| 21-1 |
The word which came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, when king Zedekiah sent unto him Pashhur the son of Malchijah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying, |

| 21-2 |
Inquire, I pray thee, of Jehovah for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us: peradventure Jehovah will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us. |
「バビロンの王ネブカデレザルがわれわれを攻めようとしているゆえ、われわれのために主に尋ねてほしい。主はそのもろもろの不思議なわざをもって、われわれを助け、バビロンの王をわれわれから退かせられるかも知れない」と言わせた。その時、主の言葉がエレミヤに臨んだ。 |

Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus shall ye say to Zedekiah: |
エレミヤは彼らに答えて言った、「あなたがたはゼデキヤにこのように言いなさい、 |
| 21-4 |
Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans that besiege you, without the walls; and I will gather them into the midst of this city. |
『イスラエルの神、主はこう仰せられる、見よ、あなたがたが、この城壁の外にあって、あなたがたを攻め囲むバビロンの王およびカルデヤびとと戦うとき、わたしはあなたがたの手に持っている武器をとりあげ、これを町の中に集めさせる。 |
| 21-5 |
And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation. |
わたしは手を伸べ、強い腕をもって、怒り、憤り、激しく怒って、あなたがたを攻める。 |
| 21-6 |
And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence |
わたしはまたこの町に住む人と獣とを撃つ。彼らはみな重い疫病にかかって死ぬ。 |
| 21-7 |
And afterward, saith Jehovah, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy. |
主は言われる、この後、わたしはユダの王ゼデキヤとその家来たち、および疫病と、つるぎと、ききんを免れて、この町に残っている民を、バビロンの王ネブカデレザルの手と、その敵の手、およびその命を求める者の手に渡す。バビロンの王はつるぎの刃にかけて彼らを撃ち、彼らを惜しまず、顧みず、またあわれむこともしない』。 |
| 21-8 |
And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death. |
あなたはまたこの民に言いなさい、『主はこう仰せられる、見よ、わたしは命の道と死の道とをあなたがたの前に置く。 |
| 21-9 |
He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he that goeth out, and passeth over to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey. |
この町にとどまる者は、つるぎと、ききんと、疫病とで死ぬ。しかし、出て行って、あなたがたを攻め囲んでいるカルデヤびとに降伏する者は死を免れ、その命は自分のぶんどり物となる。 |
| 21-10 |
For I have set my face upon this city for evil, and not for good, saith Jehovah: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire. |
主は言われる、わたしがこの町に顔を向けたのは幸を与えるためではなく、災を与えるためである。この町はバビロンの王の手に渡される。彼は火をもって、これを焼き払う』。 |
| 21-11 |
And touching the house of the king of Judah, hear ye the word of Jehovah: |
またユダの王の家に言いなさい、『主の言葉を聞きなさい。 |
| 21-12 |
O house of David, thus saith Jehovah, Execute justice in the morning, and deliver him that is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings. |
ダビデの家よ、主はこう仰せられる、朝ごとに、正しいさばきを行い、物を奪われた人をしえたげる者の手から救え。そうしないと、あなたがたの悪い行いのために、わたしの怒りは火のように燃えて、それを消すことはできない』」。 |
| 21-13 |
Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and of the rock of the plain, saith Jehovah; you that say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations? |
「主は言われる、谷に住む者よ、平原の岩よ、見よ、わたしはあなたに敵する。あなたがたは言う、『だれが下ってきて、われわれを攻めるものか、だれがわれわれのいる所に、はいるものか』と。 |
| 21-14 |
And I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith Jehovah; and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is round about her. |
わたしはあなたがたを、その行いの実によって罰する。またその林に火をつけて、その周囲のものをみな焼き尽すと、主は言われる」。 |
