34-1 The word which came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion, and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying: バビロンの王ネブカデレザルがその全軍と、彼に従っている地のすべての国の人々、およびもろもろの民を率いて、エルサレムとその町々を攻めて戦っていた時に、主からエレミヤに臨んだ言葉、
34-2 Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Go, and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire: 「イスラエルの神、主はこう言われる、行ってユダの王ゼデキヤに告げて言いなさい、『主はこう言われる、見よ、わたしはこの町をバビロンの王の手に渡す。彼は火でこれを焼く。
34-3 and thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon. あなたはその手をのがれることはできない、必ず捕えられてその手に渡される。あなたはまのあたりバビロンの王を見、顔と顔を合わせて彼と語る。それからバビロンへ行く』。
34-4 Yet hear the word of Jehovah, O Zedekiah king of Judah: thus saith Jehovah concerning thee, Thou shalt not die by the sword; しかしユダの王ゼデキヤよ、主の言葉を聞きなさい。主はあなたの事についてこう言われる、『あなたはつるぎで死ぬことはない。
34-5 thou shalt die in peace; and with the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings that were before thee, so shall they make a burning for thee; and they shall lament thee, saying, Ah Lord! for I have spoken the word, saith Jehovah. あなたは安らかに死ぬ。民はあなたの先祖であるあなたの先の王たちのために香をたいたように、あなたのためにも香をたき、またあなたのために嘆いて「ああ、主君よ」と言う』。わたしがこの言葉をいうのであると主は言われる」。
34-6 Then Jeremiah the prophet spake all these words unto Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem, そこで預言者エレミヤはこの言葉をことごとくエルサレムでユダの王ゼデキヤに告げた。
34-7 when the king of Babylon’s army was fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and against Azekah; for these alone remained of the cities of Judah as fortified cities. その時バビロンの王の軍勢はエルサレム、および残っているユダのすべての町、すなわちラキシとアゼカを攻めて戦っていた。それはユダの町々のうちに、これらの堅固な町がなお残っていたからである。
34-8 The word that came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after that the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people that were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty unto them; ゼデキヤ王がエルサレムにいるすべての民と契約を立てて、彼らに釈放のことを告げ示した後に、主からエレミヤに臨んだ言葉。
34-9 that every man should let his man-servant, and every man his maid-servant, that is a Hebrew or a Hebrewess, go free; that none should make bondmen of them, to wit, of a Jew his brother. その契約はすなわち人がおのおのそのヘブルびとである男女の奴隷を解放し、その兄弟であるユダヤ人を奴隷としないことを定めたものであった。
34-10 And all the princes and all the people obeyed, that had entered into the covenant, that every one should let his man-servant, and every one his maid-servant, go free, that none should make bondmen of them any more; they obeyed, and let them go: この契約をしたつかさたちと、すべての民は人がおのおのその男女の奴隷を解放し、再びこれを奴隷としないということに聞き従って、これを解放したが、
34-11 but afterwards they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids. 後に心を翻し、解放した男女の奴隷をひきかえさせ、再びこれを従わせて奴隷とした。
34-12 Therefore the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying, そこで主の言葉が主からエレミヤに臨んだ、
34-13 Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying, 「イスラエルの神、主はこう言われる、わたしはあなたがたの先祖をエジプトの地、その奴隷であった家から導き出した時、彼らと契約を立てて言った、
34-14 At the end of seven years ye shall let go every man his brother that is a Hebrew, that hath been sold unto thee, and hath served thee six years, thou shalt let him go free from thee: but your fathers hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear. 『あなたがたの兄弟であるヘブルびとで、あなたがたに身を売り、六年の間あなたがたに仕えた者は、六年の終りに、あなたがたおのおのがこれを解放しなければならない。あなたがたは彼を解放して、あなたがたに仕えることをやめさせなければならない』。ところがあなたがたの先祖たちはわたしに聞き従わず、またその耳を傾けなかった。
34-15 And ye were now turned, and had done that which is right in mine eyes, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name: しかしあなたがたは今日、心を改め、おのおのその隣り人に釈放のことを告げ示して、わたしの見て正しいとすることを行い、かつわたしの名をもってとなえられる家で、わたしの前に契約を立てた。
34-16 but ye turned and profaned my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom ye had let go free at their pleasure, to return; and ye brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids. ところがあなたがたは再び心を翻して、わたしの名を汚し、おのおの男女の奴隷をその願いのままに解放したのをひきかえさせ、再びこれを従わせて、あなたがたの奴隷とした。
34-17 Therefore thus saith Jehovah: ye have not hearkened unto me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbor: behold, I proclaim unto you a liberty, saith Jehovah, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth. それゆえに、主はこう仰せられる、あなたがたがわたしに聞き従わず、おのおのその兄弟とその隣に釈放のことを告げ示さなかったので、見よ、わたしはあなたがたのために釈放を告げ示して、あなたがたをつるぎと、疫病と、ききんとに渡すと主は言われる。わたしはあなたがたを地のもろもろの国に忌みきらわれるものとする。
34-18 And I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant, that have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before me, when they cut the calf in twain and passed between the parts thereof; わたしの契約を破り、わたしの前に立てた契約の定めに従わない人々を、わたしは彼らが二つに裂いて、その二つの間を通った子牛のようにする。――
34-19 the princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, that passed between the parts of the calf; すなわち二つに分けた子牛の間を通ったユダのつかさたち、エルサレムのつかさたちと宦官と祭司と、この地のすべての民を、
34-20 I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life; and their dead bodies shall be for food unto the birds of the heavens, and to the beasts of the earth. わたしはその敵の手と、その命を求める者の手に渡す。その死体は空の鳥と野の獣の食物となる。
34-21 And Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, that are gone away from you. わたしはまたユダの王ゼデキヤと、そのつかさたちをその敵の手、その命を求める者の手、あなたがたを離れて去ったバビロンの王の軍勢の手に渡す。
34-22 Behold, I will command, saith Jehovah, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant. 主は言われる、見よ、わたしは彼らに命じて、この町に引きかえしてこさせる。彼らはこの町を攻めて戦い、これを取り、火を放って焼き払う。わたしはユダの町々を住む人のない荒れ地とする」。
