| 8-1 |
Now Elisha had spoken unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thy household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for Jehovah hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years. |
エリシャはかつて、その子を生きかえらせてやった女に言ったことがある。「あなたは、ここを立って、あなたの家族と共に行き、寄留しようと思う所に寄留しなさい。主がききんを呼び下されたので、七年の間それがこの地に臨むから」。 |

And the woman arose, and did according to the word of the man of God; and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years. |
そこで女は立って神の人の言葉のようにし、その家族と共に行ってペリシテびとの地に七年寄留した。 |

And it came to pass at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land. |
七年たって後、女はペリシテびとの地から帰ってきて、自分の家と畑のために王に訴えようと出ていった。 |

Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done. |
時に王は神の人のしもべゲハジにむかって「エリシャがしたもろもろの大きな事をわたしに話してください」と言って、彼と物語っていた。 |

And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored to life him that was dead, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life. |
すなわちエリシャが死人を生きかえらせた事を、ゲハジが王と物語っていたとき、その子を生きかえらせてもらった女が、自分の家と畑のために王に訴えてきたので、ゲハジは言った、「わが主、王よ、これがその女です。またこれがその子で、エリシャが生きかえらせたのです」。 |

And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now. |
王がその女に尋ねると、彼女は王に話したので、王は彼女のためにひとりの役人に命じて言った、「すべて彼女に属する物、ならびに彼女がこの地を去った日から今までのその畑の産物をことごとく彼女に返しなさい」。 |

And Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither. |
さてエリシャはダマスコに来た。時にスリヤの王ベネハダデは病気であったが、「神の人がここに来た」と告げる者があったので、 |

And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thy hand, and go, meet the man of God, and inquire of Jehovah by him, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness? |
王はハザエルに言った、「贈り物を携えて行って神の人を迎え、彼によって主に『わたしのこの病気はなおりましょうか』と言って尋ねなさい」。 |

So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Benhadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness? |
そこでハザエルは彼を迎えようと、ダマスコのもろもろの良い物をらくだ四十頭に載せ、贈り物として携え行き、エリシャの前に立って言った、「あなたの子、スリヤの王ベネハダデがわたしをあなたにつかわして、『わたしのこの病気はなおりましょうか』と言わせています」。 |

And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou shalt surely recover; howbeit Jehovah hath showed me that he shall surely die. |
エリシャは彼に言った、「行って彼に『あなたは必ずなおります』と告げなさい。ただし主はわたしに、彼が必ず死ぬことを示されました」。 |

And he settled his countenance stedfastly upon him, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept. |
そして神の人がひとみを定めて彼の恥じるまでに見つめ、やがて泣き出したので、 |

And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strongholds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child. |
ハザエルは言った、「わが主よ、どうして泣かれるのですか」。エリシャは答えた、「わたしはあなたがイスラエルの人々にしようとする害悪を知っているからです。すなわち、あなたは彼らの城に火をかけ、つるぎをもって若者を殺し、幼な子を投げうち、妊娠の女を引き裂くでしょう」。 |
| 8-13 |
And Hazael said, But what is thy servant, who is but a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, Jehovah hath showed me that thou shalt be king over Syria. |
ハザエルは言った、「しもべは一匹の犬にすぎないのに、どうしてそんな大きな事をすることができましょう」。エリシャは言った、「主がわたしに示されました。あなたはスリヤの王となるでしょう」。 |
| 8-14 |
Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou wouldest surely recover. |
彼がエリシャのもとを去って、主君のところへ行くと、「エリシャはあなたになんと言ったか」と尋ねられたので、「あなたが必ずなおるでしょうと、彼はわたしに告げました」と答えた。 |

And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took the coverlet, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead. |
しかし翌日になってハザエルは布を取って水に浸し、それをもって王の顔をおおったので、王は死んだ。ハザエルは彼に代って王となった。 |

And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign. |
イスラエルの王アハブの子ヨラムの第五年に、ユダの王ヨシャパテの子ヨラムが位についた。 |
| 8-17 |
Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. |
彼は王となったとき三十二歳で、八年の間エルサレムで世を治めた。 |
| 8-18 |
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife; and he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah. |
彼はアハブの家がしたようにイスラエルの王たちの道に歩んだ。アハブの娘が彼の妻であったからである。彼は主の目の前に悪をおこなったが、 |

Howbeit Jehovah would not destroy Judah, for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give unto him a lamp for his children alway. |
主はしもべダビデのためにユダを滅ぼすことを好まれなかった。すなわち主は彼とその子孫に常にともしびを与えると、彼に約束されたからである。 |

In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves. |
ヨラムの世にエドムがそむいてユダの支配を脱し、みずから王を立てたので、 |
| 8-21 |
Then Joram passed over to Zair, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites that compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots; and the people fled to their tents. |
ヨラムはすべての戦車を従えてザイルにわたって行き、その戦車の指揮官たちと共に、夜のうちに立ちあがって、彼を包囲しているエドムびとを撃った。しかしヨラムの軍隊は天幕に逃げ帰った。 |
| 8-22 |
So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then did Libnah revolt at the same time. |
エドムはこのようにそむいてユダの支配を脱し、今日に至っている。リブナもまた同時にそむいた。 |
| 8-23 |
And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? |
ヨラムのその他の事績および彼がしたすべての事は、ユダの歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。 |

And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead. |
ヨラムはその先祖たちと共に眠って、ダビデの町にその先祖たちと共に葬られ、その子アハジヤが代って王となった。 |
| 8-25 |
In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign. |
イスラエルの王アハブの子ヨラムの第十二年にユダの王ヨラムの子アハジヤが位についた。 |
| 8-26 |
Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri king of Israel. |
アハジヤは王となったとき二十二歳で、エルサレムで一年世を治めた。その母は名をアタリヤと言って、イスラエルの王オムリの孫娘であった。 |

And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, as did the house of Ahab; for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab. |
アハジヤはまたアハブの家の道に歩み、アハブの家がしたように主の目の前に悪をおこなった。彼はアハブの家の婿であったからである。 |

And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead: and the Syrians wounded Joram. |
彼はアハブの子ヨラムと共に行って、スリヤの王ハザエルとラモテ・ギレアデで戦ったが、スリヤびとらはヨラムに傷を負わせた。 |

And king Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick. |
ヨラム王はそのスリヤの王ハザエルと戦うときにラマでスリヤびとに負わされた傷をいやすため、エズレルに帰ったが、ユダの王ヨラムの子アハジヤはアハブの子ヨラムが病んでいたので、エズレルに下って彼をおとずれた。 |
