Of Egypt: concerning the army of Pharaoh-neco king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah. |
エジプトの事、すなわちユフラテ川のほとりにあるカルケミシの近くにいるエジプトの王パロ・ネコの軍勢の事について。これはユダの王ヨシヤの子エホヤキムの四年に、バビロンの王ネブカデレザルが撃ち破ったものである。その言葉は次のとおりである、 |

Prepare ye the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle. |
「大盾と小盾とを備え、進んで戦え。 |
| 46-4 |
Harness the horses, and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, put on the coats of mail. |
騎兵よ、馬を戦車につなぎ、馬に乗れ。かぶとをかぶって立て。ほこをみがき、よろいを着よ。 |

Wherefore have I seen it? they are dismayed and are turned backward; and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: terror is on every side, saith Jehovah. |
わたしは見たが、何ゆえか彼らは恐れて退き、その勇士たちは打ち敗られ、あわてて逃げて、うしろをふり向くこともしない、――恐れが彼らの周囲にあると主は言われる。 |

Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; in the north by the river Euphrates have they stumbled and fallen. |
足早き者も逃げることができず、勇士ものがれることができない。北の方、ユフラテ川のほとりで彼らはつまずき倒れた。 |

Who is this that riseth up like the Nile, whose waters toss themselves like the rivers? |
あのナイル川のようにわきあがり、川々のように、その水のさかまく者はだれか。 |
| 46-8 |
Egypt riseth up like the Nile, and his waters toss themselves like the rivers: and he saith, I will rise up, I will cover the earth; I will destroy cities and the inhabitants thereof. |
エジプトはナイル川のようにわきあがり、その水は川々のようにさかまく。そしてこれは言う、わたしは上って、地をおおい、町々とそのうちに住む者を滅ぼそう。 |

Go up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men go forth: Cush and Put, that handle the shield; and the Ludim, that handle and bend the bow. |
馬よ、進め、車よ、激しく走れ。勇士よ、盾を取るエチオピヤびとと、プテびとよ、弓を巧みに引くルデびとよ、進み出よ。 |

For that day is a day of the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour and be satiate, and shall drink its fill of their blood; for the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates. |
その日は万軍の神、主の日であって、主があだを報いられる日、その敵にあだをかえされる日だ。つるぎは食べて飽き、彼らの血に酔う。万軍の神、主が、北の地で、ユフラテ川のほとりで、ほふることをなされるからだ。 |

Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt: in vain dost thou use many medicines; there is no healing for thee. |
おとめなるエジプトの娘よ、ギレアデに上って乳香を取れ。あなたは多くの薬を用いても、むだだ。あなたは、いやされることはない。 |

The nations have heard of thy shame, and the earth is full of thy cry; for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, they are fallen both of them together. |
あなたの恥は国々に聞えている、あなたの叫びは地に満ちている。勇士が勇士につまずいて、共に倒れたからである」。 |

The word that Jehovah spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt. |

Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Memphis and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand forth, and prepare thee; for the sword hath devoured round about thee. |
「エジプトで宣べ、ミグドルで告げ示し、またメンピスとタパネスに告げ示して言え、『堅く立って、備えせよ、つるぎがあなたの周囲を、滅ぼし尽すからだ』。 |

Why are thy strong ones swept away? they stood not, because Jehovah did drive them. |
なぜ、アピスはのがれたのか。あなたの雄牛は、なぜ立たなかったのか。それは主がこれを倒されたからだ。 |
| 46-16 |
He made many to stumble, yea, they fell one upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword. |
あなたに属する多くの兵は、つまずいて倒れた。そして互に言った、『立てよ、われわれは、しえたげる者のつるぎを避けて、われわれの民に帰り、故郷の地へ行こう』と。 |

They cried there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath let the appointed time pass by. |
エジプトの王パロの名を、『好機を逸する騒がしい者』と呼べ。 |

As I live, saith the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts, surely like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, so shall he come. |
万軍の主という名の王は言われる、わたしは生きている、彼は山々のうちのタボルのように、海のほとりのカルメルのように来り臨む。 |

O thou daughter that dwellest in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity; for Memphis shall become a desolation, and shall be burnt up, without inhabitant. |
エジプトに住む民よ、捕われのために荷物を備えよ。メンピスは荒れ地となり、廃虚となって住む人もなくなる。 |

Egypt is a very fair heifer; but destruction out of the north is come, it is come. |
エジプトは美しい雌の子牛だ、しかし北から、牛ばえが来て、それにとまった。 |
| 46-21 |
Also her hired men in the midst of her are like calves of the stall; for they also are turned back, they are fled away together, they did not stand: for the day of their calamity is come upon them, the time of their visitation. |
そのうちにいる雇兵でさえ、肥えた子牛のようだ。彼らはふり返って共に逃げ、立つことをしなかった。彼らの災難の日、その罰せられる時が来たからだ。 |

The sound thereof shall go like the serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood. |
彼は逃げ去るへびのような音をたてる。その敵が軍勢を率いて彼に臨み、きこりのように、おのをもって来るからだ。 |

They shall cut down her forest, saith Jehovah, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the locusts, and are innumerable. |
彼らは彼の林がいかに入り込みがたくとも、それを切り倒す。彼らはいなごよりも多く、数えがたいからであると、主は言われる。 |
| 46-24 |
The daughter of Egypt shall be put to shame; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north. |

Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saith: Behold, I will punish Amon of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with her gods, and her kings; even Pharaoh, and them that trust in him: |
万軍の主、イスラエルの神は言われた、「見よ、わたしはテーベのアモンと、パロと、エジプトとその神々とその王たち、すなわちパロと彼を頼む者とを罰する。 |

and I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants; and afterwards it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith Jehovah. |
わたしは彼らを、その命を求める者の手と、バビロンの王ネブカデレザルの手と、その家来たちの手に渡す。その後、エジプトは昔のように人の住む所となると、主は言われる。 |

But fear not thou, O Jacob my servant, neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid. |
わたしのしもべヤコブよ、恐れることはない、イスラエルよ、驚くことはない。見よ、わたしがあなたを遠くから救い、あなたの子孫をその捕え移された地から救うからだ。ヤコブは帰ってきて、おだやかに、安らかになり、彼を恐れさせる者はない。 |

Fear not thou, O Jacob my servant, saith Jehovah; for I am with thee: for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee; but I will not make a full end of thee, but I will correct thee in measure, and will in no wise leave thee unpunished. |
主は言われる、わたしのしもべヤコブよ、恐れることはない、わたしが共にいるからだ。わたしはあなたを追いやった国々をことごとく滅ぼし尽す。しかしあなたを滅ぼし尽すことはしない。わたしは正しい道に従って、あなたを懲らしめる、決して罰しないではおかない」。 |
