11-1 And the people were as murmurers, speaking evil in the ears of Jehovah: and when Jehovah heard it, his anger was kindled; and the fire of Jehovah burnt among them, and devoured in the uttermost part of the camp. さて、民は災難に会っている人のように、主の耳につぶやいた。主はこれを聞いて怒りを発せられ、主の火が彼らのうちに燃えあがって、宿営の端を焼いた。
11-2 And the people cried unto Moses; and Moses prayed unto Jehovah, and the fire abated. そこで民はモーセにむかって叫んだ。モーセが主に祈ったので、その火はしずまった。
11-3 And the name of that place was called Taberah, because the fire of Jehovah burnt among them. 主の火が彼らのうちに燃えあがったことによって、その所の名はタベラと呼ばれた。
11-4 And the mixed multitude that was among them lusted exceedingly: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? また彼らのうちにいた多くの寄り集まりびとは欲心を起し、イスラエルの人々もまた再び泣いて言った、「ああ、肉が食べたい。
11-5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt for nought; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic: われわれは思い起すが、エジプトでは、ただで、魚を食べた。きゅうりも、すいかも、にらも、たまねぎも、そして、にんにくも。
11-6 but now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all save this manna to look upon. しかし、いま、われわれの精根は尽きた。われわれの目の前には、このマナのほか何もない」。
11-7 And the manna was like coriander seed, and the appearance thereof as the appearance of bdellium. マナは、こえんどろの実のようで、色はブドラクの色のようであった。
11-8 The people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in mortars, and boiled it in pots, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil. 民は歩きまわって、これを集め、ひきうすでひき、または、うすでつき、かまで煮て、これをもちとした。その味は油菓子の味のようであった。
11-9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it. 夜、宿営の露がおりるとき、マナはそれと共に降った。
11-10 And Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, every man at the door of his tent: and the anger of Jehovah was kindled greatly; and Moses was displeased. モーセは、民が家ごとに、おのおのその天幕の入口で泣くのを聞いた。そこで主は激しく怒られ、またモーセは不快に思った。
11-11 And Moses said unto Jehovah, Wherefore hast thou dealt ill with thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favor in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me? そして、モーセは主に言った、「あなたはなぜ、しもべに悪い仕打ちをされるのですか。どうしてわたしはあなたの前に恵みを得ないで、このすべての民の重荷を負わされるのですか。
11-12 Have I conceived all this people? have I brought them forth, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing-father carrieth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers? わたしがこのすべての民を、はらんだのですか。わたしがこれを生んだのですか。そうではないのに、あなたはなぜわたしに『養い親が乳児を抱くように、彼らをふところに抱いて、あなたが彼らの先祖たちに誓われた地に行け』と言われるのですか。
11-13 Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat. わたしはどこから肉を獲て、このすべての民に与えることができましょうか。彼らは泣いて、『肉を食べさせよ』とわたしに言っているのです。
11-14 I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. わたしひとりでは、このすべての民を負うことができません。それはわたしには重過ぎます。
11-15 And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favor in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness. もしわたしがあなたの前に恵みを得ますならば、わたしにこのような仕打ちをされるよりは、むしろ、ひと思いに殺し、このうえ苦しみに会わせないでください」。
11-16 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with thee. 主はモーセに言われた、「イスラエルの長老たちのうち、民の長老となり、つかさとなるべきことを、あなたが知っている者七十人をわたしのもとに集め、会見の幕屋に連れてきて、そこにあなたと共に立たせなさい。
11-17 And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the Spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone. わたしは下って、その所で、あなたと語り、またわたしはあなたの上にある霊を、彼らにも分け与えるであろう。彼らはあなたと共に、民の重荷を負い、あなたが、ただひとりで、それを負うことのないようにするであろう。
11-18 And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to-morrow, and ye shall eat flesh; for ye have wept in the ears of Jehovah, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore Jehovah will give you flesh, and ye shall eat. あなたはまた民に言いなさい、『あなたがたは身を清めて、あすを待ちなさい。あなたがたは肉を食べることができるであろう。あなたがたが泣いて主の耳に、わたしたちは肉が食べたい。エジプトにいた時は良かったと言ったからである。それゆえ、主はあなたがたに肉を与えて食べさせられるであろう。
11-19 Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days, あなたがたがそれを食べるのは、一日や二日や五日や十日や二十日ではなく、
11-20 but a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you; because that ye have rejected Jehovah who is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt? 一か月に及び、ついにあなたがたの鼻から出るようになり、あなたがたは、それに飽き果てるであろう。それはあなたがたのうちにおられる主を軽んじて、その前に泣き、なぜ、わたしたちはエジプトから出てきたのだろうと言ったからである』」。
11-21 And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month. モーセは言った、「わたしと共におる民は徒歩の男子だけでも六十万です。ところがあなたは、『わたしは彼らに肉を与えて一か月のあいだ食べさせよう』と言われます。
11-22 Shall flocks and herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them? 羊と牛の群れを彼らのためにほふって、彼らを飽きさせるというのですか。海のすべての魚を彼らのために集めて、彼らを飽きさせるというのですか」。
11-23 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Is Jehovah’s hand waxed short? now shalt thou see whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not. 主はモーセに言われた、「主の手は短かろうか。あなたは、いま、わたしの言葉の成るかどうかを見るであろう」。
11-24 And Moses went out, and told the people the words of Jehovah: and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the Tent. この時モーセは出て、主の言葉を民に告げ、民の長老たち七十人を集めて、幕屋の周囲に立たせた。
11-25 And Jehovah came down in the cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and put it upon the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, but they did so no more. 主は雲のうちにあって下り、モーセと語られ、モーセの上にある霊を、その七十人の長老たちにも分け与えられた。その霊が彼らの上にとどまった時、彼らは預言した。ただし、その後は重ねて預言しなかった。
11-26 But there remained two men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the Spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but had not gone out unto the Tent; and they prophesied in the camp. その時ふたりの者が、宿営にとどまっていたが、ひとりの名はエルダデと言い、ひとりの名はメダデといった。彼らの上にも霊がとどまった。彼らは名をしるされた者であったが、幕屋に行かなかったので、宿営のうちで預言した。
11-27 And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp. 時にひとりの若者が走ってきて、モーセに告げて言った、「エルダデとメダデとが宿営のうちで預言しています」。
11-28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, one of his chosen men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them. 若い時からモーセの従者であったヌンの子ヨシュアは答えて言った、「わが主、モーセよ、彼らをさし止めてください」。
11-29 And Moses said unto him, Art thou jealous for my sake? would that all Jehovah’s people were prophets, that Jehovah would put his Spirit upon them! モーセは彼に言った、「あなたは、わたしのためを思って、ねたみを起しているのか。主の民がみな預言者となり、主がその霊を彼らに与えられることは、願わしいことだ」。
11-30 And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel. こうしてモーセはイスラエルの長老たちと共に、宿営に引きあげた。
11-31 And there went forth a wind from Jehovah, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, about a day’s journey on this side, and a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and about two cubits above the face of the earth. さて、主のもとから風が起り、海の向こうから、うずらを運んできて、これを宿営の近くに落した。その落ちた範囲は、宿営の周囲で、こちら側も、おおよそ一日の行程、あちら側も、おおよそ一日の行程、地面から高さおおよそ二キュビトであった。
11-32 And the people rose up all that day, and all the night, and all the next day, and gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp. そこで民は立ち上がってその日は終日、その夜は終夜、またその次の日も終日、うずらを集めたが、集める事の最も少ない者も、十ホメルほど集めた。彼らはみな、それを宿営の周囲に広げておいた。
11-33 While the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the anger of Jehovah was kindled against the people, and Jehovah smote the people with a very great plague. その肉がなお、彼らの歯の間にあって食べつくさないうちに、主は民にむかって怒りを発し、主は非常に激しい疫病をもって民を撃たれた。
11-34 And the name of that place was called Kibrothhattaavah, because there they buried the people that lusted. これによって、その所の名はキブロテ・ハッタワと呼ばれた。欲心を起した民を、そこに埋めたからである。
11-35 From Kibrothhattaavah the people journeyed unto Hazeroth; and they abode at Hazeroth. キブロテ・ハッタワから、民はハゼロテに進み、ハゼロテにとどまった。
