12-1 And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you. サムエルはイスラエルの人々に言った、「見よ、わたしは、あなたがたの言葉に聞き従って、あなたがたの上に王を立てた。
12-2 And now, behold, the king walketh before you; and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my youth unto this day. 見よ王は今、あなたがたの前に歩む。わたしは年老いて髪は白くなった。わたしの子らもあなたがたと共にいる。わたしは若い時から、きょうまで、あなたがたの前に歩んだ。
12-3 Here I am: witness against me before Jehovah, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I taken a ransom to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you. わたしはここにいる。主の前と、その油そそがれた者の前に、わたしを訴えよ。わたしが、だれの牛を取ったか。だれのろばを取ったか。だれを欺いたか。だれをしえたげたか。だれの手から、まいないを取って、自分の目をくらましたか。もしそのようなことがあれば、わたしはそれを、あなたがたに償おう」。
12-4 And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man’s hand. 彼らは言った、「あなたは、われわれを欺いたことも、しえたげたこともありません。また人の手から何も取ったことはありません」。
12-5 And he said unto them, Jehovah is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand. And they said, He is witness. サムエルは彼らに言った、「あなたがたが、わたしの手のうちに、なんの不正をも見いださないことを、主はあなたがたにあかしされる。その油そそがれた者も、きょうそれをあかしする」。彼らは言った、「あかしされます」。
12-6 And Samuel said unto the people, It is Jehovah that appointed Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt. サムエルは民に言った、「モーセとアロンを立てて、あなたがたの先祖をエジプトの地から導き出された主が証人です。
12-7 Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before Jehovah concerning all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which he did to you and to your fathers. それゆえ、あなたがたは今、立ちなさい。わたしは主が、あなたがたとあなたがたの先祖のために行われたすべての救のわざについて、主の前に、あなたがたと論じよう。
12-8 When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto Jehovah, then Jehovah sent Moses and Aaron, who brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them to dwell in this place. ヤコブがエジプトに行って、エジプトびとが、彼らを、しえたげた時、あなたがたの先祖は主に呼ばわったので、主はモーセとアロンをつかわされた。そこで彼らは、あなたがたの先祖をエジプトから導き出して、この所に住まわせた。
12-9 But they forgat Jehovah their God; and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab; and they fought against them. しかし、彼らがその神、主を忘れたので、主は彼らをハゾルの王ヤビンの軍の長シセラの手に渡し、またペリシテびとの手とモアブの王の手にわたされた。そこで彼らがイスラエルを攻めたので、
12-10 And they cried unto Jehovah, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and have served the Baalim and the Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee. 民は主に呼ばわって言った、『われわれは主を捨て、バアルとアシタロテに仕えて、罪を犯しました。今、われわれを敵の手から救い出してください。われわれはあなたに仕えます』。
12-11 And Jehovah sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side; and ye dwelt in safety. 主はエルバアルとバラクとエフタとサムエルをつかわして、あなたがたを周囲の敵の手から救い出されたので、あなたがたは安らかに住むことができた。
12-12 And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay, but a king shall reign over us; when Jehovah your God was your king. ところが、アンモンびとの王ナハシが攻めてくるのを見たとき、あなたがたの神、主があなたがたの王であるのに、あなたがたはわたしに、『いいえ、われわれを治める王がなければならない』と言った。
12-13 Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have asked for: and, behold, Jehovah hath set a king over you. それゆえ、今あなたがたの選んだ王、あなたがたが求めた王を見なさい。主はあなたがたの上に王を立てられた。
12-14 If ye will fear Jehovah, and serve him, and hearken unto his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, and both ye and also the king that reigneth over you be followers of Jehovah your God, well: もし、あなたがたが主を恐れ、主に仕えて、その声に聞き従い、主の戒めにそむかず、あなたがたも、あなたがたを治める王も共に、あなたがたの神、主に従うならば、それで良い。
12-15 but if ye will not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah, but rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then will the hand of Jehovah be against you, as it was against your fathers. しかし、もしあなたがたが主の声に聞き従わず、主の戒めにそむくならば、主の手は、あなたがたとあなたがたの王を攻めるであろう。
12-16 Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which Jehovah will do before your eyes. それゆえ、今、あなたがたは立って、主が、あなたがたの目の前で行われる、この大いなる事を見なさい。
12-17 Is it not wheat harvest to-day? I will call unto Jehovah, that he may send thunder and rain; and ye shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of Jehovah, in asking you a king. きょうは小麦刈の時ではないか。わたしは主に呼ばわるであろう。そのとき主は雷と雨を下して、あなたがたが王を求めて、主の前に犯した罪の大いなることを見させ、また知らせられるであろう」。
12-18 So Samuel called unto Jehovah; and Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel. そしてサムエルが主に呼ばわったので、主はその日、雷と雨を下された。民は皆ひじょうに主とサムエルとを恐れた。
12-19 And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto Jehovah thy God, that we die not; for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king. 民はみなサムエルに言った、「しもべらのために、あなたの神、主に祈って、われわれの死なないようにしてください。われわれは、もろもろの罪を犯した上に、また王を求めて、悪を加えました」。
12-20 And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not; ye have indeed done all this evil; yet turn not aside from following Jehovah, but serve Jehovah with all your heart: サムエルは民に言った、「恐れることはない。あなたがたは、このすべての悪をおこなった。しかし主に従うことをやめず、心をつくして主に仕えなさい。
12-21 and turn ye not aside; for then would ye go after vain things which cannot profit nor deliver, for they are vain. むなしい物に迷って行ってはならない。それは、あなたがたを助けることも救うこともできないむなしいものだからである。
12-22 For Jehovah will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake, because it hath pleased Jehovah to make you a people unto himself. 主は、その大いなる名のゆえに、その民を捨てられないであろう。主が、あなたがたを自分の民とすることを良しとされるからである。
12-23 Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Jehovah in ceasing to pray for you: but I will instruct you in the good and the right way. また、わたしは、あなたがたのために祈ることをやめて主に罪を犯すことは、けっしてしないであろう。わたしはまた良い、正しい道を、あなたがたに教えるであろう。
12-24 Only fear Jehovah, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider how great things he hath done for you. あなたがたは、ただ主を恐れ、心をつくして、誠実に主に仕えなければならない。そして主がどんなに大きいことをあなたがたのためにされたかを考えなければならない。
12-25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king. しかし、あなたがたが、なおも悪を行うならば、あなたがたも、あなたがたの王も、共に滅ぼされるであろう」。
