| 17-1 |
And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, |
主はモーセに言われた、 |
| 17-2 |
Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of them rods, one for each fathers’ house, of all their princes according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods: write thou every man’s name upon his rod. |
「イスラエルの人々に告げて、彼らのうちから、おのおのの父祖の家にしたがって、つえ一本ずつを取りなさい。すなわち、そのすべてのつかさたちから、父祖の家にしたがって、つえ十二本を取り、その人々の名を、おのおのそのつえに書きしるし、 |
| 17-3 |
And thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi; for there shall be one rod for each head of their fathers’ houses. |
レビのつえにはアロンの名を書きしるしなさい。父祖の家のかしらは、おのおののつえ一本を出すのだからである。 |
| 17-4 |
And thou shalt lay them up in the tent of meeting before the testimony, where I meet with you. |
そして、これらのつえを、わたしがあなたがたに会う会見の幕屋の中の、あかしの箱の前に置きなさい。 |
| 17-5 |
And it shall come to pass, that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you. |
わたしの選んだ人のつえには、芽が出るであろう。こうして、わたしはイスラエルの人々が、あなたがたにむかって、つぶやくのをやめさせるであろう」。 |

And Moses spake unto the children of Israel; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods. |
モーセが、このようにイスラエルの人々に語ったので、つかさたちはみな、その父祖の家にしたがって、おのおの、つえ一本ずつを彼に渡した。そのつえは合わせて十二本。アロンのつえも、そのつえのうちにあった。 |

And Moses laid up the rods before Jehovah in the tent of the testimony. |
モーセは、それらのつえを、あかしの幕屋の中の、主の前に置いた。 |
| 17-8 |
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses went into the tent of the testimony; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and put forth buds, and produced blossoms, and bare ripe almonds. |
その翌日、モーセが、あかしの幕屋にはいって見ると、レビの家のために出したアロンのつえは芽をふき、つぼみを出し、花が咲いて、あめんどうの実を結んでいた。 |

And Moses brought out all the rods from before Jehovah unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod. |
モーセがそれらのつえを、ことごとく主の前から、イスラエルのすべての人の所に持ち出したので、彼らは見て、おのおの自分のつえを取った。 |
| 17-10 |
And Jehovah said unto Moses, Put back the rod of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that thou mayest make an end of their murmurings against me, that they die not. |
主はモーセに言われた、「アロンのつえを、あかしの箱の前に持ち帰り、そこに保存して、そむく者どものために、しるしとしなさい。こうして、彼らのわたしに対するつぶやきをやめさせ、彼らの死ぬのをまぬかれさせなければならない」。 |

Thus did Moses: as Jehovah commanded him, so did he. |
モーセはそのようにして、主が彼に命じられたとおりに行った。 |
| 17-12 |
And the children of Israel spake unto Moses, saying, Behold, we perish, we are undone, we are all undone. |
イスラエルの人々は、モーセに言った、「ああ、わたしたちは死ぬ。破滅です、全滅です。 |
| 17-13 |
Every one that cometh near, that cometh near unto the tabernacle of Jehovah, dieth: shall we perish all of us? |
主の幕屋に近づく者が、みな死ぬのであれば、わたしたちは死に絶えるではありませんか」。 |
