Saul was forty years old when he began to reign; and when he had reigned two years over Israel, |
サウルは三十歳で王の位につき、二年イスラエルを治めた。 |

Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel, whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in the mount of Beth-el, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent. |
さてサウルはイスラエルびと三千を選んだ。二千はサウルと共にミクマシ、およびベテルの山地におり、一千はヨナタンと共にベニヤミンのギベアにいた。サウルはその他の民を、おのおの、その天幕に帰らせた。 |
| 13-3 |
And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba: and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear. |
ヨナタンは、ゲバにあるペリシテびとの守備兵を敗った。ペリシテびとはそのことを聞いた。そこで、サウルは国中に、あまねく角笛を吹きならして言わせた、「ヘブルびとよ、聞け」。 |
| 13-4 |
And all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten the garrison of the Philistines, and also that Israel was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were gathered together after Saul to Gilgal. |
イスラエルの人は皆、サウルがペリシテびとの守備兵を敗ったこと、そしてイスラエルがペリシテびとに憎まれるようになったことを聞いた。こうして民は召されて、ギルガルのサウルのもとに集まった。 |

And the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea-shore in multitude: and they came up, and encamped in Michmash, eastward of Beth-aven. |
ペリシテびとはイスラエルと戦うために集まった。戦車三千、騎兵六千、民は浜べの砂のように多かった。彼らは上ってきて、ベテアベンの東のミクマシに陣を張った。 |
| 13-6 |
When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were distressed), then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in coverts, and in pits. |
イスラエルびとは、ひどく圧迫され、味方が危くなったのを見て、ほら穴に、縦穴に、岩に、墓に、ため池に身を隠した。 |
| 13-7 |
Now some of the Hebrews had gone over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; but as for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. |
また、あるヘブルびとはヨルダンを渡って、ガドとギレアデの地へ行った。しかしサウルはなおギルガルにいて、民はみな、ふるえながら彼に従った。 |

And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. |
サウルは、サムエルが定めたように、七日のあいだ待ったが、サムエルがギルガルにこなかったので、民は彼を離れて散って行った。 |
| 13-9 |
And Saul said, Bring hither the burnt-offering to me, and the peace-offerings. And he offered the burnt-offering. |
そこでサウルは言った、「燔祭と酬恩祭をわたしの所に持ってきなさい」。こうして彼は燔祭をささげた。 |
| 13-10 |
And it came to pass that, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt-offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. |
その燔祭をささげ終ると、サムエルがきた。サウルはあいさつをしようと、彼を迎えに出た。 |
| 13-11 |
And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines assembled themselves together at Michmash; |
その時サムエルは言った、「あなたは何をしたのですか」。サウルは言った、「民はわたしを離れて散って行き、あなたは定まった日のうちにこられないのに、ペリシテびとがミクマシに集まったのを見たので、 |
| 13-12 |
therefore said I, Now will the Philistines come down upon me to Gilgal, and I have not entreated the favor of Jehovah: I forced myself therefore, and offered the burnt-offering. |
わたしは、ペリシテびとが今にも、ギルガルに下ってきて、わたしを襲うかも知れないのに、わたしはまだ主の恵みを求めることをしていないと思い、やむを得ず燔祭をささげました」。 |
| 13-13 |
And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly; thou hast not kept the commandment of Jehovah thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would Jehovah have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. |
サムエルはサウルに言った、「あなたは愚かなことをした。あなたは、あなたの神、主の命じられた命令を守らなかった。もし守ったならば、主は今あなたの王国を長くイスラエルの上に確保されたであろう。 |
| 13-14 |
But now thy kingdom shall not continue: Jehovah hath sought him a man after his own heart, and Jehovah hath appointed him to be prince over his people, because thou hast not kept that which Jehovah commanded thee. |
しかし今は、あなたの王国は続かないであろう。主は自分の心にかなう人を求めて、その人に民の君となることを命じられた。あなたが主の命じられた事を守らなかったからである」。 |
| 13-15 |
And Samuel arose, and gat him up from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin.And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men. |
こうしてサムエルは立って、ギルガルからベニヤミンのギベアに上っていった。サウルは共にいる民を数えてみたが、おおよそ六百人あった。 |
| 13-16 |
And Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, abode in Geba of Benjamin: but the Philistines encamped in Michmash. |
サウルとその子ヨナタン、ならびに、共にいる民は、ベニヤミンのゲバにおり、ペリシテびとはミクマシに陣を張っていた。 |
| 13-17 |
And the spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned unto the way that leadeth to Ophrah, unto the land of Shual; |
そしてペリシテびとの陣から三つの部隊にわかれた略奪隊が出てきて、一部隊はオフラの方に向かって、シュアルの地に行き、 |
| 13-18 |
and another company turned the way to Beth-horon; and another company turned the way of the border that looketh down upon the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness. |
一部隊はベテホロンの方に向かい、一部隊は荒野の方のゼボイムの谷を見おろす境の方に向かった。 |
| 13-19 |
Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel; for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears: |
そのころ、イスラエルの地にはどこにも鉄工がいなかった。ペリシテびとが「ヘブルびとはつるぎも、やりも造ってはならない」と言ったからである。 |
| 13-20 |
but all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock; |
ただしイスラエルの人は皆、そのすきざき、くわ、おの、かまに刃をつけるときは、ペリシテびとの所へ下って行った。 |
| 13-21 |
yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to set the goads. |
すきざきと、くわのための料金は一ピムであり、おのに刃をつけるのと、とげのあるむちを直すのは三分の一シケルであった。 1 |
| 13-22 |
So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found. |
それでこの戦いの日には、サウルおよびヨナタンと共にいた民の手には、つるぎもやりもなく、ただサウルとその子ヨナタンとがそれを持っていた。 |
| 13-23 |
And the garrison of the Philistines went out unto the pass of Michmash. |
ペリシテびとの先陣はミクマシの渡りに進み出た。 |
