9-1 Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people! ああ、わたしの頭が水となり、わたしの目が涙の泉となればよいのに。そうすれば、わたしは民の娘の殺された者のために昼も夜も嘆くことができる。
9-2 Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging-place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men. ああ、わたしが荒野に、隊商の宿を得ることができればよいのに。そうすれば、わたしは民を離れて去って行くことができる。彼らはみな姦淫する者、不信のともがらだからである。
9-3 And they bend their tongue, as it were their bow, for falsehood; and they are grown strong in the land, but not for truth: for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith Jehovah. 彼らは弓をひくように、その舌を曲げる。真実ではなく、偽りがこの地に強くなった。彼らは悪より悪に進み、またわたしを知らないと、主は言われる。
9-4 Take ye heed every one of his neighbor, and trust ye not in any brother; for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will go about with slanders. あなたがたはおのおの隣り人に気をつけよ。どの兄弟をも信じてはならない。兄弟はみな、押しのける者であり、隣り人はみな、ののしって歩く者だからである。
9-5 And they will deceive every one his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies; they weary themselves to commit iniquity. 人はみな、その隣り人を欺き、真実を言う者はない。彼らは自分の舌に偽りを言うことを教え、悪を行い、疲れて悔い改めるいとまもなく、
9-6 Thy habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith Jehovah. しえたげに、しえたげを積み重ね、偽りに偽りを積み重ね、わたしを知ることを拒んでいると、主は言われる。
9-7 Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how else should I do, because of the daughter of my people? それゆえ万軍の主はこう言われる、「見よ、わたしは彼らを溶かし、試みる。このほか、わが民をどうすることができよう。
9-8 Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaketh deceit: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he layeth wait for him. 彼らの舌は殺す矢のようだ、それは偽りを言う。その口ではおのおの隣り人におだやかに語るが、その心では彼を待ち伏せる計りごとを立てる。
9-9 Shall I not visit them for these things? saith Jehovah; shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? 主は言われる、これらのことのために、わたしが彼らを罰しないだろうか。わたしがこのような民にあだを返さないだろうか。
9-10 For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the pastures of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none passeth through; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the birds of the heavens and the beasts are fled, they are gone. 山のために泣き叫び、野の牧場のために悲しめ。これらは荒れすたれて、通り過ぎる人もない。ここには牛、羊の鳴く声も聞えず、空の鳥も獣も皆逃げ去った。
9-11 And I will make Jerusalem heaps, a dwelling-place of jackals; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant. わたしはエルサレムを荒塚とし、山犬の巣とする。またユダの町々を荒して、住む人もない所とする」。
9-12 Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken, that he may declare it? wherefore is the land perished and burned up like a wilderness, so that none passeth through? 知恵があって、これを悟ることのできる人はだれか。主の口の言葉をうけて、それを示す人はだれか。この地が滅ぼされて荒野のようになり、通り過ぎる人もなくなったのはどういうわけか。
9-13 And Jehovah saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein, 主は言われる、「それは彼らの前にわたしが立てたおきてを彼らが捨てて、わたしの声に聞き従わず、そのとおりに歩かなかったからである。
9-14 but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Baalim, which their fathers taught them; 彼らは強情に自分の心に従い、また先祖の教えたようにバアルに従った。
9-15 therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink. それゆえ万軍の主、イスラエルの神はこう言われる、見よ、わたしはこの民に、にがよもぎを食べさせ、毒の水を飲ませ、
9-16 I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them. 彼らも、その先祖たちも知らなかった国びとのうちに彼らを散らし、また彼らを滅ぼし尽すまで、そのうしろに、つるぎをつかわす」。
9-17 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the skilful women, that they may come: 万軍の主はこう言われる、「よく考えて、泣き女を呼べ。また人をつかわして巧みな女を招け。
9-18 and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters. 彼らに急いでこさせ、われわれのために泣き悲しませて、われわれの目に涙をこぼさせ、まぶたから水をあふれさせよ。
9-19 For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we ruined! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings. シオンから悲しみの声が聞える。それは言う、『ああ、われわれは滅ぼされ、いたく、はずかしめられている。われわれはその地を去り、彼らがわれわれのすみかをこわしたからだ』」。
9-20 Yet hear the word of Jehovah, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth; and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbor lamentation. 女たちよ、主の言葉を聞け。あなたがたの耳に、その口の言葉をいれよ。あなたがたの娘に悲しみの歌を教え、おのおのその隣り人に哀悼の歌を教えよ。
9-21 For death is come up into our windows, it is entered into our palaces; to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets. 死がわれわれの窓に上って来、われわれの邸宅の中にはいり、ちまたにいる子どもらを絶やし、広場にいる若い人たちを殺そうとしているからだ。
9-22 Speak, Thus saith Jehovah, The dead bodies of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman; and none shall gather them. あなたはこう言いなさい、「主は言われる、『人の死体が糞土のように、野に倒れているようになり、また刈入れする人のうしろに残って、だれも集めることをしない束のようになる』」。
9-23 Thus saith Jehovah, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches; 主はこう言われる、「知恵ある人はその知恵を誇ってはならない。力ある人はその力を誇ってはならない。富める者はその富を誇ってはならない。
9-24 but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he hath understanding, and knoweth me, that I am Jehovah who exerciseth lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith Jehovah. 誇る者はこれを誇とせよ。すなわち、さとくあって、わたしを知っていること、わたしが主であって、地に、いつくしみと公平と正義を行っている者であることを知ることがそれである。わたしはこれらの事を喜ぶと、主は言われる」。
9-25 Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will punish all them that are circumcised in their uncircumcision: 主は言われる、「見よ、このような日が来る。その日には、割礼をうけても、心に割礼をうけていないすべての人をわたしは罰する。
9-26 Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that have the corners of their hair cut off, that dwell in the wilderness; for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart. エジプト、ユダ、エドム、アンモンの人々、モアブ、および野にいて、髪の毛のすみずみをそる人々はそれである。これらの国びとはみな割礼をうけていない者であり、イスラエルの全家もみな心に割礼をうけていない者である」。
