If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith Jehovah, if thou wilt return unto me, and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight; then shalt thou not be removed; |

and thou shalt swear, As Jehovah liveth, in truth, in justice, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory. |
また真実と正義と正直とをもって、『主は生きておられる』と誓うならば、万国の民は彼によって祝福を受け、彼によって誇る」。 |

For thus saith Jehovah to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns. |
主はユダの人々とエルサレムに住む人々にこう言われる、「あなたがたの新田を耕せ、いばらの中に種をまくな。 |

Circumcise yourselves to Jehovah, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings. |
ユダの人々とエルサレムに住む人々よ、あなたがたは自ら割礼を行って、主に属するものとなり、自分の心の前の皮を取り去れ。さもないと、あなたがたの悪しき行いのためにさもないと、あなたがたの悪しき行いのためにわたしの怒りが火のように発して燃え、これを消す者はない」。 |

Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry aloud and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the fortified cities. |
ユダに告げ、エルサレムに示して言え、「国中にラッパを吹き、大声に呼ばわって言え、『集まれ、われわれは堅固な町々へ行こう』と。 |

Set up a standard toward Zion: flee for safety, stay not; for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction. |
シオンの方を示す旗を立てよ。避難せよ、とどまってはならない、わたしが北から災と大いなる破滅をこさせるからだ。 |

A lion is gone up from his thicket, and a destroyer of nations; he is on his way, he is gone forth from his place, to make thy land desolate, that thy cities be laid waste, without inhabitant. |
ししはその森から出てのぼり、国々を滅ぼす者は進んできた。彼はあなたの国を荒そうとして、すでにその所から出てきた。あなたの町々は滅ぼされて、住む者もなくなる。 |

For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and wail; for the fierce anger of Jehovah is not turned back from us. |
このために、あなたがたは荒布を身にまとって、悲しみ嘆け。主の激しい怒りが、まだわれわれを離れないからだ」。 |

And it shall come to pass at that day, saith Jehovah, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder. |
主は言われる、「その日、王と君たちとはその心を失い、祭司は驚き、預言者は怪しむ」。 |

Then said I, Ah, Lord Jehovah! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the life. |
そこでわたしは言った、「ああ主なる神よ、まことにあなたはこの民とエルサレムとをまったく欺かれました。『あなたがたは安らかになる』と言われましたが、つるぎが命にまでも及びました」。 |

At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A hot wind from the bare heights in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to winnow, nor to cleanse; |
その時この民とエルサレムとはこう告げられる、「熱い風が荒野の裸の山からわたしの民の娘のほうに吹いてくる。これはあおぎ分けるためではなく、清めるためでもない。 |

a full wind from these shall come for me: now will I also utter judgments against them. |
これよりもなお激しい風がわたしのために吹く。いまわたしは彼らにさばきを告げる」。 |

Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as the whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are ruined. |
見よ、彼は雲のように上ってくる。その戦車はつむじ風のよう、その馬はわしの飛ぶよりも速い。ああ、われわれはわざわいだ、われわれは滅ぼされる。 |

O Jerusalem, wash thy heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thine evil thoughts lodge within thee? |
エルサレムよ、あなたの心の悪を洗い清めよ、そうするならば救われる。悪しき思いはいつまであなたのうちにとどまるのか。 |
| 4-15 |
For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth evil from the hills of Ephraim: |
ダンから告げる声がある、エフライムの山から災を知らせている。 |

make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah. |
国々の民に彼の来ることを告げ、またエルサレムに知らせよ。「攻めかこむ者が遠くの国から来て、ユダの町々にむかってその声をあげる。 |

As keepers of a field are they against her round about, because she hath been rebellious against me, saith Jehovah. |
彼らは畑を守る者のようにこれを攻めかこむ。それはわたしにそむいたからだと、主は言われる。 |

Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness; for it is bitter, for it reacheth unto thy heart. |
あなたの道とその行いとが、あなたの身にこれを招いたのだ。これはあなたの悪の結果で、まことに苦く、あなたの心をつらぬく」。 |

My anguish, my anguish! I am pained at my very heart; my heart is disquieted in me; I cannot hold my peace; because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war. |
ああ、わがはらわたよ、わがはらわたよ、わたしは苦しみにもだえる。ああ、わが心臓の壁よ、わたしの心臓は、はげしく鼓動する。わたしは沈黙を守ることができない、ラッパの声と、戦いの叫びを聞くからである。 |

Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is laid waste: suddenly are my tents destroyed, and my curtains in a moment. |
破壊に次ぐに破壊があり、全地は荒され、わたしの天幕はにわかに破られ、わたしの幕はたちまち破られた。 |

How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet? |
いつまでわたしは旗を見、またラッパの声を聞かなければならないのか。 |

For my people are foolish, they know me not; they are sottish children, and they have no understanding; they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge. |
「わたしの民は愚かであって、わたしを知らない。彼らは愚鈍な子どもらで、悟ることがない。彼らは悪を行うのにさといけれども、善を行うことを知らない」。 |

I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was waste and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. |
わたしは地を見たが、それは形がなく、またむなしかった。天をあおいだが、そこには光がなかった。 |

I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved to and fro. |
わたしは山を見たが、みな震え、もろもろの丘は動いていた。空の鳥はみな飛び去っていた。 |

I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. |
わたしは見たが、人はひとりもおらず、空の鳥はみな飛び去っていた。 |
| 4-26 |
I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful field was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of Jehovah, and before his fierce anger. |
わたしは見たが、豊かな地は荒れ地となり、そのすべての町は、主の前に、その激しい怒りの前に、破壊されていた。 |

For thus saith Jehovah, The whole land shall be a desolation; yet will I not make a full end. |
それは主がこう言われたからだ、「全地は荒れ地となる。しかしわたしはことごとくはこれを滅ぼさない。 |

For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and I have not repented, neither will I turn back from it. |
このために地は悲しみ、上なる天は暗くなる。わたしがすでにこれを言い、これを定めたからだ。わたしは悔いない、またそれをする事をやめない」。 |

Every city fleeth for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they go into the thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city is forsaken, and not a man dwelleth therein. |
どの町の人も、騎兵と射手の叫びのために逃げて森に入り、岩に上る。町はみな捨てられ、そこに住む人はない。 |

And thou, when thou art made desolate, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with scarlet, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou enlargest thine eyes with paint, in vain dost thou make thyself fair; thy lovers despise thee, they seek thy life. |
ああ、荒された女よ、あなたが紅の着物をき、金の飾りで身をよそおい、目を塗って大きくするのは、なんのためか。あなたが美しくしても、むだである。あなたの恋人らはあなたを卑しめ、あなたの命を求めている。 |

For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that gaspeth for breath, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul fainteth before the murderers. |
わたしは子を産む女のような声、ういごを産む女の苦しむような声を聞いた。シオンの娘のあえぐ叫びである。両手を伸べて彼女は言う、「わたしはわざわいだ、わたしを殺す者らの前にわたしは気が遠くなる」と。 |
