| 21-1 |
And there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David sought the face of Jehovah. And Jehovah said, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put to death the Gibeonites. |
ダビデの世に、年また年と三年、ききんがあったので、ダビデが主に尋ねたところ、主は言われた、「サウルとその家とに、血を流した罪がある。それはかつて彼がギベオンびとを殺したためである」。 |

And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah); |
そこで王はギベオンびとを召しよせた。ギベオンびとはイスラエルの子孫ではなく、アモリびとの残りであって、イスラエルの人々は彼らと誓いを立てて、その命を助けた。ところがサウルはイスラエルとユダの人々のために熱心であったので、彼らを殺そうとしたのである。 |

and David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of Jehovah? |
それでダビデはギベオンびとに言った、「わたしはあなたがたのために、何をすればよいのですか。どんな償いをすれば、あなたがたは主の嗣業を祝福するのですか」。 |

And the Gibeonites said unto him, It is no matter of silver or gold between us and Saul, or his house; neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you. |
ギベオンびとは彼に言った、「これはわれわれと、サウルまたはその家との間の金銀の問題ではありません。またイスラエルのうちのひとりでも、われわれが殺そうというのでもありません」。ダビデは言った、「わたしがあなたがたのために何をすればよいと言うのですか」。 |

And they said unto the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us, that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel, |
かれらは王に言った、「われわれを滅ぼした人、われわれを滅ぼしてイスラエルの領域のどこにもおらせないようにと、たくらんだ人、 |
| 21-6 |
let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto Jehovah in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah. And the king said, I will give them. |
その人の子孫七人を引き渡してください。われわれは主の山にあるギベオンで、彼らを主の前に木にかけましょう」。王は言った、「引き渡しましょう」。 |
| 21-7 |
But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Jehovah’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul. |
しかし王はサウルの子ヨナタンの子であるメピボセテを惜しんだ。彼らの間、すなわちダビデとサウルの子ヨナタンとの間に、主をさして立てた誓いがあったからである。 |

But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she bare to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite: |
王はアヤの娘リヅパがサウルに産んだふたりの子アルモニとメピボセテ、およびサウルの娘メラブがメホラびとバルジライの子アデリエルに産んだ五人の子を取って、 |
| 21-9 |
And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the mountain before Jehovah, and they fell all seven together. And they were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest. |
彼らをギベオンびとの手に引き渡したので、ギベオンびとは彼らを山で主の前に木にかけた。彼ら七人は共に倒れた。彼らは刈入れの初めの日、すなわち大麦刈りの初めに殺された。 |
| 21-10 |
And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water was poured upon them from heaven; and she suffered neither the birds of the heavens to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night. |
アヤの娘リヅパは荒布をとって、それを自分のために岩の上に敷き、刈入れの初めから、その人々の死体の上に天から雨が降るまで、昼は空の鳥が死体の上にこないようにし、夜は野の獣を近寄らせなかった。 |

And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done. |
アヤの娘でサウルのめかけであったリヅパのしたことがダビデに聞えたので、 |
| 21-12 |
And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh-gilead, who had stolen them from the street of Beth-shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, in the day that the Philistines slew Saul in Gilboa; |
ダビデは行ってサウルの骨とその子ヨナタンの骨を、ヤベシギレアデの人々の所から取ってきた。これはペリシテびとがサウルをギルボアで殺した日に、木にかけたベテシャンの広場から、彼らが盗んでいたものである。 |
| 21-13 |
and he brought up from thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son: and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged. |
ダビデはそこからサウルの骨と、その子ヨナタンの骨を携えて上った。また人々はそのかけられた者どもの骨を集めた。 |
| 21-14 |
And they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was entreated for the land. |
こうして彼らはサウルとその子ヨナタンの骨を、ベニヤミンの地のゼラにあるその父キシの墓に葬り、すべて王の命じたようにした。この後、神はその地のために、祈を聞かれた。 |
| 21-15 |
And the Philistines had war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines. And David waxed faint; |
ペリシテびとはまたイスラエルと戦争をした。ダビデはその家来たちと共に下ってペリシテびとと戦ったが、ダビデは疲れていた。 |
| 21-16 |
and Ishbibenob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David. |
時にイシビベノブはダビデを殺そうと思った。イシビベノブは巨人の子孫で、そのやりは青銅で重さ三百シケルあり、彼は新しいつるぎを帯びていた。 |
| 21-17 |
But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succored him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the lamp of Israel. |
しかしゼルヤの子アビシャイはダビデを助けて、そのペリシテびとを撃ち殺した。そこでダビデの従者たちは彼に誓って言った、「あなたはわれわれと共に、重ねて戦争に出てはなりません。さもないと、あなたはイスラエルのともし火を消すでしょう」。 |
| 21-18 |
And it came to pass after this, that there was again war with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Saph, who was of the sons of the giant. |
この後、再びゴブでペリシテびととの戦いがあった。時にホシャびとシベカイは巨人の子孫のひとりサフを殺した。 |

And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim the Beth-lehemite slew Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam. |
ここにまたゴブで、ペリシテびととの戦いがあったが、そこではベツレヘムびとヤレオレギムの子エルハナンは、ガテびとゴリアテを殺した。そのやりの柄は機の巻棒のようであった。 |
| 21-20 |
And there was again war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant. |
またガテで再び戦いがあったが、そこにひとりの背の高い人があり、その手の指と足の指は六本ずつで、その数は合わせて二十四本であった。彼もまた巨人から生れた者であった。 |
| 21-21 |
And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David’s brother, slew him. |
彼はイスラエルをののしったので、ダビデの兄弟シメアの子ヨナタンが彼を殺した。 |
| 21-22 |
These four were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants. |
これらの四人はガテで巨人から生れた者であったが、ダビデの手とその家来たちの手に倒れた。 |
