14-1 In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel began Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah to reign. イスラエルの王エホアハズの子ヨアシの第二年に、ユダの王ヨアシの子アマジヤが王となった。
14-2 He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem. 彼は王となった時二十五歳で、二十九年の間エルサレムで世を治めた。その母はエルサレムの出身で、名をエホアダンといった。
14-3 And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, yet not like David his father: he did according to all that Joash his father had done. アマジヤは主の目にかなう事をおこなったが、先祖ダビデのようではなかった。彼はすべての事を父ヨアシがおこなったようにおこなった。
14-4 Howbeit the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places. ただし高き所は除かなかったので、民はなおその高き所で犠牲をささげ、香をたいた。
14-5 And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he slew his servants who had slain the king his father: 彼は国が彼の手のうちに強くなった時、父ヨアシ王を殺害した家来たちを殺したが、
14-6 but the children of the murderers he put not to death; according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, as Jehovah commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin. その殺害者の子供たちは殺さなかった。これはモーセの律法の書にしるされている所に従ったのであって、そこに主は命じて「父は子のゆえに殺さるべきではない。子は父のゆえに殺さるべきではない。おのおの自分の罪のゆえに殺さるべきである」と言われている。
14-7 He slew of Edom in the Valley of Salt ten thousand, and took Sela by war, and called the name of it Joktheel, unto this day. アマジヤはまた塩の谷でエドムびと一万人を殺した。またセラを攻め取って、その名をヨクテルと名づけたが、今日までそのとおりである。
14-8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face. そこでアマジヤがエヒウの子エホアハズの子であるイスラエルの王ヨアシに使者をつかわして、「さあ、われわれは互に顔を合わせよう」と言わせたので、
14-9 And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trod down the thistle. イスラエルの王ヨアシはユダの王アマジヤに言い送った、「かつてレバノンのいばらがレバノンの香柏に、『あなたの娘をわたしのむすこの妻にください』と言い送ったことがあったが、レバノンの野獣がとおって、そのいばらを踏み倒した。
14-10 Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thy heart hath lifted thee up: glory thereof, and abide at home; for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee? あなたは大いにエドムを撃って、心にたかぶっているが、その栄誉に満足して家にとどまりなさい。何ゆえ、あなたは災をひき起して、自分もユダも共に滅びるような事をするのですか」。
14-11 But Amaziah would not hear. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah. しかしアマジヤが聞きいれなかったので、イスラエルの王ヨアシは上ってきた。そこで彼とユダの王アマジヤはユダのベテシメシで互に顔をあわせたが、
14-12 And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to his tent. ユダはイスラエルに敗られて、おのおのその天幕に逃げ帰った。
14-13 And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits. イスラエルの王ヨアシはアハジヤの子ヨアシの子であるユダの王アマジヤをベテシメシで捕え、エルサレムにきて、エルサレムの城壁をエフライムの門から隅の門まで、おおよそ四百キュビトにわたってこわし、
14-14 And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria. また主の宮と王の家の倉にある金銀およびもろもろの器をことごとく取り、かつ人質をとってサマリヤに帰った。
14-15 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? ヨアシのその他の事績と、その武勇および彼がユダの王アマジヤと戦った事は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
14-16 And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead. ヨアシはその先祖たちと共に眠って、イスラエルの王たちと共にサマリヤに葬られ、その子ヤラベアムが代って王となった。
14-17 And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years. ヨアシの子であるユダの王アマジヤは、エホアハズの子であるイスラエルの王ヨアシが死んで後、なお十五年生きながらえた。
14-18 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? アマジヤのその他の事績は、ユダの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
14-19 And they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there. 時に人々がエルサレムで徒党を結び、彼に敵対したので、彼はラキシに逃げていったが、その人々はラキシに人をつかわして彼をそこで殺させた。
14-20 And they brought him upon horses; and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David. 人々は彼を馬に載せて運んできて、エルサレムで彼を先祖たちと共にダビデの町に葬った。
14-21 And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah. そしてユダの民は皆アザリヤを父アマジヤの代りに王とした。時に年十六歳であった。
14-22 He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers. 彼はエラテの町を建てて、これをユダに復帰させた。これはかの王がその先祖たちと共に眠った後であった。
14-23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years. ユダの王ヨアシの子アマジヤの第十五年に、イスラエルの王ヨアシの子ヤラべアムがサマリヤで王となって四十一年の間、世を治めた。
14-24 And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin. 彼は主の目の前に悪を行い、イスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムの罪を離れなかった。
14-25 He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath unto the sea of the Arabah, according to the word of Jehovah, the God of Israel, which he spake by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gath-hepher. 彼はハマテの入口からアラバの海まで、イスラエルの領域を回復した。イスラエルの神、主がガテヘペルのアミッタイの子である、そのしもべ預言者ヨナによって言われた言葉のとおりである。
14-26 For Jehovah saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter; for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Israel. 主はイスラエルの悩みの非常に激しいのを見られた。そこにはつながれた者も、自由な者もいなくなり、またイスラエルを助ける者もいなかった。
14-27 And Jehovah said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven; but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash. 7しかし主はイスラエルの名を天が下から消し去ろうとは言われなかった。そして彼らをヨアシの子ヤラベアムの手によって救われた。
14-28 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which had belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? ヤラベアムのその他の事績と、彼がしたすべての事およびその武勇、すなわち彼が戦争をした事および、かつてユダに属していたダマスコとハマテを、イスラエルに復帰させた事は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
14-29 And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his stead. ヤラベアムはその先祖であるイスラエルの王たちと共に眠って、その子ゼカリヤが代って王となった。
