22-1 Then Joshua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, 時にヨシュアは、ルベンびと、ガドびと、およびマナセの部族の半ばを呼び集めて、
22-2 and said unto them, Ye have kept all that Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, and have hearkened unto my voice in all that I commanded you: 言った、「あなたがたは主のしもべモーセが命じたことを、ことごとく守り、またわたしの命じたすべての事にも、わたしの言葉に聞きしたがいました。
22-3 ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of Jehovah your God. 今日まで長い年月の間、あなたがたの兄弟たちを捨てず、あなたがたの神、主の命令を、よく守ってきました。
22-4 And now Jehovah your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as he spake unto them: therefore now turn ye, and get you unto your tents, unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you beyond the Jordan. 今はすでに、あなたがたの神、主が、あなたがたの兄弟たちに、先に約束されたとおり、安息を賜わるようになりました。それで、あなたがたは身を返して、主のしもべモーセが、あなたがたに与えたヨルダンの向こう側の所有の地に行き、自分たちの天幕に帰りなさい。
22-5 Only take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, to love Jehovah your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. ただ主のしもべモーセが、あなたがたに命じた戒めと、律法とを慎んで行い、あなたがたの神、主を愛し、そのすべての道に歩み、その命令を守って、主につき従い、心をつくし、精神をつくして、主に仕えなさい」。
22-6 So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away; and they went unto their tents. そしてヨシュアが彼らを祝福して去らせたので、彼らはその天幕に帰った。
22-7 Now to the one half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given inheritance in Bashan; but unto the other half gave Joshua among their brethren beyond the Jordan westward; moreover when Joshua sent them away unto their tents, he blessed them, マナセの部族の半ばには、すでにモーセがバシャンで所有地を与えたが、他の半ばには、ヨシュアがヨルダンのこちら側、西の方で、その兄弟たちのうちに、所有地を与えた。ヨシュアは、彼らをその天幕に送りかえす時、彼らを祝福して、
22-8 and spake unto them, saying, Return with much wealth unto your tents, and with very much cattle, with silver, and with gold, and with brass, and with iron, and with very much raiment: divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren. 言った、「あなたがたは多くの貨財と、おびただしい数の家畜と、金、銀、青銅、鉄、および多くの衣服を持って天幕に帰り、敵から獲たぶんどり物を兄弟たちに分けなさい」。
22-9 And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the land of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the commandment of Jehovah by Moses. こうしてルベンの子孫、ガドの子孫、およびマナセの部族の半ばは、主がモーセによって命じられたように、すでに自分の所有地となっているギレアデの地に行こうと、カナンの地のシロで、イスラエルの人々と別れて帰って行った。
22-10 And when they came unto the region about the Jordan, that is in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, a great altar to look upon. ルベンの子孫、ガドの子孫、およびマナセの部族の半ばが、カナンの地のヨルダンのほとりにきた時、その所で、ヨルダンの岸べに一つの祭壇を築いた。それは大きくて遠くから見える祭壇であった。
22-11 And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar in the forefront of the land of Canaan, in the region about the Jordan, on the side that pertaineth to the children of Israel. イスラエルの人々は、「ルベンの子孫、ガドの子孫、およびマナセの部族の半ばが、カナンの地の国境、ヨルダンのほとりのイスラエルの人々に属する方で、一つの祭壇を築いた」といううわさを聞いた。
22-12 And when the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up against them to war. イスラエルの人々が、それを聞くとひとしく、イスラエルの人々の全会衆はシロに集まって、彼らの所に攻め上ろうとした。
22-13 And the children of Israel sent unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, そしてイスラエルの人々は、祭司エレアザルの子ピネハスをギレアデの地のルベンの子孫、ガドの子孫、およびマナセの半部族の所につかわし、
22-14 and with him ten princes, one prince of a fathers’ house for each of the tribes of Israel; and they were every one of them head of their fathers’ houses among the thousands of Israel. イスラエルの各部族のうちから、父祖の家のつかさ、ひとりずつをあげて、合わせて十人のつかさたちを、彼と共に行かせた。これらはみなイスラエルの氏族のうちで、父祖の家のかしらたる人々であった。
22-15 And they came unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, unto the land of Gilead, and they spake with them, saying, 彼らはギレアデの地に行き、ルベンの子孫、ガドの子孫、およびマナセの半部族に語って言った、
22-16 Thus saith the whole congregation of Jehovah, What trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following Jehovah, in that ye have builded you an altar, to rebel this day against Jehovah? 「主の全会衆はこう言います、『あなたがたがイスラエルの神にむかって、とがを犯し、今日、ひるがえって主に従うことをやめ、自分のために一つの祭壇を築いて、今日、主にそむこうとするのは何事か。
22-17 Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves unto this day, although there came a plague upon the congregation of Jehovah, ペオルで犯した罪で、なお足りないとするのか。それがために主の会衆に災が下ったが、われわれは今日もなお、その罪から清められていない。
22-18 that ye must turn away this day from following Jehovah? and it will be, seeing ye rebel to-day against Jehovah, that to-morrow he will be wroth with the whole congregation of Israel. しかもあなたがたは、今日、ひるがえって主に従うことをやめようとするのか。あなたがたが、きょう、主にそむくならば、あす、主はイスラエルの全会衆にむかって怒られるであろう。
22-19 Howbeit, if the land of your possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of Jehovah, wherein Jehovah’s tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among us: but rebel not against Jehovah, nor rebel against us, in building you an altar besides the altar of Jehovah our God. もしあなたがたの所有の地が清くないのであれば、主の幕屋の立っている主の所有の地に渡ってきて、われわれのうちに、所有の地を獲なさい。ただ、われわれの神、主の祭壇のほかに、自分のために祭壇を築いて、主にそむき、またわれわれをそむく者とならせないでください。
22-20 Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity. ゼラの子アカンは、のろわれた物について、とがを犯し、それがためイスラエルの全会衆に、怒りが臨んだではないか。またその罪によって滅びた者は、彼ひとりではなかった』」。
22-21 Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh answered, and spake unto the heads of the thousands of Israel, その時、ルベンの子孫、ガドの子孫、およびマナセの半部族は、イスラエルの氏族のかしらたちに答えて言った、
22-22 The Mighty One, God, Jehovah, the Mighty One, God, Jehovah, he knoweth; and Israel he shall know: if it be in rebellion, or if in trespass against Jehovah (save thou us not this day,) 「力ある者、神、主。力ある者、神、主。主は知ろしめす。イスラエルもまた知らなければならない。もしそれがそむくことであり、あるいは主に罪を犯すことであるならば、きょう、われわれをゆるさないでください。
22-23 that we have built us an altar to turn away from following Jehovah; or if to offer thereon burnt-offering or meal-offering, or if to offer sacrifices of peace-offerings thereon, let Jehovah himself require it; われわれが祭壇を築いたことが、もし主に従うことをやめるためであり、またその上に、燔祭、素祭をささげるためであり、あるいはまたその上に、酬恩祭の犠牲をささげるためであったならば、主みずから、その罪を問いただしてください。
22-24 and if we have not rather out of carefulness done this, and of purpose, saying, In time to come your children might speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with Jehovah, the God of Israel? しかし、われわれは次のことを考えてしたのです。すなわち、のちの日になって、あなたがたの子孫が、われわれの子孫にむかって言うことがあるかも知れません、『あなたがたは、イスラエルの神、主と、なんの関係があるのですか。
22-25 for Jehovah hath made the Jordan a border between us and you, ye children of Reuben and children of Gad; ye have no portion in Jehovah: so might your children make our children cease from fearing Jehovah. ルベンの子孫と、ガドの子孫よ、主は、あなたがたと、われわれとの間に、ヨルダンを境とされました。あなたがたは主の民の特権がありません』。こう言って、あなたがたの子孫が、われわれの子孫に、主を拝むことをやめさせるかも知れないので、
22-26 Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrifice: われわれは言いました、『さあ、われわれは一つの祭壇を築こう。燔祭のためではなく、また犠牲のためでもなく、
22-27 but it shall be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we may do the service of Jehovah before him with our burnt-offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace-offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no portion in Jehovah. ただあなたがたと、われわれとの間、およびわれわれの後の子孫の間に、証拠とならせて、われわれが、燔祭と犠牲、および酬恩祭をもって、主の前で、主につとめをするためである。こうすれば、のちの日になって、あなたがたの子孫が、われわれの子孫に、「あなたがたは主の民の特権がありません」とは言わないであろう』。
22-28 Therefore said we, It shall be, when they so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we shall say, Behold the pattern of the altar of Jehovah, which our fathers made, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrifice; but it is a witness between us and you. またわれわれは言いました、『のちの日に、われわれ、またわれわれの子孫が、もしそのようなことを言われるならば、その時、われわれは言おう、「われわれの先祖が造った主の祭壇の型をごらんなさい。これは燔祭のためではなく、また犠牲のためでもなく、あなたがたと、われわれとの間の証拠である」。
22-29 Far be it from us that we should rebel against Jehovah, and turn away this day from following Jehovah, to build an altar for burnt-offering, for meal-offering, or for sacrifice, besides the altar of Jehovah our God that is before his tabernacle. 主にそむき、ひるがえって今日、主に従うことをやめて、われわれの神、主の幕屋の前にある祭壇のほかに、燔祭、素祭、または犠牲をささげるための祭壇を築くようなことは、決していたしません』」。
22-30 And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation, even the heads of the thousands of Israel that were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spake, it pleased them well. 祭司ピネハス、および会衆のつかさたち、すなわち彼と共に行ったイスラエルの氏族のかしらたちは、ルベンの子孫、ガドの子孫、およびマナセの子孫が語った言葉を聞いて、それを良しとした。
22-31 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, This day we know that Jehovah is in the midst of us, because ye have not committed this trespass against Jehovah: now have ye delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of Jehovah. そして祭司エレアザルの子ピネハスは、ルベンの子孫、ガドの子孫、およびマナセの子孫に言った、「今日、われわれは、主がわれわれのうちにいますことを知った。あなたがたが、主にむかって、このとがを犯さなかったからである。あなたがたは今、イスラエルの人々を、主の手から救い出したのです」。
22-32 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again. こうして祭司エレアザルの子ピネハスと、つかさたちは、ルベンの子孫、およびガドの子孫に別れて、ギレアデの地からカナンの地に帰り、イスラエルの人々のところに行って復命したので、
22-33 And the thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and spake no more of going up against them to war, to destroy the land wherein the children of Reuben and the children of Gad dwelt. イスラエルの人々はそれを良しとした。そしてイスラエルの人々は神をほめたたえ、ルベンの子孫、およびガドの子孫の住んでいる国を滅ぼすために攻め上ろうとは、もはや言わなかった。
22-34 And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar Ed: For, said they, it is a witness between us that Jehovah is God. ルベンの子孫とガドの子孫は、その祭壇を「あかし」と名づけて言った、「これは、われわれの間にあって、主が神にいますというあかしをするものである」。
