Now the Philistines had taken the ark of God, and they brought it from Eben-ezer unto Ashdod. |
ペリシテびとは神の箱をぶんどって、エベネゼルからアシドドに運んできた。 |

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. |
そしてペリシテびとはその神の箱を取ってダゴンの宮に運びこみ、ダゴンのかたわらに置いた。 |

nd when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. |
アシドドの人々が、次の日、早く起きて見ると、ダゴンが主の箱の前に、うつむきに地に倒れていたので、彼らはダゴンを起して、それをもとの所に置いた。 |

And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands lay cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. |
その次の朝また早く起きて見ると、ダゴンはまた、主の箱の前に、うつむきに地に倒れていた。そしてダゴンの頭と両手とは切れて離れ、しきいの上にあり、ダゴンはただ胴体だけとなっていた。 |

Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod, unto this day. |
それゆえダゴンの祭司たちやダゴンの宮にはいる人々は、だれも今日にいたるまで、アシドドのダゴンのしきいを踏まない。 |

But the hand of Jehovah was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with tumors, even Ashdod and the borders thereof. |
そして主の手はアシドドびとの上にきびしく臨み、主は腫物をもってアシドドとその領域の人々を恐れさせ、また悩まされた。 |

And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us; for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god. |
アシドドの人々は、このありさまを見て言った、「イスラエルの神の箱を、われわれの所に、とどめ置いてはならない。その神の手が、われわれと、われわれの神ダゴンの上にきびしく臨むからである」。 |

They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel thither. |
そこで彼らは人をつかわして、ペリシテびとの君たちを集めて言った、「イスラエルの神の箱をどうしましょう」。彼らは言った、「イスラエルの神の箱はガテに移そう」。人々はイスラエルの神の箱をそこに移した。 |

And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of Jehovah was against the city with a very great discomfiture: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great; and tumors brake out upon them. |
彼らがそれを移すと、主の手がその町に臨み、非常な騒ぎが起った。そして老若を問わず町の人々を撃たれたので、彼らの身に腫物ができた。 |

So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people. |
そこで人々は神の箱をエクロンに送ったが、神の箱がエクロンに着いた時、エクロンの人々は叫んで言った、「彼らがイスラエルの神の箱をわれわれの所に移したのは、われわれと民を滅ぼすためである」。 |

They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to its own place, that is slay us not, and our people. For there was a deadly discomfiture throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there. |
そこで彼らは人をつかわして、ペリシテびとの君たちをみな集めて言った、「イスラエルの神の箱を送り出して、もとの所に返し、われわれと民を滅ぼすことのないようにしよう」。恐ろしい騒ぎが町中に起っていたからである。そこには神の手が非常にきびしく臨んでいたので、 |

And the men that died not were smitten with the tumors; and the cry of the city went up to heaven. |
死なない人は腫物をもって撃たれ、町の叫びは天に達した。 |
