| 23-1 |
And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams. |
バラムはバラクに言った、「わたしのために、ここに七つの祭壇を築き、七頭の雄牛と七頭の雄羊とを整えなさい」。 |
| 23-2 |
And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram. |
バラクはバラムの言ったとおりにした。そしてバラクとバラムとは、その祭壇ごとに雄牛一頭と雄羊一頭とをささげた。 |
| 23-3 |
And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt-offering, and I will go: peradventure Jehovah will come to meet me; and whatsoever he showeth me I will tell thee. And he went to a bare height. |
バラムはバラクに言った、「あなたは燔祭のかたわらに立っていてください。その間にわたしは行ってきます。主はたぶんわたしに会ってくださるでしょう。そして、主がわたしに示される事はなんでもあなたに告げましょう」。こうして彼は一つのはげ山に登った。 |

And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar. |
神がバラムに会われたので、バラムは神に言った、「わたしは七つの祭壇を設け、祭壇ごとに雄牛一頭と雄羊一頭とをささげました」。 |
| 23-5 |
And Jehovah put a word in Balaam’s mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak. |
主はバラムの口に言葉を授けて言われた、「バラクのもとに帰ってこう言いなさい」。 |
| 23-6 |
And he returned unto him, and, lo, he was standing by his burnt-offering, he, and all the princes of Moab. |
彼がバラクのもとに帰ってみると、バラクはモアブのすべてのつかさたちと共に燔祭のかたわらに立っていた。 |
| 23-7 |
And he took up his parable, and said, From Aram hath Balak brought me, The king of Moab from the mountains of the East: Come, curse me Jacob, And come, defy Israel. |
バラムはこの託宣を述べた。「バラクはわたしをアラムから招き寄せ、モアブの王はわたしを東の山から招き寄せて言う、『きてわたしのためにヤコブをのろえ、きてイスラエルをのろえ』と。 |
| 23-8 |
How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? And how shall I defy, whom Jehovah hath not defied? |
神ののろわない者を、わたしがどうしてのろえよう。主ののろわない者を、わたしがどうしてのろえよう。 |
| 23-9 |
For from the top of the rocks I see him, And from the hills I behold him:Lo, it is a people that dwelleth alone, And shall not be reckoned among the nations. |
岩の頂からながめ、丘の上から見たが、これはひとり離れて住む民、もろもろの国民のうちに並ぶものはない。 |
| 23-10 |
Who can count the dust of Jacob, Or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, And let my last end be like his! |
だれがヤコブの群衆を数え、イスラエルの無数の民を数え得よう。わたしは義人のように死に、わたしの終りは彼らの終りのようでありたい」。 |
| 23-11 |
And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether. |
そこでバラクはバラムに言った、「あなたはわたしに何をするのですか。わたしは敵をのろうために、あなたを招いたのに、あなたはかえって敵を祝福するばかりです」。 |
| 23-12 |
And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which Jehovah putteth in my mouth? |
バラムは答えた、「わたしは、主がわたしの口に授けられる事だけを語るように注意すべきではないでしょうか」。 |
| 23-13 |
And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them; thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence. |
バラクは彼に言った、「わたしと一緒にほかのところへ行って、そこから彼らをごらんください。あなたはただ彼らの一端を見るだけで、全体を見ることはできないでしょうが、そこからわたしのために彼らをのろってください」。 |
| 23-14 |
And he took him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar. |
そして彼はバラムを連れてゾピムの野に行き、ピスガの頂に登って、そこに七つの祭壇を築き、祭壇ごとに雄牛一頭と雄羊一頭とをささげた。 |
| 23-15 |
And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt-offering, while I meet Jehovah yonder. |
ときにはバラムはバラクに言った、「あなたはここで、燔祭のかたわらに立っていてください。わたしは向こうへ行って、主に伺いますから」。 |
| 23-16 |
And Jehovah met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus shalt thou speak. |
主はバラムに臨み、言葉を口に授けて言われた、「バラクのもとに帰ってこう言いなさい」。 |
| 23-17 |
And he came to him, and, lo, he was standing by his burnt-offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath Jehovah spoken? |
彼がバラクのところへ行って見ると、バラクは燔祭のかたわらに立ち、モアブのつかさたちも共にいた。バラクはバラムに言った、「主はなんと言われましたか」。 |
| 23-18 |
And he took up his parable, and said,Rise up, Balak, and hear;Hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor: |
そこでバラムはまたこの託宣を述べた。「バラクよ、立って聞け、チッポルの子よ、わたしに耳を傾けよ。 |
| 23-19 |
God is not a man, that he should lie,Neither the son of man, that he should repent:Hath he said, and will he not do it?Or hath he spoken, and will he not make it good? |
神は人のように偽ることはなく、また人の子のように悔いることもない。言ったことで、行わないことがあろうか、語ったことで、しとげないことがあろうか。 |
| 23-20 |
Behold, I have received commandment to bless:And he hath blessed, and I cannot reverse it.And he hath blessed, and I cannot reverse it. |
祝福せよとの命をわたしはうけた、すでに神が祝福されたものを、わたしは変えることができない。 |
| 23-21 |
He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob;Neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel:Jehovah his God is with him,And the shout of a king is among them. |
だれもヤコブのうちに災のあるのを見ない、またイスラエルのうちに悩みのあるのを見ない。彼らの神、主が共にいまし、王をたたえる声がその中に聞える。 |
| 23-22 |
God bringeth them forth out of Egypt;He hath as it were the strength of the wild-ox. |
神は彼らをエジプトから導き出された、彼らは野牛の角のようだ。 |
| 23-23 |
Surely there is no enchantment with Jacob;Neither is there any divination with Israel:Now shalt it be said of Jacob and of Israel,What hath God wrought! |
ヤコブには魔術がなく、イスラエルには占いがない。神がそのなすところを時に応じてヤコブに告げ、イスラエルに示されるからだ。 |
| 23-24 |
Behold, the people riseth up as a lioness,And as a lion doth he lift himself up:He shall not lie down until he eat of the prey,He shall not lie down until he eat of the prey,And drink the blood of the slain. |
見よ、この民は雌じしのように立ち上がり、雄じしのように身を起す。これはその獲物を食らい、その殺した者の血を飲むまでは身を横たえない」。 |
| 23-25 |
And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all. |
バラクはバラムに言った、「あなたは彼らをのろうことも祝福することも、やめてください」。 |
| 23-26 |
But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that Jehovah speaketh, that I must do? |
バラムは答えてバラクに言った、「主の言われることは、なんでもしなければならないと、わたしはあなたに告げませんでしたか」。 |
| 23-27 |
And Balak said unto Balaam, Come now, I will take thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence. |
バラクはバラムに言った、「どうぞ、おいでください。わたしはあなたをほかの所へお連れしましょう。神はあなたがそこからわたしのために彼らをのろうことを許されるかもしれません」。 |
| 23-28 |
And Balak took Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh down upon the desert. |
そしてバラクはバラムを連れて、荒野を見おろすペオルの頂に行った。 |

And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams. |
バラムはバラクに言った、「わたしのためにここに七つの祭壇を築き、雄牛七頭と、雄羊七頭とを整えなさい」。 |
