| 25-1 |
And Israel abode in Shittim; and the people began to play the harlot with the daughters of Moab: |
イスラエルはシッテムにとどまっていたが、民はモアブの娘たちと、みだらな事をし始めた。 |
| 25-2 |
for they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods; and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods. |
その娘たちが神々に犠牲をささげる時に民を招くと、民は一緒にそれを食べ、娘たちの神々を拝んだ。 |
| 25-3 |
And Israel joined himself unto Baal-peor: and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel. |
イスラエルはこうしてペオルのバアルにつきしたがったので、主はイスラエルにむかって怒りを発せられた。 |
| 25-4 |
And Jehovah said unto Moses, Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up unto Jehovah before the sun, that the fierce anger of Jehovah may turn away from Israel. |
そして主はモーセに言われた、「民の首領をことごとく捕え、日のあるうちにその人々を主の前で処刑しなさい。そうすれば主の怒りはイスラエルを離れるであろう」。 |

And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that have joined themselves unto Baal-peor. |
モーセはイスラエルのさばきびとたちにむかって言った、「あなたがたはおのおの、配下の者どもでペオルのバアルにつきしたがったものを殺しなさい」。 |

And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting. |
モーセとイスラエルの人々の全会衆とが会見の幕屋の入口で泣いていた時、彼らの目の前で、ひとりのイスラエルびとが、その兄弟たちの中に、ひとりのミデアンの女を連れてきた。 |

And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand; |
祭司アロンの子なるエレアザルの子ピネハスはこれを見て、会衆のうちから立ち上がり、やりを手に執り、 |

and he went after the man of Israel into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel. |
そのイスラエルの人の後を追って、奥の間に入り、そのイスラエルの人を突き、またその女の腹を突き通して、ふたりを殺した。こうして疫病がイスラエルの人々に及ぶのがやんだ。 |

And those that died by the plague were twenty and four thousand. |
しかし、その疫病で死んだ者は二万四千人であった。 |
| 25-10 |
And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, |
主はモーセに言われた、 |
| 25-11 |
Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy. |
「祭司アロンの子なるエレアザルの子ピネハスは自分のことのように、わたしの憤激をイスラエルの人々のうちに表わし、わたしの怒りをそのうちから取り去ったので、わたしは憤激して、イスラエルの人々を滅ぼすことをしなかった。 |
| 25-12 |
Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace: |
このゆえにあなたは言いなさい、『わたしは平和の契約を彼に授ける。 |
| 25-13 |
and it shall be unto him, and to his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel. |
これは彼とその後の子孫に永遠の祭司職の契約となるであろう。彼はその神のために熱心であって、イスラエルの人々のために罪のあがないをしたからである』と」。 |

Now the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers’ house among the Simeonites. |
ミデアンの女と共に殺されたイスラエルの人の名はジムリといい、サルの子で、シメオンびとのうちの一族のつかさであった。 |
| 25-15 |
And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head of the people of a fathers’ house in Midian. |
またその殺されたミデアンの女の名はコズビといい、ツルの娘であった。ツルはミデアンの民の一族のかしらであった。 |
| 25-16 |
And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, |
主はまたモーセに言われた、 |
| 25-17 |
Vex the Midianites, and smite them; |
「ミデアンびとを打ち悩ましなさい。 |
| 25-18 |
for they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor. |
彼らはたくらみをもって、あなたがたを悩まし、ペオルの事と、彼らの姉妹、ミデアンのつかさの娘コズビ、すなわちペオルの事により、疫病の起った日に殺された女の事とによって、あなたがたを惑わしたからである」。 |
