| 7-1 |
And the men of Kiriath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of Jehovah, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of Jehovah. |
キリアテ・ヤリムの人々は、きて、主の箱を携え上り、丘の上のアビナダブの家に持ってきて、その子エレアザルを聖別して、主の箱を守らせた。 |

And it came to pass, from the day that the ark abode in Kiriath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after Jehovah. |
その箱は久しくキリアテ・ヤリムにとどまって、二十年を経た。イスラエルの全家は主を慕って嘆いた。 |
| 7-3 |
And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto Jehovah with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts unto Jehovah, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines. |
その時サムエルはイスラエルの全家に告げていった、「もし、あなたがたが一心に主に立ち返るのであれば、ほかの神々とアシタロテを、あなたがたのうちから捨て去り、心を主に向け、主にのみ仕えなければならない。そうすれば、主はあなたがたをペリシテびとの手から救い出されるであろう」。 |

Then the children of Israel did put away the Baalim and the Ashtaroth, and served Jehovah only. |
そこでイスラエルの人々はバアルとアシタロテを捨て去り、ただ主にのみ仕えた。 |
| 7-5 |
And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray for you unto Jehovah. |
サムエルはまた言った、「イスラエルびとを、ことごとくミヅパに集めなさい。わたしはあなたがたのために主に祈りましょう」。 |
| 7-6 |
And they gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Jehovah, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against Jehovah. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah. |
人々はミヅパに集まり、水をくんでそれを主の前に注ぎ、その日、断食してその所で言った、「われわれは主に対して罪を犯した」。サムエルはミヅパでイスラエルの人々をさばいた。 |

And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines. |
イスラエルの人々のミヅパに集まったことがペリシテびとに聞えたので、ペリシテびとの君たちは、イスラエルに攻め上ってきた。イスラエルの人々はそれを聞いて、ペリシテびとを恐れた。 |
| 7-8 |
And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto Jehovah our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines. |
そしてイスラエルの人々はサムエルに言った、「われわれのため、われわれの神、主に叫ぶことを、やめないでください。そうすれば主がペリシテびとの手からわれわれを救い出されるでしょう」。 |

And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt-offering unto Jehovah: and Samuel cried unto Jehovah for Israel; and Jehovah answered him. |
そこでサムエルは乳を飲む小羊一頭をとり、これを全き燔祭として主にささげた。そしてサムエルはイスラエルのために主に叫んだので、主はこれに答えられた。 |

And as Samuel was offering up the burnt-offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel; but Jehovah thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten down before Israel. |
サムエルが燔祭をささげていた時、ペリシテびとはイスラエルと戦おうとして近づいてきた。しかし主はその日、大いなる雷をペリシテびとの上にとどろかせて、彼らを乱されたので、彼らはイスラエルびとの前に敗れて逃げた。 |
| 7-11 |
And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Beth-car. |
イスラエルの人々はミヅパを出てペリシテびとを追い、これを撃って、ベテカルの下まで行った。 |
| 7-12 |
Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying, Hitherto hath Jehovah helped us. |
その時サムエルは一つの石をとってミヅパとエシャナの間にすえ、「主は今に至るまでわれわれを助けられた」と言って、その名をエベネゼルと名づけた。 |
| 7-13 |
So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more within the border of Israel: and the hand of Jehovah was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel. |
こうしてペリシテびとは征服され、ふたたびイスラエルの領地に、はいらなかった。サムエルの一生の間、主の手が、ペリシテびとを防いだ。 |
| 7-14 |
And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the border thereof did Israel deliver out of the hand of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites. |
ペリシテびとがイスラエルから取った町々は、エクロンからガテまで、イスラエルにかえり、イスラエルはその周囲の地をもペリシテびとの手から取りかえした。またイスラエルとアモリびととの間には平和があった。 |
| 7-15 |
And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life. |
サムエルは一生の間イスラエルをさばいた。 |
| 7-16 |
And he went from year to year in circuit to Beth-el and Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places. |
年ごとにサムエルはベテルとギルガル、およびミヅパを巡って、その所々でイスラエルをさばき、 |
| 7-17 |
And his return was to Ramah, for there was his house; and there he judged Israel: and he built there an altar unto Jehovah. |
ラマに帰った。そこに彼の家があったからである。その所でも彼はイスラエルをさばき、またそこで主に祭壇を築いた。 |
