| 24-1 |
And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God. |
ヨシュアは、イスラエルのすべての部族をシケムに集め、イスラエルの長老、かしら、さばきびと、つかさたちを召し寄せて、共に神の前に進み出た。 |

And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt of old time beyond the River, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nahor: and they served other gods. |
そしてヨシュアはすべての民に言った、「イスラエルの神、主は、こう仰せられる、『あなたがたの先祖たち、すなわちアブラハムの父、ナホルの父テラは、昔、ユフラテ川の向こうに住み、みな、ほかの神々に仕えていたが、 |
| 24-3 |
And I took your father Abraham from beyond the River, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac. |
わたしは、あなたがたの先祖アブラハムを、川の向こうから連れ出して、カナンの全地を導き通り、その子孫を増した。わたしは彼にイサクを与え、 |

And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it: and Jacob and his children went down into Egypt. |
イサクにヤコブとエサウを与え、エサウにはセイルの山地を与えて、所有とさせたが、ヤコブとその子供たちはエジプトに下った。 |

And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did in the midst thereof: and afterward I brought you out. |
わたしはモーセとアロンをつかわし、またエジプトのうちに不思議をおこなって、これに災を下し、その後あなたがたを導き出した。 |
| 24-6 |
And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and with horsemen unto the Red Sea. |
わたしはあなたがたの父たちを、エジプトから導き出し、あなたがたが海にきたとき、エジプトびとは、戦車と騎兵とをもって、あなたがたの父たちを紅海に追ってきた。 |
| 24-7 |
And when they cried out unto Jehovah, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes saw what I did in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness many days. |
そのとき、あなたがたの父たちが主に呼ばわったので、主は暗やみをあなたがたとエジプトびととの間に置き、海を彼らの上に傾けて彼らをおおわれた。あなたがたは、わたしがエジプトでしたことを目で見た。そして長い間、荒野に住んでいた。 |
| 24-8 |
And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, that dwelt beyond the Jordan: and they fought with you; and I gave them into your hand, and ye possessed their land; and I destroyed them from before you. |
わたしはまたヨルダンの向こう側に住んでいたアモリびとの地に、あなたがたを導き入れた。彼らはあなたがたと戦ったので、わたしは彼らをあなたがたの手に渡して、彼らの地を獲させ、彼らをあなたがたの前から滅ぼし去った。 |

Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and fought against Israel: and he sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you; |

| 24-10 |
but I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand. |

| 24-11 |
And ye went over the Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I delivered them into your hand. |
そしてあなたがたは、ヨルダンを渡って、エリコにきたが、エリコの人々はあなたがたと戦い、アモリびと、ペリジびと、カナンびと、ヘテびと、ギルガシびと、ヒビびと、およびエブスびとも、あなたがたと戦ったが、わたしは彼らをあなたがたの手に渡した。 |
| 24-12 |
And I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; not with thy sword, nor with thy bow. |
わたしは、あなたがたの前に、くまばちを送って、あのアモリびとのふたりの王を、あなたがたの前から追い払った。これはあなたがたのつるぎ、または、あなたがたの弓によってではなかった。 |
| 24-13 |
And I gave you a land whereon thou hadst not labored, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell therein; of vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat. |
そしてわたしは、あなたがたが自分で労しなかった地を、あなたがたに与え、あなたがたが建てなかった町を、あなたがたに与えた。そしてあなたがたはいまその所に住んでいる。あなたがたはまた自分で作らなかったぶどう畑と、オリブ畑の実を食べている』。 |
| 24-14 |
Now therefore fear Jehovah, and serve him in sincerity and in truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt; and serve ye Jehovah. |
それゆえ、いま、あなたがたは主を恐れ、まことと、まごころと、真実とをもって、主に仕え、あなたがたの先祖が、川の向こう、およびエジプトで仕えた他の神々を除き去って、主に仕えなさい。 |
| 24-15 |
And if it seem evil unto you to serve Jehovah, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah. |
もしあなたがたが主に仕えることを、こころよしとしないのならば、あなたがたの先祖が、川の向こうで仕えた神々でも、または、いまあなたがたの住む地のアモリびとの神々でも、あなたがたの仕える者を、きょう、選びなさい。ただし、わたしとわたしの家とは共に主に仕えます」。 |
| 24-16 |
And the people answered and said, Far be it from us that we should forsake Jehovah, to serve other gods; |
その時、民は答えて言った、「主を捨てて、他の神々に仕えるなど、われわれは決していたしません。 |
| 24-17 |
for Jehovah our God, he it is that brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and that did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the peoples through the midst of whom we passed; |
われわれの神、主がみずからわれわれと、われわれの先祖とを、エジプトの地、奴隷の家から導き上り、またわれわれの目の前で、あの大いなるしるしを行い、われわれの行くすべての道で守り、われわれが通ったすべての国民の中でわれわれを守られたからです。 |
| 24-18 |
and Jehovah drove out from before us all the peoples, even the Amorites that dwelt in the land: therefore we also will serve Jehovah; for he is our God. |
主はまた、この地に住んでいたアモリびとなど、すべての民を、われわれの前から追い払われました。それゆえ、われわれも主に仕えます。主はわれわれの神だからです」。 |
| 24-19 |
And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve Jehovah; for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgression nor your sins. |
しかし、ヨシュアは民に言った、「あなたがたは主に仕えることはできないであろう。主は聖なる神であり、ねたむ神であって、あなたがたの罪、あなたがたのとがを、ゆるされないからである。 |
| 24-20 |
If ye forsake Jehovah, and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you evil, and consume you, after that he hath done you good. |
もしあなたがたが主を捨てて、異なる神々に仕えるならば、あなたがたにさいわいを下されたのちにも、ひるがえってあなたがたに災をくだし、あなたがたを滅ぼしつくされるであろう」。 |
| 24-21 |
And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve Jehovah. |
民はヨシュアに言った、「いいえ、われわれは主に仕えます」。 |
| 24-22 |
And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you Jehovah, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses. |
そこでヨシュアは民に言った、「あなたがたは主を選んで、主に仕えると言った。あなたがたみずからその証人である」。彼らは言った、「われわれは証人です」。 |
| 24-23 |
Now therefore put away, said he, the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto Jehovah, the God of Israel. |
ヨシュアはまた言った、「それならば、あなたがたのうちにある、異なる神々を除き去り、イスラエルの神、主に、心を傾けなさい」。 |
| 24-24 |
And the people said unto Joshua, Jehovah our God will we serve, and unto his voice will we hearken. |
民はヨシュアに言った、「われわれの神、主に、われわれは仕え、その声に聞きしたがいます」。 |
| 24-25 |
So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem. |
こうしてヨシュアは、その日、民と契約をむすび、シケムにおいて、定めと、おきてを、彼らのために設けた。 |
| 24-26 |
And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God; and he took a great stone, and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Jehovah. |
ヨシュアはこれらの言葉を神の律法の書にしるし、大きな石を取って、その所で、主の聖所にあるかしの木の下にそれを立て、 |
| 24-27 |
And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness against us; for it hath heard all the words of Jehovah which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness against you, lest ye deny your God. |
ヨシュアは、すべての民に言った、「見よ、この石はわれわれのあかしとなるであろう。主がわれわれに語られたすべての言葉を、聞いたからである。それゆえ、あなたがたが自分の神を捨てることのないために、この石が、あなたがたのあかしとなるであろう」。 |
| 24-28 |
So Joshua sent the people away, every man unto his inheritance. |
こうしてヨシュアは民を、おのおのその嗣業の地に帰し去らせた。 |
| 24-29 |
And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Jehovah, died, being a hundred and ten years old. |
これらの事の後、主のしもべ、ヌンの子ヨシュアは百十歳で死んだ、 |
| 24-30 |
And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash. |
人々は彼をその嗣業の地のうちのテムナテ・セラに葬った。テムナテ・セラは、エフライムの山地で、ガアシ山の北にある。 |
| 24-31 |
And Israel served Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, and had known all the work of Jehovah, that he had wrought for Israel. |
イスラエルはヨシュアの世にある日の間、また主がイスラエルのために行われたもろもろのことを知っていて、ヨシュアのあとに生き残った長老たちが世にある日の間、つねに主に仕えた。 |
| 24-32 |
And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in the parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for a hundred pieces of money: and they became the inheritance of the children of Joseph. |
イスラエルの人々が、エジプトから携え上ったヨセフの骨は、むかしヤコブが銀百枚で、シケムの父ハモルの子らから買い取ったシケムのうちの地所の一部に葬られた。これはヨセフの子孫の嗣業となった。 |
| 24-33 |
And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given him in the hill-country of Ephraim. |
アロンの子エレアザルも死んだ。人々は彼を、その子ピネハスに与えられた町で、エフライムの山地にあるギベアに葬った。 |
