| 17-1 |
In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel, and reigned nine years. |
ユダの王アハズの第十二年にエラの子ホセアが王となり、サマリヤで九年の間、イスラエルを治めた。 |
| 17-2 |
And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, yet not as the kings of Israel that were before him. |
彼は主の目の前に悪を行ったが、彼以前のイスラエルの王たちのようではなかった。 |
| 17-3 |
Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and brought him tribute. |
アッスリヤの王シャルマネセルが攻め上ったので、ホセアは彼に隷属して、みつぎを納めたが、 |
| 17-4 |
And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison. |
アッスリヤの王はホセアがついに自分にそむいたのを知った。それはホセアが使者をエジプトの王ソにつかわし、また年々納めていたみつぎを、アッスリヤの王に納めなかったからである。そこでアッスリヤの王は彼を監禁し、獄屋につないだ。 |

Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years. |
そしてアッスリヤの王は攻め上って国中を侵し、サマリヤに上ってきて三年の間、これを攻め囲んだ。 |
| 17-6 |
In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away unto Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. |
ホセアの第九年になって、アッスリヤの王はついにサマリヤを取り、イスラエルの人々をアッスリヤに捕えていって、ハラと、ゴザンの川ハボルのほとりと、メデアの町々においた。 |
| 17-7 |
And it was so, because the children of Israel had sinned against Jehovah their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods, |
この事が起ったのは、イスラエルの人々が、自分たちをエジプトの地から導き上って、エジプトの王パロの手をのがれさせられたその神、主にむかって罪を犯し、他の神々を敬い、 |
| 17-8 |
and walked in the statutes of the nations, whom Jehovah cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they made. |
主がイスラエルの人々の前から追い払われた異邦人のならわしに従って歩み、またイスラエルの王たちが定めたならわしに従って歩んだからである。 |
| 17-9 |
And the children of Israel did secretly things that were not right against Jehovah their God: and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city; |
イスラエルの人々はその神、主にむかって正らぬ事をひそかに行い、見張台から堅固な町に至るまで、すべての町々に高き所を建て、 |
| 17-10 |
and they set them up pillars and Asherim upon every high hill, and under every green tree; |
またすべての高い丘の上、すべての青木の下に石の柱とアシラ像を立て、 |
| 17-11 |
and there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the nations whom Jehovah carried away before them; and they wrought wicked things to provoke Jehovah to anger; |
主が彼らの前から捕え移された異邦人がしたように、すべての高き所で香をたき、悪事を行って、主を怒らせた。 |
| 17-12 |
and they served idols, whereof Jehovah had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing. |
また主が彼らに「あなたがたはこの事をしてはならない」と言われたのに偶像に仕えた。 |
| 17-13 |
Yet Jehovah testified unto Israel, and unto Judah, by every prophet, and every seer, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets. |
主はすべての預言者、すべての先見者によってイスラエルとユダを戒め、「翻って、あなたがたの悪い道を離れ、わたしがあなたがたの先祖たちに命じ、またわたしのしもべである預言者たちによってあなたがたに伝えたすべての律法のとおりに、わたしの戒めと定めとを守れ」と仰せられたが、 |
| 17-14 |
Notwithstanding, they would not hear, but hardened their neck, like to the neck of their fathers, who believed not in Jehovah their God. |
彼らは聞きいれず、彼らの先祖たちがその神、主を信じないで、強情であったように、彼らは強情であった。 |
| 17-15 |
And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified unto them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the nations that were round about them, concerning whom Jehovah had charged them that they should not do like them. |
そして彼らは主の定めを捨て、主が彼らの先祖たちと結ばれた契約を破り、また彼らに与えられた警告を軽んじ、かつむなしい偶像に従ってむなしくなり、また周囲の異邦人に従った。これは主が、彼らのようにおこなってはならないと彼らに命じられたものである。 |
| 17-16 |
And they forsook all the commandments of Jehovah their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. |
彼らはその神、主のすべての戒めを捨て、自分のために二つの子牛の像を鋳て造り、またアシラ像を造り、天の万象を拝み、かつバアルに仕え、 |
| 17-17 |
And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger. |
またそのむすこ、娘を火に焼いてささげ物とし、占いおよびまじないをなし、主の目の前に悪をおこなうことに身をゆだねて、主を怒らせた。 |
| 17-18 |
Therefore Jehovah was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only. |
それゆえ、主は大いにイスラエルを怒り、彼らをみ前から除かれたので、ユダの部族のほか残った者はなかった。 |
| 17-19 |
Also Judah kept not the commandments of Jehovah their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made. |
ところがユダもまたその神、主の戒めを守らず、イスラエルが定めたならわしに歩んだので、 |
| 17-20 |
And Jehovah rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight. |
主はイスラエルの子孫をことごとく捨て、彼らを苦しめ、彼らを略奪者の手にわたして、ついに彼らをみ前から打ちすてられた。 |
| 17-21 |
For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drove Israel from following Jehovah, and made them sin a great sin. |
はイスラエルをダビデの家から裂き離されたので、イスラエルはネバテの子ヤラベアムを王としたが、ヤラベアムはイスラエルに、主に従うことをやめさせ、大きな罪を犯させた。 |
| 17-22 |
And the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them; |
イスラエルの人々がヤラベアムのおこなったすべての罪をおこない続けて、それを離れなかったので、 |
| 17-23 |
until Jehovah removed Israel out of his sight, as he spake by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day. |
ついに主はそのしもべである預言者たちによって言われたように、イスラエルをみ前から除き去られた。こうしてイスラエルは自分の国からアッスリヤに移されて今日に至っている。 |
| 17-24 |
And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof. |
かくてアッスリヤの王はバビロン、クタ、アワ、ハマテおよびセパルワイムから人々をつれてきて、これをイスラエルの人々の代りにサマリヤの町々におらせたので、その人々はサマリヤを領有して、その町々に住んだ。 |
| 17-25 |
And so it was, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not Jehovah: therefore Jehovah sent lions among them, which killed some of them. |
彼らがそこに住み始めた時、主を敬うことをしなかったので、主は彼らのうちにししを送り、ししは彼らのうちの数人を殺した。 |
| 17-26 |
Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast carried away, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the law of the god of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the law of the god of the land. |
そこで人々はアッスリヤの王に告げて言った、「あなたが移してサマリヤの町々におらせられたあの国々の民は、その地の神のおきてを知らないゆえに、その神は彼らのうちにししを送り、ししは彼らを殺した。これは彼らが、その地の神のおきてを知らないためです」。 |
| 17-27 |
Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the god of the land. |
アッスリヤの王は命じて言った、「あなたがたがあそこから移した祭司のひとりをあそこへ連れて行きなさい。彼をあそこへやって住まわせ、その国の神のおきてをその人々に教えさせなさい」。 |
| 17-28 |
So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Beth-el, and taught them how they should fear Jehovah. |
そこでサマリヤから移された祭司のひとりが来てベテルに住み、どのように主を敬うべきかを彼らに教えた。 |
| 17-29 |
Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt. |
しかしその民はおのおの自分の神々を造って、それをサマリヤびとが造った高き所の家に安置した。民は皆住んでいる町々でそのようにおこなった。 |
| 17-30 |
And the men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima, |
すなわちバビロンの人々はスコテ・ベノテを造り、クタの人々はネルガルを造り、ハマテの人々はアシマを造り、 |
| 17-31 |
and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burnt their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. |
アワの人々はニブハズとタルタクを造り、セパルワイムびとはその子を火に焼いて、セパルワイムの神アデランメレクおよびアナンメレクにささげた。 |
| 17-32 |
So they feared Jehovah, and made unto them from among themselves priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places. |
彼はまた主を敬い、自分たちのうちから一般の民を立てて高き所の祭司としたので、その人々は高き所の家で勤めをした。 |
| 17-33 |
They feared Jehovah, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away. |
このように彼らは主を敬ったが、また彼らが出てきた国々のならわしにしたがって、自分たちの神々にも仕えた。 |
| 17-34 |
Unto this day they do after the former manner: they fear not Jehovah, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law or after the commandment which Jehovah commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel; |
今日に至るまで彼らは先のならわしにしたがっておこなっている。彼らは主を敬わず、また主がイスラエルと名づけられたヤコブの子孫に命じられた定めにも、おきてにも、律法にも、戒めにも従わない。 |
| 17-35 |
with whom Jehovah had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them: |
主はかつて彼らと契約を結び、彼らに命じて言われた、「あなたがたは他の神々を敬ってはならない。また彼らを拝み、彼らに仕え、彼らに犠牲をささげてはならない。 |
| 17-36 |
but Jehovah, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, him shall ye fear, and unto him shall ye bow yourselves, and to him shall ye sacrifice: |
ただ大きな力と伸べた腕とをもって、あなたがたをエジプトの地から導き上った主をのみ敬い、これを拝み、これに犠牲をささげなければならない。 |
| 17-37 |
and the statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods: |
またあなたがたのために書きしるされた定めと、おきてと、律法と、戒めとを、慎んで常に守らなければならない。他の神々を敬ってはならない。 |
| 17-38 |
and the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods: |
わたしがあなたがたと結んだ契約を忘れてはならない。また他の神々を敬ってはならない。 |
| 17-39 |
but Jehovah your God shall ye fear; and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. |
ただあなたがたの神、主を敬わなければならない。主はあなたがたをそのすべての敵の手から救い出されるであろう」。 |
| 17-40 |
Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner. |
しかし彼らは聞きいれず、かえって先のならわしにしたがっておこなった。 |
| 17-41 |
So these nations feared Jehovah, and served their graven images; their children likewise, and their children’s children, as did their fathers, so do they unto this day. |
このように、これらの民は主を敬い、またその刻んだ像にも仕えたが、その子たちも、孫たちも同様であって、彼らはその先祖がおこなったように今日までおこなっている。 |
