And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this vial of oil in thy hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead. |
時に預言者エリシャは預言者のともがらのひとりを呼んで言った、「腰をひきからげ、この油のびんを携えて、ラモテ・ギレアデへ行きなさい。 |

And when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber. |
そこに着いたならば、ニムシの子ヨシャパテの子であるエヒウを尋ね出し、内にはいって彼をその同僚たちのうちから立たせて、奥の間に連れて行き、 |

Then take the vial of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith Jehovah, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not. |
油のびんを取って、その頭に注ぎ、『主はこう仰せられる、わたしはあなたに油を注いでイスラエルの王とする』と言い、そして戸をあけて逃げ去りなさい。とどまってはならない」。 |

So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead. |
そこで預言者であるその若者はラモテ・ギレアデへ行ったが、 |
| 9-5 |
And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of us all? And he said, To thee, O captain. |
来て見ると、軍勢の長たちが会議中であったので、彼は「将軍よ、わたしはあなたに申しあげる事があります」と言うと、エヒウが答えて、「われわれすべてのうちの、だれにですか」と言ったので、彼は「将軍よ、あなたにです」と言った。 |

And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of Jehovah, even over Israel. |
するとエヒウが立ちあがって家にはいったので、若者はその頭に油を注いで彼に言った、「イスラエルの神、主はこう仰せられます、『わたしはあなたに油を注いで、主の民イスラエルの王とする。 |

And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Jehovah, at the hand of Jezebel. |
あなたは主君アハブの家を撃ち滅ぼさなければならない。それによってわたしは、わたしのしもべである預言者たちの血と、主のすべてのしもべたちの血をイゼベルに報いる。 |

For the whole house of Ahab shall perish; and I will cut off from Ahab every man-child, and him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Israel. |
アハブの全家は滅びるであろう。アハブに属する男は、イスラエルにいて、つながれた者も、自由な者も、ことごとくわたしは断ち、 |
| 9-9 |
And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah. |
アハブの家をネバテの子ヤラベアムのようにし、アヒヤの子バアシャの家のようにする。 |
| 9-10 |
And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled. |
犬がイズレルの地域でイゼベルを食い、彼女を葬る者はないであろう』」。そして彼は戸をあけて逃げ去った。 |
| 9-11 |
Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said unto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellow to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man and what his talk was. |
やがてエヒウが主君の家来たちの所へ出て来ると、彼らはエヒウに言った、「変った事はありませんか。あの気違いは、なんのためにあなたの所にきたのですか」。エヒウは彼らに言った、「あなたがたは、あの人を知っています。またその言う事も知っています」。 |

And they said, It is false; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, I have anointed thee king over Israel. |
彼らは言った、「それは違います。どうぞわれわれに話してください」。そこでエヒウは言った、「彼はこうこう、わたしに告げて言いました、『主はこう仰せられる、わたしはあなたに油を注いで、イスラエルの王とする』」。 |

Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew the trumpet, saying, Jehu is king. |
すると彼らは急いで、おのおの衣服をとり、それを階段の上のエヒウの下に敷き、ラッパを吹いて「エヒウは王である」と言った。 |

So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram was keeping Ramoth-gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria; |
こうしてニムシの子であるヨシャパテの子エヒウはヨラムにそむいた。（ヨラムはイスラエルをことごとく率いて、ラモテ・ギレアデでスリヤの王ハザエルを防いだが、 |

but king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If this be your mind, then let none escape and go forth out of the city, to go to tell it in Jezreel. |
ヨラム王はスリヤの王ハザエルと戦った時に、スリヤびとに負わされた傷をいやすため、エズレルに帰っていた。）エヒウは言った、「もしこれがあなたがたの本心であるならば、ひとりもこの町から忍び出て、これをエズレルに告げてはならない」。 |

So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah was come down to see Joram. |
そしてエヒウは車に乗ってエズレルへ行った。ヨラムがそこに伏していたからである。またユダの王アハジヤはヨラムを見舞うために下っていた。 |

Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace? |
さてエズレルのやぐらに、ひとりの物見が立っていたが、エヒウの群衆が来るのを見て、「群衆が見える」と言ったので、ヨラムは言った、「ひとりを馬に乗せてつかわし、それに会わせて『平安ですか』と言わせなさい」。 |

So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he cometh not back. |
そこでひとりが馬に乗って行き、彼に会って言った、「王はこう仰せられます、『平安ですか』」。エヒウ言った、「あなたは平安となんの関係がありますか。わたしのあとについてきなさい」。物見はまた告げて言った、「使者は彼らの所へ行きましたが、帰ってきません」。 |

Then he sent out a second on horseback, who came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. |
そこで再び人を馬でつかわしたので、彼らの所へ行って言った、「王はこう仰せられます、『平安ですか』」。エヒウは答えて言った、「あなたは平安となんの関係がありますか。わたしのあとについてきなさい」。 |

And the watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not back: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth furiously. |
物見はまた告げて言った、「彼も、彼らの所へ行きましたが帰ってきません。あの車の操縦はニムシの子エヒウの操縦するのに似て、猛烈な勢いで操縦して来ます」。 |

And Joram said, Make ready. And they made ready his chariot. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Jehu, and found him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite. |
そこでヨラムが「車を用意せよ」と言ったので、車を用意すると、イスラエルの王ヨラムと、ユダの王アハジヤは、おのおのその車で出て行った。すなわちエヒウに会うために出ていって、エズレルびとナボテの地所で彼に会った。 |

And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many? |
ヨラムはエヒウを見て言った、「エヒウよ、平安ですか」。エヒウは答えた、「あなたの母イゼベルの姦淫と魔術とが、こんなに多いのに、どうして平安でありえましょうか」。 |
| 9-23 |
And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah. |
その時ヨラムは車をめぐらして逃げ、アハジヤにむかって、「アハジヤよ、反逆です」と言うと、 |
| 9-24 |
And Jehu drew his bow with his full strength, and smote Joram between his arms; and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot. |
エヒウは手に弓をひきしぼって、ヨラムの両肩の間を射たので、矢は彼の心臓を貫き、彼は車の中に倒れた。 |
| 9-25 |
Then said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember how that, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, Jehovah laid this burden upon him: |
エヒウはその副官ビデカルに言った、「彼を取りあげて、エズレルびとナボテの畑に投げ捨てなさい。かつて、わたしとあなたと、ふたり共に乗って、彼の父アハブに従ったとき、主が彼について、この預言をされたことを記憶しなさい。 |

Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith Jehovah; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith Jehovah. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of Jehovah. |
すなわち主は言われた、『まことに、わたしはきのうナボテの血と、その子らの血を見た』。また主は言われた、『わたしはこの地所であなたに報復する』と。それゆえ彼を取りあげて、その地所に投げすて、主の言葉のようにしなさい」。

But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden-house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot: and they smote him at the ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there. |
ユダの王アハジヤはこれを見てベテハガンの方へ逃げたが、エヒウはそのあとを追い、「彼をも撃て」と言ったので、イブレアムのほとりのグルの坂で車の中の彼を撃った。彼はメギドまで逃げていって、そこで死んだ。 |

And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David. |
その家来たちは彼を車に載せてエルサレムに運び、ダビデの町で彼の墓にその先祖たちと共に葬った。 |
| 9-29 |
And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab began Ahaziah to reign over Judah. |
アハブの子ヨラムの第十一年にアハジヤはユダの王となったのである。 |

And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her eyes, and attired her head, and looked out at the window. |
エヒウがエズレルにきた時、イゼベルはそれを聞いて、その目を塗り、髪を飾って窓から望み見たが、 |

And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Is it peace, thou Zimri, thy master’s murderer? |
エヒウが門にはいってきたので、「主君を殺したジムリよ、無事ですか」と言った。 |

And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs. |
するとエヒウは顔をあげて窓にむかい、「だれか、わたしに味方する者があるか。だれかあるか」と言うと、二、三人の宦官がエヒウを望み見たので、 |
| 9-33 |
And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down; and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trod her under foot. |
エヒウは「彼女を投げ落せ」と言った。彼らは彼女を投げ落したので、その血が壁と馬とにはねかかった。そして馬は彼女を踏みつけた。 |
| 9-34 |
And when he was come in, he did eat and drink; and he said, See now to this cursed woman, and bury her; for she is a king’s daughter. |
エヒウは内にはいって食い飲みし、そして言った、「あののろわれた女を見、彼女を葬りなさい。彼女は王の娘なのだ」。 |
| 9-35 |
And they went to bury her; but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands. |
しかし彼らが彼女を葬ろうとして行って見ると、頭蓋骨と、足と、たなごころのほか何もなかったので、 |
| 9-36 |
Wherefore they came back, and told him. And he said, This is the word of Jehovah, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel; |
帰って、彼に告げると、彼は言った、「これは主が、そのしもべ、テシベびとエリヤによってお告げになった言葉である。すなわち『エズレルの地で犬がイゼベルの肉を食うであろう。 |

and the body of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel. |
イゼベルの死体はエズレルの地で、糞土のように野のおもてに捨てられて、だれも、これはイゼベルだ、と言うことができないであろう』」。 |
