚れは、なおわたしの前にある」と主なる神は言われる。
2-23 How canst thou say, I am not defiled, I have not gone after the Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways; 「どうしてあなたは、『わたしは汚れていない、バアルに従わなかった』と言うことができようか。谷の中でのあなたの行いを見るがよい。あなたのしたことを知るがよい。あなたは御しがたい若いらくだであって、その道を行きつもどりつする。
2-24 a wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind in her desire; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her. あなたは荒野に慣れた野の雌ろばである、その欲情のために風にあえぐ。その欲情をだれがとどめることができようか。すべてこれを尋ねる者は苦労するにおよばない、その月であればこれに会うことができる。
2-25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, It is in vain; no, for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go. あなたの足が、はだしにならないように、のどが、かわかないようにせよ。ところが、あなたは言った、『それはだめだ、わたしは異なる国の者を愛して、それに従って行こう』と。
2-26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets; 盗びとが捕えられて、はずかしめを受けるように、イスラエルの家は、はずかしめを受ける。彼らはその王も、そのつかさも、その祭司も、その預言者もみなそのとおりである。
2-27 who say to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face; but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us. 彼らは木に向かって、『あなたはわたしの父です』と言い、また石に向かって、『あなたはわたしを生んでくださった』と言う。彼らは背をわたしに向けて、その顔をわたしに向けない。しかし彼らが災にあう時は、『立って、われわれを救いたまえ』と言う。
2-28 But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah. あなたが自分のために造った神々はどこにいるのか。あなたが災にあう時、もし彼らがあなたを救えるなら、立ってもらうがよい。ユダよ、あなたの神々は、あなたの町の数ほど多いからである。
2-29 Wherefore will ye contend with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith Jehovah. あなたがたは、なぜわたしと争うのか。あなたがたは皆わたしにそむいている」と主は言われる。
2-30 In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion. 「わたしがあなたがたの子どもたちを打ったのはむだであった。彼らは戒めを受けず、あなたがたのつるぎは、たけりたつししのように、預言者たちを滅ぼした。
2-31 O generation, see ye the word of Jehovah. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? or a land of thick darkness? wherefore say my people, We are broken loose; we will come no more unto thee? あなたがたこの世代の人よ、主の言葉を聞け。わたしはイスラエルにとって、荒野であったであろうか。暗黒の地であったであろうか。それならなぜ、わたしの民は『われわれは自由だ、もはやあなたのところへは行かない』と言うのか。
2-32 Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number. おとめはその飾り物を忘れることができようか。花嫁はその帯を忘れることができようか。ところが、わたしの民の、わたしを忘れた日は数えがたい。
2-33 How trimmest thou thy way to seek love! therefore even the wicked women hast thou taught thy ways. あなたは恋人を尋ねて、いかにも巧みにその方に足を向ける。それゆえ悪い女さえ、あなたの道を学んだ。
2-34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the innocent poor: thou didst not find them breaking in; but it is because of all these things. また、あなたの着物のすそには罪のない貧しい人の命の血がついている。あなたは彼らが押し入るのを見たのではない。しかも、すべてこれらの事にもかかわらず、
2-35 Yet thou saidst, I am innocent; surely his anger is turned away from me. Behold, I will enter into judgment with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned. あなたは言う、『わたしは罪がない。彼の怒りは、決してわたしに臨むことがない』と。あなたが『わたしは罪を犯さなかった』と言うことによって、わたしはあなたをさばく。
2-36 Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou shalt be ashamed of Egypt also, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria. あなたはなぜ軽々しくさまよって、その道を変えようとするのか。あなたはアッスリヤに、はずかしめを受けたように、エジプトにもまた、はずかしめを受ける。
2-37 From thence also shalt thou go forth, with thy hands upon thy head: for Jehovah hath rejected those in whom thou trustest, and thou shalt not prosper with them. あなたはまた両手を頭に置いて、そこから出て来る。主があなたの頼みとする者どもを捨てられたので、あなたは彼らによって栄えることがないからだ。
