Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them; |
エルサレムの王アドニゼデクは、ヨシュアがアイを攻め取って、それを全く滅ぼし、さきにエリコとその王とにしたように、アイとその王にもしたこと、またギベオンの住民が、イスラエルと和を講じて、そのうちにおることを聞き、 |

that they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty. |
大いに恐れた。それは、ギベオンが大きな町であって、王の都にもひとしいものであり、またアイより大きくて、そのうちの人々が、すべて強かったからである。 |

Wherefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying, |
それでエルサレムの王アドニゼデクは、ヘブロンの王ホハム、ヤルムテの王ピラム、ラキシの王ヤピア、およびエグロンの王デビルに人をつかわして言った、 |
| 10-4 |
Come up unto me, and help me, and let us smite Gibeon; for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel. |
「わたしの所に上ってきて、わたしを助けてください。われわれはギベオンを撃ちましょう。ギベオンはヨシュアおよびイスラエルの人々と和を講じたからです」。 |

Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped against Gibeon, and made war against it. |
アモリびとの五人の王、すなわちエルサレムの王、ヘブロンの王、ヤルムテの王、ラキシの王、およびエグロンの王は兵を集め、そのすべての軍勢を率いて上ってきて、ギベオンに向かって陣を取り、それを攻めて戦った。 |

And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill-country are gathered together against us. |
ギベオンの人々は、ギルガルの陣営に人をつかわし、ヨシュアに言った、「あなたの手を引かないで、しもべどもを助けてください。早く、われわれの所に上ってきて、われわれを救い、助けてください。山地に住むアモリびとの王たちがみな集まって、われわれを攻めるからです」。 |

So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor. |
そこでヨシュアはすべてのいくさびとと、すべての大勇士を率いて、ギルガルから上って行った。 |
| 10-8 |
And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thy hands; there shall not a man of them stand before thee. |
その時、主はヨシュアに言われた、「彼らを恐れてはならない。わたしが彼らをあなたの手にわたしたからである。彼らのうちには、あなたに当ることのできるものは、ひとりもないであろう」。 |

Joshua therefore came upon them suddenly; for he went up from Gilgal all the night. |
ヨシュアは、ギルガルから、よもすがら進みのぼって、にわかに彼らに攻めよせたところ、 |
| 10-10 |
And Jehovah discomfited them before Israel, and he slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them by the way of the ascent of Beth-horon, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah. |
主は彼らを、イスラエルの前に、恐れあわてさせられたので、イスラエルはギベオンで彼らをおびただしく撃ち殺し、ベテホロンの上り坂をとおって逃げる彼らを、アゼカとマッケダまで追撃した。 |
| 10-11 |
And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, that Jehovah cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more who died with the hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword. |
彼らがイスラエルの前から逃げ走って、ベテホロンの下り坂をおりていた時、主は天から彼らの上に大石を降らし、アゼカにいたるまでもそうされたので、多くの人々が死んだ。イスラエルの人々がつるぎをもって殺したものよりも、雹に打たれて死んだもののほうが多かった。 |
| 10-12 |
Then spake Joshua to Jehovah in the day when Jehovah delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel,Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon;And thou, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon. |
主がアモリびとをイスラエルの人々にわたされた日に、ヨシュアはイスラエルの人々の前で主にむかって言った、「日よ、ギベオンの上にとどまれ、月よ、アヤロンの谷にやすらえ」。 |
| 10-13 |
And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed,Until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies.Is not this written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. |
民がその敵を撃ち破るまで、日はとどまり、月は動かなかった。これはヤシャルの書にしるされているではないか。日が天の中空にとどまって、急いで没しなかったこと、おおよそ一日であった。 |
| 10-14 |
And there was no day like that before it or after it, that Jehovah hearkened unto the voice of a man: for Jehovah fought for Israel. |
これより先にも、あとにも、主がこのように人の言葉を聞きいれられた日は一日もなかった。主がイスラエルのために戦われたからである。 |
| 10-15 |
And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal. |
こうしてヨシュアはイスラエルのすべての人と共にギルガルの陣営に帰った。 |
| 10-16 |
And these five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah. |
かの五人の王たちは逃げて行って、マッケダのほら穴に隠れたが、 |
| 10-17 |
And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah. |
五人の王たちがマッケダのほら穴にかくれているのが見つかったと、ヨシュアに告げる者があったので、 |
| 10-18 |
And Joshua said, Roll great stones unto the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to keep them: |
ヨシュアは言った、「ほら穴の口に大石をころがし、そのそばに人を置いて、守らせなさい。 |
| 10-19 |
but stay not ye; pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for Jehovah your God hath delivered them into your hand. |
ただし、あなたがたは、そこにとどまらないで、敵のあとを追い、そのしんがりを撃ち、彼らをその町にはいらせてはならない。あなたがたの神、主が彼らをあなたがたの手に渡されたからである」。 |
| 10-20 |
And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, and the remnant which remained of them had entered into the fortified cities, |
ヨシュアとイスラエルの人々は、大いに彼らを撃ち殺し、ついに彼らを滅ぼしつくしたが、彼らのうちのがれて生き残った者どもは、堅固な町々に逃げこんだので、 |
| 10-21 |
that all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel. |
民はみな安らかにマッケダの陣営のヨシュアのもとに帰ってきたが、イスラエルの人々にむかって舌を鳴らす者はひとりもなかった。 |
| 10-22 |
Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring forth those five kings unto me out of the cave. |
その時ヨシュアは言った、「ほら穴の口を開いて、ほら穴から、かの五人の王たちを、わたしのもとにひき出しなさい」。 |
| 10-23 |
And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon. |
やがて、そのようにして、かの五人の王たち、すなわち、エルサレムの王、ヘブロンの王、ヤルムテの王、ラキシの王、およびエグロンの王を、ほら穴から彼のもとにひき出した。 |
| 10-24 |
And it came to pass, when they brought forth those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the chiefs of the men of war that went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them. |
この王たちをヨシュアのもとにひき出した時、ヨシュアはイスラエルのすべての人々を呼び寄せ、自分と共に行ったいくさびとの長たちに言った、「近寄って、この王たちのくびに足をかけなさい」。そこで近寄って、その王たちのくびに足をかけたので、 |
| 10-25 |
And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed; be strong and of good courage: for thus shall Jehovah do to all your enemies against whom ye fight. 2 |
ヨシュアは彼らに言った、「恐れおののいてはならない。強くまた雄々しくあれ。あなたがたが攻めて戦うすべての敵には、主がこのようにされるのである」。 |
| 10-26 |
And afterward Joshua smote them, and put them to death, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening. |
そして後ヨシュアは彼らを撃って死なせ、五本の木にかけて、夕暮れまで木の上にさらして置いたが、 |
| 10-27 |
And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had hidden themselves, and laid great stones on the mouth of the cave, unto this very day. |
日の入るころになって、ヨシュアが命じたので、これを木からおろし、彼らが隠れていたほら穴に投げ入れ、ほら穴の口に大石を置いた。これは今日まで残っている。 |

And Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof: he utterly destroyed them and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining; and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done unto the king of Jericho. |
その日ヨシュアはマッケダを取り、つるぎをもって、それと、その王とを撃ち、その中のすべての人を、ことごとく滅ぼして、ひとりも残さず、エリコの王にしたように、マッケダの王にもした。 |
| 10-29 |
And Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah: |
こうしてヨシュアはイスラエルのすべての人を率いて、マッケダからリブナに進み、リブナを攻めて戦った。 |
| 10-30 |
and Jehovah delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining in it; and he did unto the king thereof as he had done unto the king of Jericho. |
主が、それと、その王をも、イスラエルの手に渡されたので、つるぎをもって、それと、その中のすべての人を撃ち滅ぼして、ひとりもその中に残さず、エリコの王にしたように、その王にもした。 |
| 10-31 |
And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it: |
ヨシュアはまたイスラエルのすべての人を率いて、リブナからラキシに進み、これに向かって陣をしき、攻め戦った。 |
| 10-32 |
and Jehovah delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel; and he took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah. |
主がラキシをイスラエルの手に渡されたので、ふつか目にこれを取り、つるぎをもって、それと、その中のすべての人を撃ち滅ぼした。すべてリブナにしたとおりであった。 |
| 10-33 |
Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining. |
その時、ゲゼルの王ホラムが、ラキシを助けるために上ってきたので、ヨシュアは彼と、その民とを撃ち滅ぼして、ついにひとりも残さなかった。 |
| 10-34 |
And Joshua passed from Lachish, and all Israel with him, unto Eglon; and they encamped against it, and fought against it; |
ヨシュアはまたイスラエルのすべての人を率いて、ラキシからエグロンに進み、これに向かって陣をしき、攻め戦った。 |
| 10-35 |
and they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword; and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish. |
その日これを取り、つるぎをもって、これを撃ち、その中のすべての人を、ことごとくその日に滅ぼした。すべてラキシにしたとおりであった。 |
| 10-36 |
And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it: |
ヨシュアはまたイスラエルのすべての人を率いて、エグロンからヘブロンに進み上り、これを攻めて戦い、 |
| 10-37 |
and they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but he utterly destroyed it, and all the souls that were therein. |
それを取って、それと、その王、およびそのすべての町々と、その中のすべての人を、つるぎをもって撃ち滅ぼし、ひとりも残さなかった。すべてエグロンにしたとおりであった。すなわち、それとその中のすべての人を、ことごとく滅ぼした。 |
| 10-38 |
And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir, and fought against it: |
またヨシュアはイスラエルのすべての人を率いて、デビルへひきかえし、これを攻めて戦い、 |
| 10-39 |
and he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to the king thereof. |
それと、その王、およびそのすべての町々を取り、つるぎをもってそれを撃ち、その中のすべての人を、ことごとく滅ぼし、ひとりも残さなかった。彼がデビルと、その王にしたことは、ヘブロンにしたとおりであり、またリブナと、その王にしたとおりであった。 |
| 10-40 |
So Joshua smote all the land, the hill-country, and the South, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, commanded. |
こうしてヨシュアはその地の全部、すなわち、山地、ネゲブ、平地、および山腹の地と、そのすべての王たちを撃ち滅ぼして、ひとりも残さず、すべて息のあるものは、ことごとく滅ぼした。イスラエルの神、主が命じられたとおりであった。 |
| 10-41 |
And Joshua smote them from Kadesh-barnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon. |
ヨシュアはカデシ・バルネアからガザまでの国々、およびゴセンの全地を撃ち滅ぼして、ギベオンにまで及んだ。 |
| 10-42 |
And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because Jehovah, the God of Israel, fought for Israel. |
イスラエルの神、主がイスラエルのために戦われたので、ヨシュアはこれらすべての王たちと、その地をいちどきに取った。 |
| 10-43 |
And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal. |
そしてヨシュアはイスラエルのすべての人を率いて、ギルガルの陣営に帰った。 |
