| 29-1 |
Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon, |
これは預言者エレミヤがエルサレムから、かの捕え移された長老たち、およびネブカデネザルによってエルサレムからバビロンに捕え移された祭司と預言者ならびにすべての民に送った手紙に書きしるした言葉である。 |

(after that Jeconiah the king, and the queen-mother, and the eunuchs, and the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the craftsmen, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem,) |
それはエコニヤ王と太后と宦官およびユダとエルサレムのつかさたち、および工匠と鍛冶とがエルサレムを去ってのちに書かれたものであって、 |

by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon,) saying, |
エレミヤはその手紙をシャパンの子エラサおよびヒルキヤの子ゲマリヤの手によって送った。この人々はユダの王ゼデキヤがバビロンに行かせ、バビロンの王ネブカデネザルのもとにつかわしたものであった。その手紙には次のように書いてあった。 |

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all the captivity, whom I have caused to be carried away captive from Jerusalem unto Babylon: |
「万軍の主、イスラエルの神は、すべて捕え移された者、すなわち、わたしがエルサレムから、バビロンに捕え移させた者に、こう言う、 |
| 29-5 |
Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them. |
あなたがたは家を建てて、それに住み、畑を作ってその産物を食べよ。 |
| 29-6 |
Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply ye there, and be not diminished. |
妻をめとって、むすこ娘を産み、また、そのむすこに嫁をめとり、娘をとつがせて、むすこ娘を産むようにせよ。その所であなたがたの数を増し、減ってはならない。 |
| 29-7 |
And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray unto Jehovah for it; for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace. |
わたしがあなたがたを捕え移させたところの町の平安を求め、そのために主に祈るがよい。その町が平安であれば、あなたがたも平安を得るからである。 |
| 29-8 |
For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Let not your prophets that are in the midst of you, and your diviners, deceive you; neither hearken ye to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed. |
万軍の主、イスラエルの神はこう言われる、あなたがたのうちにいる預言者と占い師に惑わされてはならない。また彼らの見る夢に聞き従ってはならない。 |
| 29-9 |
For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith Jehovah. |
それは、彼らがわたしの名によってあなたがたに偽りを預言しているからである。わたしが彼らをつかわしたのではないと主は言われる。 |
| 29-10 |
For thus saith Jehovah, After seventy years are accomplished for Babylon, I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place. |
主はこう言われる、バビロンで七十年が満ちるならば、わたしはあなたがたを顧み、わたしの約束を果し、あなたがたをこの所に導き帰る。 |
| 29-11 |
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end. |
主は言われる、わたしがあなたがたに対していだいている計画はわたしが知っている。それは災を与えようというのではなく、平安を与えようとするものであり、あなたがたに将来を与え、希望を与えようとするものである。 |
| 29-12 |
And ye shall call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. |
その時、あなたがたはわたしに呼ばわり、来て、わたしに祈る。わたしはあなたがたの祈を聞く。 |
| 29-13 |
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. |
あなたがたはわたしを尋ね求めて、わたしに会う。もしあなたがたが一心にわたしを尋ね求めるならば、 |
| 29-14 |
And I will be found of you, saith Jehovah, and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places wither I have driven you, saith Jehovah; and I will bring you again unto the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive. |
わたしはあなたがたに会うと主は言われる。わたしはあなたがたの繁栄を回復し、あなたがたを万国から、すべてわたしがあなたがたを追いやった所から集め、かつ、わたしがあなたがたを捕われ離れさせたそのもとの所に、あなたがたを導き帰ろうと主は言われる。 |
| 29-15 |
Because ye have said, Jehovah hath raised us up prophets in Babylon; |
あなたがたは、『主はバビロンでわれわれのために預言者たちを起された』と言ったが、―― |
| 29-16 |
thus saith Jehovah concerning the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and concerning all the people that dwell in this city, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity; |
主はダビデの位に座している王と、この町に住むすべての民で、あなたがたと共に捕え移されなかった兄弟たちについて、こう言われる、 |
| 29-17 |
thus saith Jehovah of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so bad. |
『万軍の主はこう言われる、見よ、わたしは、つるぎと、ききんと、疫病を彼らに送り、彼らを悪くて食べられない腐ったいちじくのようにしてしまう。 |
| 29-18 |
And I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an execration, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them; |
わたしはつるぎと、ききんと、疫病をもって彼らのあとを追い、また彼らを地の万国に忌みきらわれるものとなし、わたしが彼らを追いやる国々で、のろいとなり、恐れとなり、物笑いとなり、はずかしめとならせる。 |
| 29-19 |
because they have not hearkened to my words, saith Jehovah, wherewith I sent unto them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith Jehovah. |
それは彼らがわたしの言葉に聞き従わなかったからであると主は言われる。わたしはこの言葉を、わたしのしもべである預言者たちによって、しきりに送ったが、あなたがたは聞こうともしなかったと主は言われる』。―― |
| 29-20 |
Hear ye therefore the word of Jehovah, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon. |
わたしがエルサレムからバビロンに送ったあなたがたすべての捕われ人よ、主の言葉を聞きなさい、 |
| 29-21 |
Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie unto you in my name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes; |
『わたしの名によって、あなたがたに偽りを預言しているコラヤの子アハブと、マアセヤの子ゼデキヤについて万軍の主、イスラエルの神はこう仰せられる、見よ、わたしは彼らをバビロンの王ネブカデレザルの手に渡す。王はあなたがたの目の前で彼らを殺す。 |
| 29-22 |
and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captives of Judah that are in Babylon, saying, Jehovah make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire; |
バビロンにいるユダの捕われ人は皆、彼らの名を、のろいの言葉に用いて、「主があなたをバビロンの王が火で焼いたゼデキヤとアハブのようにされるように」という。 |
| 29-23 |
because they have wrought folly in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I commanded them not; and I am he that knoweth, and am witness, saith Jehovah. |
それは、彼らがイスラエルのうちで愚かな事をし、隣の妻と不義を行い、わたしが命じたのでない偽りの言葉を、わたしの名によって語ったことによるのである。わたしはそれを知っており、またその証人であると主は言われる』」。 |
| 29-24 |
And concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite thou shalt speak, saying, |

| 29-25 |
Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thine own name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, saying, |
「万軍の主、イスラエルの神はこう仰せられる、あなたは自分の名でエルサレムにいるすべての民と、マアセヤの子祭司ゼパニヤおよびすべての祭司に手紙を送って言う、 |
| 29-26 |
Jehovah hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in the house of Jehovah, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in the stocks and in shackles. |
『主は祭司エホヤダに代ってあなたを祭司とし、主の宮をつかさどらせ、すべて狂い、かつ預言する者を足かせと首かせにつながせられる。 |
| 29-27 |
Now therefore, why hast thou not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who maketh himself a prophet to you, |
そうであるのに、どうしてあなたは、あなたがたに預言しているアナトテのエレミヤを戒めないのか。 |
| 29-28 |
forasmuch as he hath sent unto us in Babylon, saying, The captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them? |
彼はバビロンにいるわれわれの所に手紙を送って、捕われの時はなお長いゆえ、あなたがたは家を建ててそこに住み、畑を作ってその産物を食べよと言ってきた』」。 |
| 29-29 |
And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet. |
祭司ゼパニヤはこの手紙を預言者エレミヤに読み聞かせた。 |
| 29-30 |
Then came the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah, saying, |
その時、主の言葉がエレミヤに臨んだ、 |
| 29-31 |
Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith Jehovah concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he hath caused you to trust in a lie; |
「すべての捕われ人に書き送って言いなさい、ネヘラムびとシマヤの事について主はこう仰せられる、わたしはシマヤをつかわさなかったのに、彼があなたがたに預言して偽りを信じさせたので、 |
| 29-32 |
therefore thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed; he shall not have a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he behold the good that I will do unto my people, saith Jehovah, because he hath spoken rebellion against Jehovah. |
主はこう仰せられる、見よ、わたしはネヘラムびとシマヤとその子孫を罰する。彼は主に対する反逆を語ったゆえ、彼に属する者で、この民のうちに住み、わたしが自分の民に行おうとしている良い事を見るものはひとりもいない」。 |
