11-1 And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard thereof, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph, ハゾルの王ヤビンは、これを聞いて、マドンの王ヨバブ、シムロンの王、およびアクサフの王、
11-2 and to the kings that were on the north, in the hill-country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west, また北の山地、キンネロテの南のアラバ、平地、西の方のドルの高地におる王たち、
11-3 to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill-country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah. すなわち、東西のカナンびと、アモリびと、ヘテびと、ペリジびと、山地のエブスびと、ミヅパの地にあるヘルモンのふもとのヒビびとに使者をつかわした。
11-4 And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea-shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many. そして彼らは、そのすべての軍勢を率いて出てきた。その大軍は浜べの砂のように数多く、馬と戦車も、ひじょうに多かった。
11-5 And all these kings met together; and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel. これらの王たちはみな軍を集め、進んできて、共にメロムの水のほとりに陣をしき、イスラエルと戦おうとした。
11-6 And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them; for to-morrow at this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hock their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. その時、主はヨシュアに言われた、「彼らのゆえに恐れてはならない。あすの今ごろ、わたしは彼らを皆イスラエルに渡して、ことごとく殺させるであろう。あなたは彼らの馬の足の筋を切り、戦車を火で焼かなければならない」。
11-7 So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell upon them. そこでヨシュアは、すべてのいくさびとを率いて、にわかにメロムの水のほとりにおし寄せ、彼らを襲った。
11-8 And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they smote them, and chased them unto great Sidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining. 主は彼らをイスラエルの手に渡されたので、これを撃ち破り、大シドンおよびミスレポテ・マイムまで、これを追撃し、東の方では、ミヅパの谷まで彼らを追い、ついにひとりも残さず撃ちとった。
11-9 And Joshua did unto them as Jehovah bade him: he hocked their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire. ヨシュアは主が命じられたとおりに彼らに行い、彼らの馬の足の筋を切り、戦車を火で焼いた。
11-10 And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms. その時、ヨシュアはひきかえして、ハゾルを取り、つるぎをもって、その王を撃った。ハゾルは昔、これらすべての国々の盟主であったからである。
11-11 And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was none left that breathed: and he burnt Hazor with fire. 彼らはつるぎをもって、その中のすべての人を撃ち、ことごとくそれを滅ぼし、息のあるものは、ひとりも残さなかった。そして火をもってハゾルを焼いた。
11-12 And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and he smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded. ヨシュアはこれらの王たちのすべての町々、およびその諸王を取り、つるぎをもって、これを撃ち、ことごとく滅ぼした。主のしもべモーセが命じたとおりであった。
11-13 But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn. ただし、丘の上に立っている町々をイスラエルは焼かなかった。ヨシュアはただハゾルだけを焼いた。
11-14 And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any that breathed. これらの町のすべてのぶんどり物と家畜とは、イスラエルの人々が戦利品として取ったが、人はみなつるぎをもって、滅ぼし尽し、息のあるものは、ひとりも残さなかった。
11-15 As Jehovah commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua: and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that Jehovah commanded Moses. 主がそのしもべモーセに命じられたように、モーセはヨシュアに命じたが、ヨシュアはそのとおりにおこなった。すべて主がモーセに命じられたことで、ヨシュアが行わなかったことは一つもなかった。
11-16 So Joshua took all that land, the hill-country, and all the South, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill-country of Israel, and the lowland of the same; こうしてヨシュアはその全地、すなわち、山地、ネゲブの全地、ゴセンの全地、平地、アラバならびにイスラエルの山地と平地を取り、
11-17 from mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and put them to death. セイルへ上って行く道のハラク山から、ヘルモン山のふもとのレバノンの谷にあるバアルガデまでを獲た。そしてそれらの王たちを、ことごとく捕えて、撃ち殺した。
11-18 oshua made war a long time with all those kings. ヨシュアはこれらすべての王たちと、長いあいだ戦った。
11-19 There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: they took all in battle. ギベオンの住民ヒビびとのほかには、イスラエルの人々と和を講じた町は一つもなかった。町々はみな戦争をして、攻め取ったものであった。
11-20 For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses. 彼らが心をかたくなにして、イスラエルに攻めよせたのは、もともと主がそうさせられたので、彼らがのろわれた者となり、あわれみを受けず、ことごとく滅ぼされるためであった。主がモーセに命じられたとおりである。
11-21 And Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel: Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities. その時、ヨシュアはまた行って、山地、ヘブロン、デビル、アナブ、ユダのすべての山地、イスラエルのすべての山地から、アナクびとを断ち、彼らの町々をも共に滅ぼした。
11-22 There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain. それでイスラエルの人々の地に、アナクびとは、ひとりもいなくなった。ただガサ、ガテ、アシドドには、少し残っているだけであった。
11-23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah spake unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land had rest from war. こうしてヨシュアはその地を、ことごとく取った。すべて主がモーセに告げられたとおりである。そしてヨシュアはイスラエルの部族にそれぞれの分を与えて、嗣業とさせた。こうしてその地に戦争はやんだ。
