And the Syrians had gone out in bands, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maiden; and she waited on Naaman’s wife. |

And she said unto her mistress, Would that my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! then would he recover him of his leprosy. |
その女主人にむかって、「ああ、御主人がサマリヤにいる預言者と共におられたらよかったでしょうに。彼はそのらい病をいやしたことでしょう」と言ったので、 |

And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maiden that is of the land of Israel. |
ナアマンは行って、その主君に、「イスラエルの地からきた娘がこういう事を言いました」と告げると、 |

And the king of Syria said, Go now, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment. |
スリヤ王は言った、「それでは行きなさい。わたしはイスラエルの王に手紙を書きましょう」。そこで彼は銀十タラントと、金六千シケルと、晴れ着十着を携えて行った。 |

And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, And now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy. |
彼がイスラエルの王に持って行った手紙には、「この手紙があなたにとどいたならば、わたしの家来ナアマンを、あなたにつかわしたことと御承知ください。あなたに彼のらい病をいやしていただくためです」とあった。 |

And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? but consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me. |
イスラエルの王はその手紙を読んだ時、衣を裂いて言った、「わたしは殺したり、生かしたりすることのできる神であろうか。どうしてこの人は、らい病人をわたしにつかわして、それをいやせと言うのか。あなたがたは、彼がわたしに争いをしかけているのを知って警戒するがよい」。 |

And it was so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel. |
神の人エリシャは、イスラエルの王がその衣を裂いたことを聞き、王に人をつかわして言った、「どうしてあなたは衣を裂いたのですか。彼をわたしのもとにこさせなさい。そうすれば彼はイスラエルに預言者のあることを知るようになるでしょう」。 |

So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. |
そこでナアマンは馬と車とを従えてきて、エリシャの家の入口に立った。 |

And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. |
するとエリシャは彼に使者をつかわして言った、「あなたはヨルダンへ行って七たび身を洗いなさい。そうすれば、あなたの肉はもとにかえって清くなるでしょう」。 |

But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of Jehovah his God, and wave his hand over the place, and recover the leper. |
しかしナアマンは怒って去り、そして言った、「わたしは、彼がきっとわたしのもとに出てきて立ち、その神、主の名を呼んで、その箇所の上に手を動かして、らい病をいやすのだろうと思った。 |

Are not Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage. |
ダマスコの川アバナとパルパルはイスラエルのすべての川水にまさるではないか。わたしはこれらの川に身を洗って清まることができないのであろうか」。こうして彼は身をめぐらし、怒って去った。 |

And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean? |
その時、しもべたちは彼に近よって言った、「わが父よ、預言者があなたに、何か大きな事をせよと命じても、あなたはそれをなさらなかったでしょうか。まして彼はあなたに『身を洗って清くなれ』と言うだけではありませんか」。 |

Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. |
そこでナアマンは下って行って、神の人の言葉のように七たびヨルダンに身を浸すと、その肉がもとにかえって幼な子の肉のようになり、清くなった。 |

And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him; and he said, Behold now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a present of thy servant. |
彼はすべての従者を連れて神の人のもとに帰ってきて、その前に立って言った、「わたしは今、イスラエルのほか、全地のどこにも神のおられないことを知りました。それゆえ、どうぞ、しもべの贈り物を受けてください」。 |
| 5-16 |
But he said, As Jehovah liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused. |
エリシャは言った、「わたしの仕える主は生きておられる。わたしは何も受けません」。彼はしいて受けさせようとしたが、それを拒んだ。 |
| 5-17 |
And Naaman said, If not, yet, I pray thee, let there be given to thy servant two mules’ burden of earth; for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt-offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto Jehovah. |
そこでナアマンは言った、「もしお受けにならないのであれば、どうぞ騾馬に二駄の土をしもべにください。これから後しもべは、他の神には燔祭も犠牲もささげず、ただ主にのみささげます。 |
| 5-18 |
In this thing Jehovah pardon thy servant: when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, Jehovah pardon thy servant in this thing. |
どうぞ主がこの事を、しもべにおゆるしくださるように。すなわち、わたしの主君がリンモンの宮にはいって、そこで礼拝するとき、わたしの手によりかかることがあり、またわたしもリンモンの宮で身をかがめることがありましょう。わたしがリンモンの宮で身をかがめる時、どうぞ主がその事を、しもべにおゆるしくださるように」。 |

And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way. |

But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: as Jehovah liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him. |
神の人エリシャのしもべゲハジは言った、「主人はこのスリヤびとナアマンをいたわって、彼が携えてきた物を受けなかった。主は生きておられる。わたしは彼のあとを追いかけて、彼から少し、物を受けよう」。 |

So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw one running after him, he alighted from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well? |
そしてゲハジはナアマンのあとを追ったが、ナアマンは自分のあとから彼が走ってくるのを見て、車から降り、彼を迎えて、「変った事があるのですか」と言うと、 |

And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there are come to me from the hill-country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets; give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of raiment. |
彼は言った、「無事です。主人がわたしをつかわして言わせます、『ただいまエフライムの山地から、預言者のともがらのふたりの若者が、わたしのもとに来ましたので、どうぞ彼らに銀一タラントと晴れ着二着を与えてください』」。 |

And Naaman said, Be pleased to take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of raiment, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him. |
ナアマンは、「どうぞ二タラントを受けてください」と言って彼にしい、銀二タラントを二つの袋に入れ、晴れ着二着を添えて、自分のふたりのしもべに渡したので、彼らはそれを負ってゲハジの先に立って進んだが、 |

And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house; and he let the men go, and they departed. |
彼は丘にきたとき、それを彼らの手から受け取って家のうちにおさめ、人々を送りかえしたので、彼らは去った。 |

But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither. |
彼がはいって主人の前に立つと、エリシャは彼に言った、「ゲハジよ、どこへ行ってきたのか」。彼は言った、「しもべはどこへも行きません」。 |

And he said unto him, Went not my heart with thee, when the man turned from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards and vineyards, and sheep and oxen, and men-servants and maid-servants? |
エリシャは言った、「あの人が車をはなれて、あなたを迎えたとき、わたしの心はあなたと一緒にそこにいたではないか。今は金を受け、着物を受け、オリブ畑、ぶどう畑、羊、牛、しもべ、はしためを受ける時であろうか。 |

The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow. |
それゆえ、ナアマンのらい病はあなたに着き、ながくあなたの子孫に及ぶであろう」。彼がエリシャの前を出ていくとき、らい病が発して雪のように白くなっていた。 |
